HTC kills Beautiful Widgets app for Android
Anyone who has used an HTC smartphone, either with TouchFLO 3D or SenseUI, would agree they love the combination date/time/weather widget found on the home screen. For the rest of us who don't have an HTC Android device, there has been Beautiful Widgets, which is a $1.50 downloadable app from the Android Market that looks and acts pretty close, perhaps too close, to the HTC version. We found out today that the company who makes Beautiful Widgets, LevelUp Studio, was sent a Cease and Desist letter from HTC, thus forcing them to stop selling their app. Because of this, it has now been removed from the Android Market. However, if you already have Beautiful Widgets installed on your Android device, you can back it up by using Astro File Manager (which can also be downloaded). Just run Astro, press your phone's Menu key, select Tools and Application Manager/Backup on the screen. Then scroll down the list and place a check-mark next to Beautiful Widgets and select Backup. This will save the program as an .apk file to the SDcard/backups/apps directory. We hope this is not the end of Beautiful Widgets, but in the mean time we can all say "Booo" to HTC.

I say HTC should just upload the widget onto the market place so people can still have it. That way they don't lose profit or have any copyright issues.

actually I read that HTC is working on their own version in widget form for non-HTC devices ... Just a rumor right now but the article is on androidcentral.com

Why would HTC do that? It would give android customers one less incentive to by an HTC produced device. The sale of an Android widget wouldn't suffice either.
