HTC confirms that Gingerbread is coming to the HTC ThunderBolt and Droid Incredible in September

Seeing that today is the last day of August, it means that there is plenty to look forward to next month for anyone out there sporting an HTC ThunderBolt or Droid Incredible – that’s because the tandem are going to get Gingerbread finally...

Well thats good and well but ill believe it when i see it. Given HTC and Verizons track record for updates im gonna say that the Gingerbread update will be out the 1st week of October.

Blame HTC if anything. Verizon has very little to do with manufacturers releasing updates for their handsets. Also, what track record does HTC have in delaying upgrades before the t-bolt? none. The Incredible is well over a year old now, it wasn't even supposed to get Gingerbread. I am as upset as anyone that the Thunderbolt hasn't gotten official gingerbread yet, but let's be real here HTC has a good track record over all for updates.

To say verizon cant delay an update is a little bold. Unless you work THAT deep inside the V, but i doubt you do.
Whos to say VZW isnt adding their own features to the update. We all know VZW loves bloatware, and updates have been known to push un-removeable apps to phones.
Even though not ideal, i believe the service provider could find many different reasons to delay and update.
On the flip side, I also believe if VZW wanted it enough, it could push a company to make an update for a device it wasnt planning on.
VZW holds alot of money, so it holds alot of power

G-Reg is completely right in regards to the updates. We all know that Verizon loves to lock out, cripple features and load the phones with crap we dont want or need.
Beatlesfan i think you took my comment out of context. HTC has an excellent track record in regards to updating there unlocked phones but when it comes to Verizon phones i think they can do better.

I guess you're kind of right there. But other than old windows 6 phones, how many phones has HTC outted on VZW? The original Inc got froyo in a decenctly timely fashion and the Inc 2 got gingerbread in a very timely fashion.

Every HTC Android device has been screwed over.
The Eris- didnt get Froyo because the hardware could'nt support it which we know is BS.
The Incredible- didnt get Froyo for until in August....4 months after launch. We were told that it wouldnt get Gingerbread but it gets Gingerbread MONTHS later!
The Incredible 2- Though it received Gingerbread relatively quickly it should have launched that way in the first place.
Thunderbolt- Gingerbread was shown at the end of 2010 on the Nexus S and all most 5 months later we have'nt received an update. The EVO 4G and the Thunderbolt are identical and yet the EVO which is 14 months old has Gingerbread and the ability to delete most bloatware.
Now in regards to my statement of the update coming out in October. Im only saying that based on the last update which was scheduled for sometime in Q2 but it didnt come out till July. I hope i am wrong : )

It is a nice upgrade to the OS. Apple likes it, too.

Apple does update all of their devices, but they also don't give some of the new features to older devices. The iPhone 3G is extremely slow with iOS 4, even without wallpapers and multitasking.

Well it looks like I'll see how my incredible performs with gingerbread while I wait for the Prime and the Vigor, that'll make the wait less painful, lol

IMHO the incredible is one of the best phones Verizon has ever had. There are only a few reasons I got rid of it. Primarily is that I got so annoyed with texting on that tiny screen (how to iPhone users do it?). Also, my girlfriend wanted a smartphone, I had an upgrade and wanted to test the 4G waters, so I gave her my incredible and am now rocking the tbolt. I love this phone. HTC is the best manufacturer of phones from a hardware aspect and sense is the least painful UI. The Prime and the Vigor are going to be amazing phones and for once I take Samsung over HTC in this circumstance. Too bad I don't have another upgrade until January.

The thunderbolt is one of the s**ttiest phones Verizon ever got, with some of the most unbearable issues. (power cycling, intermittent loss of data connection, sms going to random contacts, etc...). The incredible has its own set of trademark issues that have yet to be resolved even a year after its release (power cycling, freezing, contacts erasing out of nowhere, factory resetting on its own, etc...). But then again, that must be an extremely sought after feature for Android users as Motorola phones would be doing those things after a number of improvements...

That's funny! My wife has had the Incredible since it first came out and she's never had any problems with hers. Maybe it like every other phone, there will always be a few bad ones.

Looks like you've had very bad luck man, my incredible works perfect heck I'm not even sure I need a new phone! actually I want a new phone just because I wanna taste ICS, lol

This is what happens when people enjoy complaining a little to much.
I to have the incredible and it has yet to fail due to its own nature. I have caused glitches by running some questionable apps, apps that didnt agree with htc sence, etc, but that i understand is user error.
Kinda strang, but with android having that human error possibility, i have yet to see someone else admit they could have casued their reason for b!tchingit..... interesting

That's wierd. I had an incredible and I am currently rollin with the TBolt. I've never had any of the problems that were talked about above. I love both of these phones. I can't wiat for the updates! Boo Ya!!!
