HTC acquires S3 graphics for 300 million

The ever-popular Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has made a move to acquire full ownership of S3 Graphics from the visualizations specialist’s parent company VIA and an investment firm for a total sum of 300 million…

Not sure if it is good for consumers. Definitely good for HTC. Now, it depends - if they increase prices of their handsets to cover the 300 million, it's not good for customers. But they can get some patent money from others, possibly?

Dont know anything about this company. The gpu they use now in their phones is based on AMD. If it can be better than that than it can only be a good thing for HTC.

The gpu in HTC phones seem to come up a lil short vs. the competition.

i hope they know what they did. S3 is history of pc market. But only history.Question is if they are able to deliver htc knowledge which may be usable on portable device market (maybe some patents).
