HTC Vigor to be the HTC ThunderBolt 2 while the Samsung DROID Prime replaces the Droid Charge

A Best Buy employee says that a Verizon executive handed over a document listing a number of handsets coming soon to Verizon; some of the list was expected like the Samsung Stratosphere replacing the Samsung Fascinate, but others are surprising...

I'll have to decide between these two guys, but I still feel the Prime will be my next phone, I don't think you can go wrong with either one

I am literally sickened with the decision to make with both of these. But hey think of it this way... you know with the hardware the VIGOR has it could be rooted and rom'd to run Ice cream sandwhich i'll bet. Which is all the Prime has going it does not.....

Nah, the Prime will have an arguably better screen, plus the OMAP processor will perform significantly better than its Qualcomm counterpart.

ehh ill believe it when i see it.. verizon doesn't have a great reputation on quickly spitting out phones cough. bionic. cough.. and doesn't even get the top of the line phones anyways. cough evo 4g/sensation. cough....

Verizon wasn't the one that held the Bionic back. Motorola said they delayed it to make some changes to it. Instead of the original Bionic shown at CES, Motorola released a renamed Targa.
How much more top of the line can you get? Dual core, LTE, amount of RAM, up-to-date OS and others.
Evo 4G and Thunderbolt are pretty much the same.

this is true.. the Etna original handset that was to be the Bionic had Critical issues that ended up having the device scrapped.. the other the Targa was a work in progress already going to be released this summer under a different name took on the Bionics name and was finally finished. POOF the Bionic has arrived.. but all this was under Motorollas hood not verizon.. so now with these new devices coming out it will be on par with the other top of the line devices.. YAY i just hope the vigor doesnt have the same issues as the TB did when first released.

Put me down for the HTC Vigor! I like the Nexus phones, but I have never been a fan of anything Samsung makes.

Look @ it this way...samsung uses the best parts, but there software sucks, so the Prime would have the best everything without samsung's crappy touchwiz

My only issue with the Prime is going to be the Virtual buttons... I really dont like the notification on the bottom nor do i want it that congested I rather have the android buttons on the Device like they have been.. not in the os.. HTC Vigor as the Thunderbolt 2.. hmmm rather it be the storm or Thunder Storm.. but what ever.. I have high expectations out of both phones...
I am super excited to replace my Personal use phone the LG Ally.. been running custom roms to boost the performance but I really want something that can out of the box run everything i need.
My work phone is currently the Droid X.. and while it gets the job done and all that.. i rather have some power at home to play with when i want it.. LTE connectivity will be nice in form of the phone instead of the modem.. and i can just use my phone as the modem after i get one.
13. Goldeneye posted on 13 Sep 2011, 03:20 1 0
Well I rather have those buttons on the main screen so those ever growing screens fit in a decently sized device, don't get me wrong I like android buttons but since Androids aren't getting any smaller is the way to go I believe

yea i am going either with the HTC Vigor Or the Prime.. Vigor sounds better the Thunderbolt 2 though for sure
7. Thump3rDX17 posted on 13 Sep 2011, 01:57 2 1
i don't believe any of this. the Vigor obviously looks like a Droid branded phone, there's nothing about it's appearance that ties it to the Thunderbolt in the slightest and the Prime taking the place of the Charge seems unlikely too because a stock Android device isn't likely to take the place of any of Samsung's TW devices. the Prime will be the successor to the Nexus S. the name is just a technicality so the phone won't have to be a completely pure Google experience which Verizon is opposed to.
9. vantenkiest posted on 13 Sep 2011, 02:01 0 1
I see what you are saying about the Prime.. and the Vigor looks more like it belongs to the Incredible Family but then again this is all possible but i think the notification of this is bs..
16. roldefol posted on 13 Sep 2011, 07:31 1 0
The Vigor that leaked last month definitely looks like a Droid Incredible relative, not a Thunderbolt relative. Of course the naming scheme is up to Verizon... at this point which name has more resonance with buyers? The Incredible name is legend, but they kind of squandered it on the mundane Incredible 2. Are the Thunderbolt's bugs and battery life issues enough to retire the name?

What about reports that the Droid Prime will not be a pure ICS device and might actually have a TouchWiz overlay? They put TouchWiz on the Galaxy Tab 10, and even though it's not as invasive as it is on Galaxy phones, it's still not stock Honeycomb.
If that's true, it WILL be a Charge successor, and the Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus will be the "pure" ICS device and Nexus successor.
23. Thump3rDX17 posted on 13 Sep 2011, 13:19 2 0
the Galaxy Tab wasn't the device that showcased Android 3.0 Honeycomb, it was the XOOM, they weren't obligated to keeping a stock experience on the Tab. the Prime however wherever it goes will still be the first ICS to the market. they can't launch a new version of Android skinned that would cause too much confusion. like i said the name will just be a technicality so Verizon can lock up Tethering and probably get a few of their "popular" apps on it. the reports of it having TW JUST because it''s going to Verizon is greatly exaggerated. Verizon has had 2 Google favorites like the Nexus in the form of the OG Droid and the XOOM also it would simply take Samsung too long to skin it. the SDK for ICS won't be available til like next month. Quad-Core devices are a quarter away from launching, it's in everybody's best interest to get this out stock and for the Holidays.
25. roldefol posted on 13 Sep 2011, 14:46 0 0
I don't know how much the phone-buying public knows or cares about stock vs. skinned Android, so I'm not sure about the "everyone's best interest" part. I'd like to see a stock device on Verizon, I just have a hard time believing it after 2 years. But your point about the SDK and development time is well-taken.

I knew it... there is no way any of these two can beat the specs of the GS2 and I bet neither of them will be as smooth and benchmark as high. Where is that idiot that said the prime was running 1.8ghz and will make the gs2 TREMBLE?
11. yeatruebut (unregistered) posted on 13 Sep 2011, 02:28 3 1
HTC Vigor and The Prime can and should beat the GS2..
12. Thump3rDX17 posted on 13 Sep 2011, 02:50 2 0
only because they'll have LTE, in terms of raw power though the Galaxy S II will not be defeated by their likes. the Prime will come the closest though.

you have to be an idiot to think that letter real you can see its a fake LOL so funny you can see someone made it the Samsung is I nice phone but the thunderbolt 2 will have more features go on youtube and go to the c e s conference of 2011 and look it up the thunderblot 2 is going to be the best phone of the year the Samsung is just gonna have a nice brighter screen but that's about it..if you wanna phone that's packed with features Go with the h t c thunderbolt 2 they got dual core processors that means they all can be benchmark about the same

So is an Exynos faster than a dual-core TI OMAP 4460?

I'm pretty sure if Verizon was going to give a clue on what was being released it would look a little more professional than the document shown. I also highly doubt that Best Buy would just happen to be the first to release such information...how about all of us agents?
24. Matt (unregistered) posted on 13 Sep 2011, 14:42 0 0
Does anyone know how the batteries are going to be? I have the Droid Incredible now and at 1450 mah, the battery is horrible. I am reluctant to buy anything from HTC since that is what I have now and all I do is have problem with the battery, with the low disk space issue on my incredible, as well as the phone automatically resetting. Not sure I should go with another HTC device.

Notice the misspelling of Stratosphere in the list...probably a document made up as a hoax. Doesn't matter, what will be will be and we'll all know for sure this month.
