HTC U shows up on benchmark site dressed for flagship weather

It was just yesterday when we passed along a rumor from serial tipster Evan Blass about HTC's next flagship phone. Despite using the code name Ocean, there doesn't seem to be anything fishy about the HTC U, which Blass has pegged for a mid-to-late April unveiling, and a launch in early May. While the device happened to be discovered on the AnTuTu web site this morning as the HTC CBP; the specs listed match the ones we were told about yesterday for the HTC U.

The HTC CBP is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. That means it will contain an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU. 4GB of RAM is inside along with 64GB of native storage. While the screen size is not listed, the display will sport a 1440 x 2560 (QHD) resolution. Blass' tweet yesterday said to expect a 5.5-inch screen on the device. The Edge Sense  gesture based system will be found along the left and right edge of the screen, and HTC's Sense 9 UI will be on board.

The AnTuTu posting also confirmed the specs discussed by Blass for the HTC U's back and front-facing cameras. Those figures weigh in at 12MP and 16MP, respectively.  And the phone has Android 7.1.1 pre-installed, according to AnTuTu. As we pointed out on Tuesday, the HTC U would be the third phone in the manufacturer's "U series" following the 5.7-inch HTC U Ultra phablet and the 5.2-inch HTC U Play.
