HTC Thunderbolt's new ad shows phone, no release date
0. phoneArena posted on 03 Mar 2011, 18:51
The MIA HTC Thunderbolt was the subject of a new ad by HTC; while the ad did mention the handset's 4G connectivity, what was more important was what the ad lacked-namely, a launch date for the handset...

The more I think about it the less I want this phone. I can no longer deal with the terrible battery life, having to root a phone, all the force closes and constant reboots. Maybe I am just pissed off at my current phone (Droid Incredible), but I want to love the Thunderbolt and I'm losing interest. Especially if the iPhone 5 is going to have the A5 dual core processor like iPad 2, and ONLY if the iPhone has LTE, otherwise it's not worth it.

My loss of interest has nothing to do with the "delay" of the Thunderbolt, though. I get annoyed seeing people complain about the release date being "pushed back" on Phone Arena, Phone Dog, and other sites. The only reason it ever had the rumored release dates was because of websites like this. Neither Verizon nor HTC ever announced a release date, and I wish people would stop buying into the silly predictions based off of little to no solid evidence of release dates. Maybe I have just witnessed too many times when a predicted release date was one thing (predicted by websites like this) and the actual release date is no where near that, but I don't believe anything until I hear it from either the manufacture or the carrier or both.

It isnt just "websites like this" that have reported the dates. I work for an indirect Verizon retailer and we kept getting emails about the date it was coming and then a week later we get a new email stating how it was delayed and pushed back from that date so it has had dates and it does keep getting pushed back. It isnt just phone sites making it up or latching on to rumors alone.

That's humorous, I also work for an indirect agent and we got no such emails. So your company may rely on the rumors. I highly doubt a Verizon wireless employee of any sort (not indirect but actual Verizon) would spread a rumor about when a phone was out.

Fair question, that I've been contemplating, that I never thought I would....... Should I get the Verizon iPhone 4 because I'm impatient for the T-bolt, off my 2 year contract for 2 months now, wanting a new phone?
Only thing holding me back is the few second web page loading on 4G LTE, versus 15-30 second loading on 3g..... Maybe not the same as going from Dial-up to Broadband, but will feel like that....!
11/02/htc-thunderbolt-bandwidth-tests-show-the-speed-of-verizon%E2%80%99s-4g-lte-network/ .......this looks nice

It seems to me like the iPhone 5 will have a dual core processor for sure. Lte and a bigger screen along with that would make it perfect

still no flash and too restrictive is the iphone. silly little things like all the icons go on screen in order from top to bottom, cant put one icon on the top of the home screen and one on the bottom. they all auto cluster. i hate stuff like that.
but the no flash is the big thing. so no, i wouldnt, and im not, getting an iPOS

COULD IT BE that Verizon and Apple dont want to see a MASS return of the iphone that the Thunderbolt is being "delayed"....???
13. CRICKETownz posted on 03 Mar 2011, 20:48 1 1
haven't the masses already purchased the iPhone? it came out on feb. 10th...the exchange period is only 14 days. its March now. i'd rather have them delay the release to work the kinks out rather than be under the pressure to release a half-baked phone with an update 2 weeks later.

Can you just quit being so damn interested in this phone???!!! It just makes me sick! I'll never let Verizon release it!

I still think your a tool Steve, but dont worry, we all know your iphone is far better than these Android turds that are pumped out on a daily basis.

Totally lost interest in this phone. Had considered it once, but better things soon on the way, besides the damn thing is too large.

Moto Bionic.... Thunderbolt is outdated before its ever even released
17. beatlesfan posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:00 7 0
How is it outdated? It has more RAM than the Bionic, so is the Bionic also outdated? Dual core means nothing to me on a smartphone running gingerbread as the OS doesn't utilize the potential of the dual cores.
19. ftfunguy (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:12 2 0
youre right... they just put the dual core in there so it sounds cool when you're talking about it.... I'm not saying its not a good phone, It's just like any other piece of technology nowadays... By the time its being released, they're already talking about something bigger and better. 256 mb more RAM..... yeah and? moto xoom with dual core on honeycomb is legit! I pulled one from the drawer and set it up... great.... to each their own.... I prefer waiting for the Bionic. Do you use a lot of media on your phone? Are you set up in an LTE area?
20. beatlesfan posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:18 1 1
Dual core on honeycomb is different than on gingerbread or froyo. The xoom is pretty sweet, I will admit, and would consider buying it if there were a wifi only model less than 600. I understand and respect the dual core in the Bionic as it future proofs the phone in case a future version of Android OS is more dual core friendly. And to answer both of your questions yes. I don't use that much media anymore because I am tired of slow 3g data and terrible battery life, but as soon as an LTE phone with great battery life comes out I am on board!
21. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:21 6 0
Dual core means nothing if the OS is running Motoblur. Even though the Atrix for example has a dual core processor it is still freaking laggy. Compared to the Inspire, the Inspire runs faster and smoother. Yes the Atrix gets better test scores, but the Inspire gets really good scores too. If Motorola would just realize how crappy motoblur is and just stick with STOCK OS, Yes I would pick their phones up in a heart beat. But Motoblur is the Vista Windows of Android.
24. Nodak (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 23:25 1 0
Don't forget that Motorola also locks their bootladers. That's what made me lost interest in the Bionic.

So just as every other phone received OTA updates to eclair...froyo... and eventually gingerbread and honeycomb..... so will these... its a waiting game.... just like the release of this phone

One thing i noticed, if you go into 16 seconds in the video it says "Be here at 8" so maybe march 8th would be the release???
