HTC Thunderbolt has specs leaked-are they too good to be true?

0. phoneArena posted on 31 Dec 2010, 01:14

After a German web site called HTC Inside displayed a leaked slide showing some of the specs of the upcoming HTC Thunderbolt, there are some good reasons to question the veracity of the leak...

probably, but it wont be long before we see a dual core droid

my guess is that this will be a signal core snapdragon at 1.2ghz

but that is just a guess

oops single

Or, the Thunderbolt with the dual core 1.2 Ghz chips will be 'announced' at CES 2011 with shipment to start later in the year.... Sprint did a similar thing with the EVO; no reason the same concept can't be repeated. Early announcement followed by later shipment seemed to work well for the EVO.

It will have the same hardware as HTC Desire HD: single core 1GHz processor, 768 MB RAM and 4,3 inch 800x480 old display. Nothing special.

IT HAS HSPDA ISNT THAT TMOBILE!!!

6. protozeloz posted on 31 Dec 2010, 06:28

maybe its like the Droid 2 global CDMA/GSM?

the front facing camera tells me is a lie 5MP would be a little too much for a front facing camera... think it may consume a lot of data for video calling, but i guess it can be reduced for such features .... dunno.... time will tell

T-Mobile has HSPA+

WOW.
A future phone.

8. kabir02 posted on 31 Dec 2010, 07:15

that sound far fetched as phones can never think of having those features by this 2011. may be 2015

In 2015 these specs would probably suck

In 2015 there will be "Mom's Eye Phone" A La Futureama an implant that projects images right in the vision of the eyeball.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyY_Yt4bp84

storage is also to high even if it can handle a 64 gb card the remainder is a weird amount

11. vzw_guy (unregistered) posted on 31 Dec 2010, 08:36

Umm... one more comment on these specs. 5MP on a front facing camera is nice, but overkill for video conferencing just yet. The other thing is the tell, in my opinion. The 'fact' that the device can support up to 132GB storage on a microSD card.

Time for basic math, folks...

If you follow the progression of storage and how it has incremented, it would make sense if it had been printed to accept 128GB for the SD card.

I call FAIL! I still want it, but FAIL on these specs....

if you will just take a second to read the image of the Vodafone spec sheet you will see it has 16 gigs of internal memory and 128 gig Micro SD, not 132 .

Dual core = more battery drain. I don't care what the theory is behind it. When people start to see that all these "amazingly fast" processors are killing their battery life, you'll finally see the end of the processor wars in the Android camp.

14. protozeloz posted on 31 Dec 2010, 10:11 3

actually the newer processing arguments added on dual core processor make it more battery efficient that regular core processors, why? here is a simple example

-one truck needs an X amount of fuel to carry an X amount of merchandise, now when in overload caring 2x the truck consumes more fuel and become less efficient.

-now if you have another truck you can split the load and save fuel by simply having both carrying on a regular load.

how does this apply to a processor?

the more hot a processor gets the more power it consumes the more battery it drains.

now by spiting the processor capability you can make sure that one will back the other up on critical moments keeping them both cool and overall saving power. so its gonna depends more on how the system uses this processing power to its advantage

15. DontHateOnS60 posted on 31 Dec 2010, 12:03

If that's the case, Android is not going to help the processors attain the battery saving power it should be, considering how power inefficient that platform is in general, and because the manufacturers just slap the two together and sell it as is.

I could see how dual core may help battery life on Symbian, since Nokia actually takes the time to code it in an efficient way, as evidenced by the fact that it clearly doesn't need a 1GHz processor to be just as fast as a Galaxy S moving through the UI.

17. protozeloz posted on 31 Dec 2010, 13:10 3 1

It would be nice to see Symbian running on a dual core phone.

Now for this specific kind of possessor the OS itself needs to be arranged in order to even operate (its a rumor I've heard and a possible reason the stores where not plagued by dual core phones by now) now according to some other stuff I've heard 2.3 has been optimized for better processing performance and more power deficient so will see how things do there (personally if i don't see i wont believe)

28. CRICKETownz posted on 01 Jan 2011, 23:36 1

it would be nice to see Symbian be relevant...let alone running on a dual core phone. dual core should be the least of their goals at this point.

27. maccmill posted on 01 Jan 2011, 20:23 1 1

yeah now if only they could make it user friendly and pretty, not to mention find a way to shut up Apple and their lawsuits symbian (and nokia) might have a shot over here. Fact is, and whether you want to hear/accept it or not, symbian isn't a concern or even a big enough slice of the pie to matter in the US market.

YOU GUYS JUST GOT PUNKED !

18. skymitch89 posted on 31 Dec 2010, 14:22

It is near impossible to find a 64Gb micro SD card, what makes them think that a 128Gb will be available by then? I doubt it might have a 1.2Ghz dual core Snapdragon, but it might have a 1.2Ghz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. As for a 5MP front facing camera, I think that it is completely possible but highly unlikely but would more than likely be either a 2MP or a 3.2MP. An 1800mAh battery would be welcome on almost any smartphone and is more than possible.

20. FightForTheLost posted on 31 Dec 2010, 18:06 1

Yeah, the highest current front-facing camera is a 1.3 MP, so why would they jump to 5 without at least hitting 2 and 3.2 before then? It just seems too much of a stretch...especially since there's no reason to have the front-facing cam THAT close in resolution to that of the back.

21. osanilevich posted on 31 Dec 2010, 20:04 1

is a 5MP front camera even possible?

22. protozeloz posted on 01 Jan 2011, 05:59 1

In theory yes its possible but the video calling capabilities will be less efficient because the video obtained from 5MP will be really big and suck the life of any data plan, or make the conversation choppy because of the bandwidth, but if it where the original 4G @ 100mbps then 5MP will be super smooth

24. Shafeer posted on 01 Jan 2011, 12:05 1

Obvious overhyped stupidity, and maybe the slide is fake. Maybe they just want to attract attention along with a higher reputation for themselves, we shall see.
