HTC One the first smartphone to score 1/10 on repairability from iFixit

0. phoneArena 28 Mar 2013, 18:14 posted on

The HTC One is one of the prettier phones we've seen in a while. It's got a shiny new aluminum unibody design, and looks great. According to iFixit, the aluminum unibody should also make the HTC One more durable. The trouble is that the One is apparently not designed to be opened at all, and scored a 1 out of 10 on repairability by iFixit, which is a score no other smartphone has ever received...

Don't you kid us.
Your example is totally invalid.

Bugatti costs you few millions and those kind of people dont care about $$ like us. So they are willing to pay few thousand money to change the oil.
One the other hand HTC one is around $700 same as most flagship smartphone.
So HTC is not a bugatti. It's toyota but you cant fix any part of your car unless you break something.
How fun is this??

Do you understand??

if they stated is very hard to fix it, can you imagine how much would you pay for some shop to repair it?? and the dropping test showed how the phone turned out after the first drop...gooood luck with the beautiful phone..

For some reason I sense a biased rating from "iFixit."

With that said, repairability score has always facinated me. Sure its important for those that know and like to but who really wants to mess around with the internals of their $600+ mobile device??

Repairability for any premium phone, like the HTC One, will always be difficult as &*^T*. This is due to not only the materials but the precision that is needed to achieve such premium feel. If you think about it it's similar to repairability of cars. Sure repairability for a Toyota Camry is going to be really good and most people will due it themselves. Repairability for a Bugatti Veyron will be 1/10. To change an oil requires taking half the engine out!

Sarcasm aside this score doesnt mean much to me and I will continue to pursue and buy "the One."

Well, not according to PA and GSMArena.

I guess truth is a bitter pill to swallow.

The iPhone 5 has a "premium feel," and it scored a 7.

I'm with Mr. Jerry on this one. Your comparison makes very little sense. The One costs no more than other flagship devices, so comparing it to very expensive cars doesn't work. Besides, most people don't fix their own cars (Camry or otherwise) unless they do that for a living. The difference between The One & say, the GS4 is that when something goes wrong, you will almost asssuredly have to buy a new one as opposed to getting it fixed or just buying a new battery which would more than likely be significantly cheaper.

What he meant is that most people doesn't even care about fixing something themselves they rather pay to get someone to fix for them.

Honestly I really want to like the One. but this right here is killing the attraction of the phone

No he didnt mean that lol

And of course you can pay to fix.
But what I can see from the article is that you might pay more money than usual or it is even hard to find technician around you.
Besides you might wait a long time to fix your handset even directly through HTC unless they would change it with new one which is very unlikely though

If you spend $600+ on a phone you should buy insurance, at least for the first few months of owning it.

Yeah, because 2 objective, unbiased reviews mean nothing to someone only concerned about the back of a phone

When websites favor the galaxy then its unbiased huh..but when a site says something negative about it then its biased. For example, most Samsung fans were saying pa is biased cause of the way they did the display comparison, but gsmarena said the gs4 had the better display, and you guys say it's unbiased lol you Samsung fans are worse than apple fans

did i say sammy invented amoled?? lols
"congratulates samsung by doing this" i am refrring to the link ive posted.. anyway, Samsung galaxy s4 brings the first fullHD Amoled mobile panel :) and its getting better and better
and no one can matches the happiness of viewing it

"What you should take away from all this is that the final weak point of the Super AMOLED screens has been taken care of and the Galaxy S4 offers image quality like no other smartphone on the market. Its impressive contrast and almost perfect viewing angles make everything on the screen pop, regardless of your viewpoint.
The color saturation is beyond the reach of any LCD out there, which make even the dullest image appear remarkably vibrant. Still, if you are not a fan of the oversaturated look of AMOLEDs, Samsung gives you the option to tune down the saturation to more natural levels and enjoy the best of both worlds. There's a dedicated Adobe RGB setting that gets this done.
The brightness levels of the Samsung Galaxy S4 are about on par with the rest of the company's AMOLEDs, which is to say not very high. However, due to their low reflectivity, this doesn't affect outdoor performance. Keep in mind that enabling the auto tone setting in the screen option limits the maximum brightness to under 300 nits, so if that matters to you, you better keep it off." -gsmarena

"With the sheer number of excellent flagships to choose from, if you are looking for the best smartphone, you had it better than ever. There's no need for choice anxiety either, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 is a safe bet as long as you can get past its increasingly dated design or you need that IP57 certification." -gsmarena

PA included mediocre call quality in GS4 REview, the final hardware unit of gsmarena says otherwise so, the design wud be d only con of gs4, but i like the premium and compact look of gs4. just dont like the gloss

i cant read any sammy fans their telling PA is biased in d dsplay comparison, a nokia fan says somthng like that..

anyway we posted the link just for another reference.. i myself ddnt say PA is biased and ddnt think something either, because as what ive said, AMOLED will probably wont win with that kind of display comparison coz it is Amoled, a young tech with weaknesses, however no one cant deny how people are amazed with its very attractive contrast and the bliss we're feeling everytime we encounter the SuperAmoled//

While it's true most people probably won't fix any flagship phones (even say the S4, which should be must easier to open) themselves, what I think we can take away is that the ONE will probably cost a lot more to be fixed by professionals as well. Hence if the screen cracks or anything else happen you can pretty much kis your $700 good bye (without insurance ofcourse, but insurance isn't free is it....)
