HTC One selling well, but not as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4
0. phoneArena 05 May 2013, 01:55 posted on
A survey of 20 AT&T and Sprint stores in Los Angeles reveals that the HTC One is selling well, but not as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4; despite a nearly two week head start for HTC's new Android flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has out sold its aluminum clad rival and has been returned fewer times than the HTC One has...

HTC needs to get that black one in stores! That'd definitely help.
20. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5282; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
HTC really screwed themselves when they couldn't get camera sensors. That little debacle cost HTC valuable time when the GS IV was not available, and could have built up some sales momentum. But with nothing to sell, HTC has lost some of the potential of the One to turn around its sales slide. I think the One will do well for HTC. But it could have been great.

Common consumer won't buy because: No micro sd. 4mp camera = bad to them.
31. Rayanx10 (Posts: 45; Member since: 30 Mar 2013)
you just a hater you hate htc. no one cares about micro sd they are damn slow anyway and that is making your s4 laggy. and its not 4mp camera you idiot the camera is perfect and its a new technology next flagship it will be better this is just start its beta mode you clearly not smart enough
51. tedkord (Posts: 3932; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I care about micro SD. I won't get a without it. And my class 10 64gb Sandisk is in no way slow, nor does it slow down my S3. The class 2 it came with didn't slow it down any.
274. Rager722 (Posts: 94; Member since: 30 Jan 2013)
You may care about SD but I care about the quality of my phone, I hate crappy plastic Samsungs
62. chistoefurpuffer (Posts: 139; Member since: 11 Mar 2013)
Someones pretty butthurt, I'm sure before the HTC One you would definitely of liked an sd card and removable battery.
70. jromy (Posts: 111; Member since: 26 Feb 2013)
That didn't really help to make your point tho...who the hell wants a beta anything on a flagship?
76. Rayanx10 (Posts: 45; Member since: 30 Mar 2013)
listen man all phones when they start a new technology they start small and then they go big and this is htc case although its 4 ultrapixels camera its better than many phones out there and the low light photos are amazing at night. the s4 low light pictures suck you can't see anything only black & brown solid color.
267. jcarrigan (unregistered)
Wow kid get your info straight before you vomit your nonsense. It has an Ultra pixel camera which comes out to 4 megapixels, not 4 Ultra pixels. also I dont know if your some raver guy who only takes pictures at night but I take the bulk of my pictures in a well lite room or during the day, it sounds alittle creepy with you focusing on taking pictures in low light settings. use your imagination on that buddy and come back when you regain some sense.

calling s4 laggy!! who's the fanboy here or should i say hater!!
102. PAPINYC (Posts: 2044; Member since: 30 Jul 2011)
iCare too, there's no way in hell I'd buy a smartphone with no microSD slot because a smartphone without expandable memory is a Dumbphone also known as an iSomething!!
104. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Do you know you are pretty much saying that the microSD card make the phone smart? When did microSD became the brain of a smartphone? If you are calling a phone without microSD slot, so you are saying the HTC One is a dumbphone?
And Stop hating on Apple products. It doesn't make you a better person. No one needs to hear your opinion about how much you hate on certain products. Keep it to yourself. Buy what you like and ignore what you don't

the galaxy s4 is far better than htc one and thats why :
super AMOLED > lcd
5" screen > 4.7" screen
exynos 5 octa > snapdragon 600
2600 mAh > 2300 mAh
13 megapixels > 4 megapixels
gorilla glass 3 > gorilla glass 2
micro sd support > no micro sd support
replaceable battery > not replaceable battery
Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Thermometer, Barometer, Humidity, Gesture > Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass
7.9 mm thickness > 9.3 mm
130 g weight > 143 g
android 4.2.2 > android 4.1.2

yaa good one, the only thing HTC is better is its front speaker..Even when holding I prefer the feel of GS4 compared to HTC one.

The Samsung Galaxy S4, full of useless features. The next big ugly thing is here.
235. SherlockHolmes (Posts: 125; Member since: 10 Apr 2012)
Lcd produces more real color than u r Amoled !!
$69 ppi is more better than 440 ppi !!
4.7 inch is perfect size for a Phone !!
and Battery runs for almost same time on both Devices so the Capacity does not matters !!
And 4 Megapixels Ultra Camera take far better picture in Low Light !!
And it may not be better than S4 in Daylight but is easily acceptable !!
Fukin all Gorilla Glass breaks on Falling !!
32 Gb is enough and the Phone has no Lag because of Sd Card!!
People do not keep 2 batteries for the Phone ; You should try the Battery Bank instead !!
People do not use the Thermometer , Barometer , Humidity Gesture for like more than once or twice a Year( These Features are included to take money from fo !!ols like you )
7.9 mm thickness is way more less comfortable in hand than 9.3 mm thick phone (You can check the Reviews on Un-Biased Sites )
What Fukin Plastic will obviously have less weight than Plastic and if your hand is able to tell the 13 gram difference than you should work in the Store to measure weight instead of weighing Machine !!
And it will be updated to Android 4.2.2 !!
If anything Else then just COmment here I will be beack to Explain you neutrally !!
You Sammy fan Boys should Acccept the truth that this time Htc One got the Edge Over S4 !!
Then you all blame Apple Fan Boys !!
And Ya I forgot to Mention the Boom Box , Zoe feature and Blink Feed !!

If the phone is better as you argue, how come it sells less than?

HTC One build quality is way better than Samsung Galaxy S 4 build quality. Also LCD > AMOLED. With everything else I agree.
268. ecmedic4 (Posts: 152; Member since: 02 May 2013)
Not everyone prefers amoled to Lcd, also not every S4 model has the octa core processor, megapixels dont mean everything in a camera, the apeture size, OIS, and way the software processes the image have a lot to do with it too among other things. GG 3 in drop tests hasnt faired well, but then again glass breaks when hitting a hard surface, just a fact of life. Not everyone needs an sd card slot or removable battery. and thickness and weight, well if a person cant pick up the HTC One cause its a lil heavier, they need to work out. My point is, not everyone has the same preferences, so just cause the S4 is better for you doesnt automatically mean its best for everyone. Ppl should choose what they like and not be bashed for it, just cause someone else doesnt like that phone, its childish and immature. Its their money to spend so its their choice and preference, get over it. Also ive seen the S4 lag because of all the bloatware that samsung calls "features", plus of the 16gb, only like roughly 9 gb is available.
204. joey_sfb (Posts: 1973; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
While I like htc one, sdcard would be the deciding factor to halt a purchase. Agreed that many still buy htc one as indicated by its sales.
But to say sdcard does not matter in term of bringing more sales would be in deniel.
217. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 5645; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
acutally half of consumer cares bout SD CARD i know i still care for SD CARD cause i like too remove and expand my memory i don't like FLASH INTERNAL MEMORY which is why I will never buy HTC phones. At least SAMSUNG still provides SD CARD slot and a removable battery which is larger than the HTC ONE
269. ecmedic4 (Posts: 152; Member since: 02 May 2013)
LG and motorola phones also provide SD slots, but motorola has an embedded battery, but they do have a slot in the side of the phone for the sim and SD card.
222. nk_blu (Posts: 7; Member since: 26 Jul 2012)
System apps are not allocated in microSD. Class 2 microSD is more than fast enough to play 1080p videos. I can't believe your comment has more likes than dislikes.
34. moroninc (Posts: 162; Member since: 14 Jul 2012)
your right.. folks (not nerds like you and me) will compare 13mp vs 4mp and obviously higher the better right?. foget the replacable battery on the S4 or the SD card slot.. the camera is the one that will make or break the sale.. and for me.. it let the one and HTC down by calling it "Ultra"
36. mew7946510 (Posts: 55; Member since: 10 Nov 2010)
You can actually say that though, even though I hate to admit it. Most people like phones with microSD card slot even though it's not very favorable nowadays and also most people need lecturing about the myth that the more the megapixels, the better, which can be true usually but not always.
42. HDShatter (Posts: 1014; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
View a 4MP camera vs 13Mp on a full screen desktop the difference is clear which is better no matter how good the sensor is.

Android has a filesystem and I point apps that support changing their data folder to microSD card. That way a device wipe would not erase data.
Approved useful when I visit service center I remove my sdcard and do a device wipe for both the cso and my sake.

lol, whoever thought the HTC One or the Xperia Z will sell better than the GS4 is an absolute IDIOT ! the One Sux !
63. chistoefurpuffer (Posts: 139; Member since: 11 Mar 2013)
Wouldn't say it sucks, but I still do prefer the s4 over the HTC One for it's flexibility.
270. ecmedic4 (Posts: 152; Member since: 02 May 2013)
Exactly, its a personal preference based on ones needs and likes. Everyone has a personal opinion and shouldnt be bashed, nor their choice bashed. If a person doesnt like a certain phone, dont buy the damn thing, simple as that. But not one phone is PERFECT for EVERYONE. These fanboy wars and bashing is getting old an very childish. Its your money, buy what you wish with it.
103. PAPINYC (Posts: 2044; Member since: 30 Jul 2011)
It doesn't quite sux' but, it could have
been GREAT. Aesthetically, it's a nice design. HTC needs to stop wanting to bs like kr--Apple and give their nicer devices expandable memory and removable batteries! !!
105. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Again with your comment, so what is so bad about not having the abilites to remove the battery and having a SD card slot?
Most people charge their phone once a day. Morning till night. It will for sure last them the whole day with charging it, except if they spend 3straight hours playing graphic intense games or watch movie at the highest brightness.
No SD card? Well for device like the HTC One, you have the ability to back it up on Dropbox?Box.com? What is it so bad? Seriously.
I will say iCloud is another story
110. GoBears (Posts: 305; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
Why would anyone on a tiered data plan want their pictures and videos stored on ANY type of cloud storage? Stop knocking removable storage because your precious phones don't have any. I have over 30GB of music, pictures and video I can swap between phones in an intstant and access whenever I want no matter where I am. I still have unlimited data on Big Red and I still despise "cloud" storage. I want my media on my device the instant I want it. I won't buy a device without an SD. They should put the slot on the device and leave it up to the user if they care to use it, end of story.
119. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Well then, in your case you do need the expandable storage. I was just speaking in majority of people's view. How many people do take 30GB of media around them? Or let's say how many people listen to their songs in FLAC or let's say how many people carry 3 1080P movies with in their phone
149. GoBears (Posts: 305; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
My point is that if a company wants to pull it's sales out of the gutter, it has to appeal to as many consumers as possible. HTC is only huritng itself with the carrier exclusive crap and the sealed up phones. I couldn't care less about pretty shiny casings on a device, I want and need function and flexibility. Samsung delivers all of those on all the major carriers and their sales numbers prove it's the winning game plan. HTC needs to follow this and not Apple's 2007 plan.
163. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Samsung is still missing one element currently, and that's the feel of a premium handset. Yes, specs and price tells us the phone is a premium phone, but when you have the phone on hand, it tells me something different. A lot of people DO care about having the feel of premium for a phone, and it has been mentioned so much with people on PA(including myself of course).
HTC do have the function sir. I think the new HTC one is an outstanding device. I had it for two days, and I really liked the feature it present to customers.
It's almost like if you choose premium, you can't have flexibility. There is nothing wrong with a phone that is non-user replacable on battery. Majority of people do charge their phone before sleep, so as long as the battery holds for a day, most people will not care about having the need to change their battery. Besides, who wants to bring an extra phone battery with them around?
Exclusive crap? Are you talking about the bootloader issue?
At the end, Samsung do sell a ton more because it delivers the performance consistently and continue to outdone themselves. Samsung do deserve the win.
169. GoBears (Posts: 305; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
Never said the One wasn't an outstanding device. I just said it lacks some basic features that some of us need. No, the battery doesn't last a full day of moderate use. Everyone I know that has one has to charge it during the day. That's not acceptable to me. As far as as exclusive, I was talking about leaving out the US largest carrier. That's just stupid when you are trying to sell devices. I'm not bashing HTC nor glorifying Samsung. Just pointing out reasons why they are losing sales battles to Samsung.
200. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Well, HTC lost me as a customer because of the Sense UI lol. I believe there's a battery management problem.
Also, I believe it was Verizon not picking up the One, not HTC. It is the decision that carrier make when it comes to selling phones? I remember something about it had to do with the DNA. Ya I understand about the exclusive topic, I wanted to buy the Lumia 920 so bad when it first came out, but I am a T-Mobile subscriber and it is only on AT&T =/... many disappointing potential customers
188. iushnt (Posts: 467; Member since: 06 Feb 2013)
Haha many of my frens don't know about HTC.. They don't know phones are known for premium build quality too.. This is how general people are..They see that any smartphone looks the same but its the brand and feature that counts
198. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Sadly yes. People in America read and believe what they see on TV without further research. Beats is the best example. I was talking to my co-worker the other day, she was asking me rather I know the galaxy phone? The Galaxy phone lol
Samsung did a great job with their ads thou!
121. bigdawg23 (Posts: 307; Member since: 25 May 2011)
Nothing wrong with carrying everything at once. I have. 32GB iPhone and remove photos all the time in case it's lost or stolen. My music accounts for 5GB plus I have a few movies. Now my Galaxy Note 1 has 16GB and a 16GB SD card. It's up for replacement. A non removal battery and no SD slot isn't a deal breaker. Besides I like Mophie Juice Packs and they have one for the HTC One. Since the S3 had one expect the S4 to have one.
Personally I still back up my photos to a PC as SD cards can become corrupt out of the blue. I am with you on Cloud storage for the most part. I do use it for music since my library is huge. It's nice to decide to grab a bunch of songs now versus later. I would need almost 1TB ad card to carry all music, which isn't possible.
In the end no SD card and none removal battery doesn't seem to hurt Apple sales.
136. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
For iPhone, if you turn on your photo stream, your photo will be save in your MacBook(If you use MacBook) just saying. That's save the part with backing up photos
194. iushnt (Posts: 467; Member since: 06 Feb 2013)
but having this feature will be much better than not having any,,I use sd card and cloud storage on my phone
123. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
Oh it is suggested that you backup your file over Wi-Fi lol... data plan...30GB... I think we have brains right? lol

Very well said! As a Big Red subscriber myself with Holy Unlimited Data, I couldn't have stated it better!!
Kudos to swappable memory, Big Red and Holy Unlimited Data.
Say "No to drugs" and say "No to fixed memory"!!
189. GoBears (Posts: 305; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
Haha I'd say yes to drugs before fixed non-expandable memory. Oh wait...I already have...
237. Slammer (Posts: 817; Member since: 03 Jun 2010)
I believe your comment is based on inexperience. You never experienced power outage or shorted batteries to value why removable batteries are indeed important.
Expandable memory allows your phone to grow with you rather than you outgrowing your phone.
I really think the importance of a vast majority of people wishing to retain these important factors, is because we absolutely feel that manufacturers have the ability to design a great looking product while keeping the necessities in place. Accepting anything else plays into the manufacturer's goal of controlling you and your financial obligations to purchase new phones once the battery completely dies or you outgrow memory.
258. WakaFlakaD (Posts: 352; Member since: 30 Apr 2011)
To your respond John,
I had purchased extra battery before and in fact I always have all my media save and let it grow with me on a 64GB microSD slot along with a portable hard drive. I have my experience on all those. I had used over 40 phones and I had gone through what I need. It's great to have flexibility, but when the pay off is not high, then why bother to beg for the flexibility? I would rather choose the premium feel of it.
128. ebubekir26 (Posts: 305; Member since: 21 Dec 2012)
the s4 sells better, but the HTC One doesn't suck you idiot !
your a stupid HTC hater.. HTC One is one of the best Smartphones right now. just because you prefer Samsung doesn't mean you should hate HTC or other manufactures.
people like you ruin everything :@
64. jonartpop (Posts: 152; Member since: 25 Oct 2012)
Yes especially in developing countries. Common consumers do not care about ultrapixel they only care about the bigger megapixel and big storage.
