Mobile Choice is a magazine in the U.K. which has just released the winners for its 2013 consumer awards. 21,000 entries were received and for the third straight time, Samsung was named Manufacturer of the Year. Phone of the year went to the HTC One; the Taiwan based manufacturer's Android flagship also won Best Video Camera on a phone, and Best Design...

Wtf what about the Lumia 1020? the best cameraphone in history!!!
42. Gaurav008 (Posts: 328; Member since: 20 Jul 2012)
I am guessing in all probability that they had placed a deadline day or something and the day probably was April 1st or something near. So, its only logical that L1020 isn't mentioned.

Yes it is but HTC did good at build quality adding a premium feel to the phone.
82. htc_prep (Posts: 303; Member since: 09 Oct 2009)
I agree to a degree. I think the 1020 should have gotten best video and maybe innovative... Maybe.

htc one best of the rest..
-screen is best with iphone 5 and get score 8.5 of 10.
-sound and call quality easy go up for best choice.
-sense 5 most beautiful and smooth touch and go up maybe after iphone 5.
-design is unique..build quality is excellent.
-night shot canera is very very great point and movie record then is best among the other.
in overall htc one is king 2013.

Lagging sense 5, I have tried many several ONEs and they have all lagged, the smoothest android phone is right now nexus 4.
Build quality of HTC ONE is absolutely extraordinary (in a good way :)
Screen is worse than Iphones, just look at anandtech and you will find that iphone has a better calibrated screen.
The camera is not that good, iphone 5s has way better camera in every way, maybe except lacking OIS.
Big bezel, if you compare it to LG G2.
HTC ONE is absolutely a great phone, but it certainly is not the best phone out there.
And Xperia Z does not have the best camera, how is it possible that it won.

Xperia tablet z was awarded the best tablet"
The best tablet is apple® ipad™ 4¶
2. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
WTF? Best Phone? The one with that ugly camera?
Sony Xperia Z, best camera?
Who is this Mobile Choice?
4. werthedroids (Posts: 60; Member since: 15 Sep 2013)
1st Nothing is wrong with the camera (though the Z1s is better) 2nd It's not best smartphone camera awards, it's overall smartphone, and the One is slightly better overall. It's less fragile, has a better screen, and you can get it with stock android. And those "BoomSound" speakers. they're cool.
20. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
HTC One's camera is full of noise. Just check every photo from PA or GSMA. Z's cam is better than One's but it has that thing that i called Purple Dream.
41. Topcat488 (Posts: 1394; Member since: 29 Sep 2012)
What you been "Smokin",,, the article says HTC won the best "video camera" award...
Z's cam is better than One's but it has that thing that you called Purple Dream. Or is that "Purple Haze"? Hehe
46. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
"Phone of the year went to the HTC One. The Taiwan based manufacturer's Android flagship also won Best Video Camera on a phone, and Best Design."
Purple Dream is like that purple lines that usually form in sharp details.
5. phoner (Posts: 6; Member since: 01 Mar 2013)
well i think you need to start from alphabet A,B,C and then we could tell you about those phones too and
man go and experience the quality of phones only then you have the right to talk about such great quality phones .
23. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
I HAVE. My coworkers have them and i borrow them all the time to compare them with my S4 and honestly they're good quality phones especially the design but about the hardware and software... Sony Xperia Z uses the same sensor as S4 but due to horrible algorythm, it takes poorer photos.
28. VZWuser76 (Posts: 3895; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
The HTC One's camera award was for best VIDEO camera, for taking VIDEOS. They said that the best camera (for photos) went to the Z1. The One also won for best design and overall, best phone.
39. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Stereo speakers. One of the best set of microphones for calling and noise cancellation during a call. And, and, and. Other than the still camera, the One has a great mix of features.
Which is why it got the award.
40. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
Features like that 2 odd button arrangement? BlinkFeed? Zonk?
65. VZWuser76 (Posts: 3895; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
All phones will have some things that people don't like, otherwise no one would buy anything else.
BTW, did the HTC One kick your dog or something? It's like you're fueding with an inanimate object.
76. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
Honestly, i had HTC One. But that pimp pissed me off with bad battery life, overheating and keep crashin (i dont know why) and then i just dropped it from bed level into a CARPET and it just dent. So i give it to my cousin and never EVER want to see that phone again. It's in my nature to hate something that dissapoints me.

"It's in my nature to hate something that dissapoints me."
You must be quite the hater. Life is all about dealing with the disappointments.

Those editors know their stuff! Good for them. It's a great device, I would probably choose it myself. I'd take the Google Edition instead of the Sense version any day though.
6. darkkjedii (Posts: 20033; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
HTC One, the only phone that wowed me this year. +1 HTC.
27. aditya.k (Posts: 493; Member since: 10 Mar 2013)
Z1 didn't WOW you? Its probably because of the rumors that spoiled the fun. :(
31. darkkjedii (Posts: 20033; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
The Ones looks, and interface did it for me.
34. rd_nest (Posts: 1591; Member since: 06 Jun 2010)
Nope. Z1 looks like another dull phone from Sony.
7. woodshop20 (Posts: 459; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
What are these guys even smoking?
HTC One, best phone? Should probably go to the Galaxy Note 3 or Z1 or even the iPhone 5s (as a 3rd resort).
The best camera is, hands down, the 1020. Then the Z1, then the GN3.
Best value would have to be the Lumia 520, or the Nexus 5 (when it comes out)
Best tablet choice is more sensible, however the Nexus 7 is arguably better.
14. mr.techdude (Posts: 569; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
@woodshop, ur right but u make the HTC one sound like a piece of garbage next to the z1 and gn3, those devices came out late 2013 while the HTC one came out early this year so that's why they chose it. The gs4 is just a gimmick, while the 1020 has the best camera but that is the only advantage whereas the one is overall a great smartphone. :)
17. woodshop20 (Posts: 459; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
You are right, the HTC One is actually a really good phone (design-wise, anyways), but it can't hold a candle to the more current flagships.
49. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4274; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
I find it funny how when the Galaxy S3 won this award last year, everybody just gave Samsung the credit they deserved, but when HTC wins, everybody doubts it and criticizes the people who made the decision. It's arguably the most well designed Android device ever, has the best speakers on any device in general, and probably the biggest advantage the One has is Sense 5; it gave useful features with a clean and modern UI that didn't slow down the phone, which Samsung and, to a lesser extent, Sony managed to screw up. Touchwiz looks like a mess, is loaded with tons of bloatware and useless features, and makes any phone lag. Sony's UI looks nice and has some good features, but has some minor performance issues. That's why the HTC One got the award.
Camera should have went to the Lumia 1020, followed closely by the Z1 and LG G2 (just for OIS that the Note 3 didn't have)
Tablet should have gone to the Nexus 7 or Transformer Pad Infinity. Both are much better than the Xperia Tablet Z.
62. Smokin (Posts: 120; Member since: 10 Oct 2013)
Because S3 stomps One X in every single way. Now the competition got much harder. The two closest are One and S4. S4's adv against One are better camera, performance and batt and SD Card while One's adv is only the design but enough to take on atleast MicroSD and batt advantage of S4.
66. VZWuser76 (Posts: 3895; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
Performance on the S4? After talking with friends with the S4 and reading reviews there seem to be a lot of lag issues with the S4. Samsung needs to put TW on a diet like HTC did with Sense.
67. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4274; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Better camera; yes, but the camera on the One is more than capable for what the average consumer will use it for, which is social networking; like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Not only that, but the One trashes the GS4 in low light.
Better performance; definitely not. The One is probably the smoothest non-stock Android device out there, it has been since release, the GS4 didn't change that in the slightest. The GS4 does technically have a higher clocked CPU and faster RAM, but those advantages are taken away by Touchwiz.
Better battery; they both last a full day for anyone I know who has either device, I know people 3 with the GS4 and 2 with the One, all are moderate users except for one light user who has the GS4. Nobody I know with a GS4, or any device with a removable battery for that matter, ever takes out their battery and pops in a spare. No one.
SD card; that's pretty much irrelevant with 32+ GB of storage (the One only comes in 32 or 64 GB), especially if you're as integrated into cloud storage as I am. I still don't use more than 3 GB of space on my phone, I keep all my media in the cloud. I don't think I've heard any of my friends complain about lack of storage either (except for one), and they all probably have 16-32 GB of storage.
Most of the arguments against the One are irrelevant to 90% of consumers.
8. NicoX (Posts: 13; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
I think the only drawback of this phone is its low resolution camera . it should be 8 mp ultrapixel . and ohh ... HTC should offer its next phone with competitive price . thats all and HTC shal rise again :D
48. Epicness1o1 (Posts: 249; Member since: 30 May 2013)
Yeah if they make a 13 MP or a 16 MP UltraPixel camera for they next flagship the camera is going to be amazing
75. darkskoliro (Posts: 1076; Member since: 07 May 2012)
I think they were heading in the right direction with their idea in general though. Higher microns + lower ISO + low shutter speed = better quality low light picture! However they will need to increase their sensor size and their megapixels for their next flagship, 4mp and 1/3 wont cut it with the new cameras coming out :)
9. woodshop20 (Posts: 459; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
Galaxy S4 wins the most gimmicky phone. I think the Oppo N1 was the most innovative this year.
21. woodshop20 (Posts: 459; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
Well, Air view and Air gesture are pretty useless features that most users aren't going to use and are difficult to learn. The Oppo N1 has the rear touch panel and the swivel camera and dual boot CM/Android, which hasn't really been done before on a smartphone.
10. mr.techdude (Posts: 569; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
WI have the one and I am very impressed with it and I found it a revolutionary upgrade from my HTC one x though I find the camera and the battery on the one could be improved slightly especially the camera, it would have been the perfect smartphone for me. FYI, the HTC one won multiple awards this year as the best devicefor 2013.

Lol lighten up,best all around phone not camera phone, and yes they are pretty spot on in their assessment
12. nxl2610 (Posts: 49; Member since: 14 Aug 2013)
So ,where is the Apple's iPhone.I though they suppose to have the most "innovative" features ?
22. woodshop20 (Posts: 459; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
Apple hasn't innovated for about three years now.
56. rusticguy (Posts: 2828; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Isn't packing same thing in a new casing with cosmentic changes and selling it as innovation, innovation in itself?
13. SonyFindOneDroidple (Posts: 779; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Htc One is really really great to hold.the UI is beautiful and smooth.. boomsound is another plus.. i just dont like the camera. But overall Htc One deserves such recognition.. But of course, if Note3 is still the best thing that came out this year.. Next Year will be another battle as Samsung is feeling the heat
15. c.sonnen (Posts: 38; Member since: 06 Mar 2013)
Proud owner here..plus
T3 phoneof the year
EISA advance smartphone of the year
18. darkskoliro (Posts: 1076; Member since: 07 May 2012)
Haters gona hate. Great phone has deserved its recognition. Good job HTC.
74. darkskoliro (Posts: 1076; Member since: 07 May 2012)
Well I don't see why people are saying this phone doesn't deserve recognition. It does. It has neat Zoe features, VERY well constructed phone with its design and material choice, and is an overall fluid device with its Sense 5. If people object to that then they blatantly haven't used the HTC One for long enough, or just can't accept their fav. OEM losing! (or in Shatter's case, being paid by SS).
