Anyone who has ever held the HTC One in their hands can confirm that it's an industrial design masterpiece made with utmost attention to detail. In fact, the device's manufacturing process is so meticulous that it takes 200 minutes to craft the body of each unit. Its metal frame gets cut by a CNC machine, etched using a special electro-chemical process...

Definitely not! Sorry, but in order to characterize a design as a masterpiece it needs to be original apart from solidly constructed and pretty. The One is a plagiarist amalgam of other successful smartphone designs. At least the Z is original.

htc is a great company, samsung can't make such a beautiful phone even after spending more money(on research and development ) than any other company in the world
on the other hand, htc earns very less when compared to samsung......
but i think that this phone should have been a water proof phone with 5 inch screen,anyways, its a really beautiful phone

Well, here go. Now we see the correlation between Apple and HTC's deal. Schlep the marketing tricks to boost interest.
HTC always had me. They never had to change much to prove it was a high quality product without having to follow status quo. I guess I was cool when no one else gave a damn. However, here we are today trying to prop up HTC as they try to copy another company I supported for years as well. But because of ego and arrogance of the companies, I have elected to move on. The push for the utmost elegance on a phone is cool and I understand the theory, but I also claim BS on eliminating key aspects in the process of obtaining the elegance. Anyone has the abiltity, HTC does or did.
What good is all this elegance if it becomes a brick of inoperabilty? Everyone can question my push for removable batteries and SD cards, but I feel my 27 years of experience of the wireless and 8 years of HTC experience, does have some merit on issues pertaining to the need for these two crucial hardware items.
It may seem petty, but I don't know how many times having the accessibility to the battery and SD cards has saved me headaches AND more importantly; Money.
I wish HTC good luck in their sales of the ONE. However, I have passed on purchasing this device. It lacks the two needs I want. I'm not going to be suckered into paying 200 dollars for insurance claims on a dead batteries. In case anyone questions my reasoning:
4 out of 6 USB ports failed within months of my contract end. Having the removable battery saved me the cash in order to put down on a new handset.
I may sound off the wall, overly sensitive or even unnecessarily bullish on this, but I am being very specific that the experiences I've had with some hermetically sealed devices, leads me to offer at least my opinion.

Peter Chou evades the clear and concise question. Everyone can thumb me down in disagreement. However, the question was obvious posed due to an overwhelming Android user's concerns regarding the need for certain accessibility in handsets.
People think I shoot from the hip and even tech sites like this one feel I'm being brash. But, I ve seen the issues and heard the complaints. Samsung isn't a great sale just because of the marketing. Samsung is acknowledging the needs of users demanding a device that grows with them. Not a device they outgrow or can't use do to uncontrollable hardware failure.
HTC most undoubtedly, has the abillity to design a great handset without compromise. They didn't do it with this phone or the last ONE offer.

I feel your pain and i also think micro sd and removeable batteries are essential, unless they can pack a motorola kind of juice, i 'might' be able to live without it. But a micro sd slot is of essence, even 32 gigs would leave me wanting, unless they can pack 64 or 128 gigs, htc (and even nokia) would have a hard time going past samsung

Pain is not something that should come with purchasing a phone. It should be an easy experience where we purchase our device of choice to conduct everyday business with as least amount of headaches. From software to hardware. The company that allows the users to have much control over simple things like changing batteries or upgrading memory, is the company I choose to do business with. This money grab by manufacturers and insurance companies, is taking complete control over this generation that doesn't seem to see past cool,shiny objects. Only when they pay top dollar for a replacement device just for a dead battery, will they understand what I sit here and complain about. These companies insult the intelligence of what supposedly is a very smart generation. Why? Because the generation allows it.
Removeable memory is more than just easy upgrade. It also allows an individual to retain important info in the event the device suffers complete fail. This has happened more often than people think. Being able to remove the memory card and place it in a back up device on the fly, is definitely essential. The cloud is not yet secure nor stable enough to store everything on it. I choose to control my own documents.
Computers had expandable memory and batteries. Why was this never an issue? And why is it with phones? We have become dependant on handheld devices to overcome our need for computers, yet we forget about these options which helped us stay productive whether it is for play or business.
I'm not going to spend money on, or want a high performance vehicle if it doesn't have a working engine or drivetrain.

I don't think that HTC One white is ugly, but I agree that HTC One black looks better.

completely disagree.
i prefer the white one. it gives you the feeling of aluminum more than black one. exactly like white IP5.

I have no faith is HTC build quality. 4 handsets in 2012 and each one has dead pixel, dust, rattling volume rocker, poor finish, screen that isn't glued to the body properly, gaps everywhere etc.
I don't see this being any different.

ONE is by far the most beautiful phone of 2013 till now. Xperia z is also built brilliantly but dunno why I am always inclined towards the ONE I definitely want ONE badly. This is the kind of device that makes the android platform more likable..

Can we all just agree that the guy with the glasses is the HTC version of Jon Ive? I'm positive I heard the exact same thing about design and engineering coming together for something beautiful come out of Ive's mouth.
