HTC One Max phablet winks from new pictures with possible rear fingerprint scanner

0. phoneArena 13 Sep 2013, 09:40 posted on

A claimed HTC One Max prototype is on the loose again, people, and this time we see it sized up with the HTC One flanking its sides like point guards around Shaq. Not only that, but what is rumored to be a fingerprint scanner on the back is clearly visible, though we don't know whether it will make it in the retail version, and what will its purpose of existence there be other than unlocking the phone, iPhone 5s style...

Lol seriously? You've never seen me praise the camera tech in Z1? The design of the iPhone 5 and HTC One? I'm not going to spend time digging through articles, but read comment #3. Thanks.

Not true. I give credit where credit is due. I do have a hate for HTC as they always screw their customers over with support after 10 months after a phone has been released. They have the best designs of any Android OEM, but their customer satisfaction is definitely taking a toll on their brand image and financial records.

Agree 100%. HTC offer fine craftsmanship, but that just doesn't offset their pathetic product support once the phone leaves their warehouse.

If it's real, it's in the best place for a fingerprint scanner because it allows you one hand operation, just move your finger over while you're holding the phone.

"...it's in the best place for a fingerprint scanner because it allows you one hand operation..."

You will be able to unlock it with one hand, but if you want to use it you still have to use your both hands. So I don't see any advantage in that. Also if phablet is on the table on its back, you will have to lift it from the table to unlock it.

Good point, if it's on the table, you'll have to lift it. Otherwise, it'll be no problem just shifting your finger to cover the scanner as you hold it in one hand.

But what about winter time and gloves? If fingerprint scanner was on the front, you could operate it with one hand without a glove while keeping device in other hand which is in glove. But since fingerprint scanner is on the back you will be forced to take off the gloves from both hands and bad thing is that your naked hand may stick to aluminium phone body. :D

What if? Seriously, you can't design a phone for every single situation on the planet. R&D doesn't even work that way, they target the most common uses and demographics, then build around them.

I'd imagine that people would be accidentally touching and dirtying the camera lens with the fingerprint scanner being so close.

I agree with jad, and to be brutally honest, what phone camera lens doesn't get smudged from time to time, without a fingerprint sensor next to it? The small handful of times I need to take a picture with my phone, I instinctively wipe the lens, just in case.

Now that you mention it, the black dot does look bigger. Doesn't mean the camera is different though, but it is an interesting observation.

Looks like a beast! My concern is the mp count on the snapper.. Again 4 mp does not cut it in this day and age... Also I wonder if it will be an even louder boom sound since the speakers will obviously be larger.

8MP UltraPixel would be nice. I'm sure they're going to reserve that for next year's flagship though.
