HTC One Max leaked picture seems to confirm fingerprint scanner

0. phoneArena 28 Aug 2013, 21:14 posted on

Earlier today, we shared some leaked pictures of the upcoming HTC One Max, but there was a very interesting detail in one of the pictures that we missed at the time. One of the leaked pictures of the settings menu for the device seems to confirm that HTC's phablet will also include a fingerprint scanner for added security...

I don't know why fingerprint scanners didn't take off after being reintroduced (keyword being reintroduced as there have been several smartphones before it that have had it) in the Motorola Atrix. Perhaps it was so finnicky on the Atrix that people were turned off by the idea?

Fingerprints can be sketchy, especially with older people.

I had the Atrix and mine always performed well. That was one of the things I loved most about that phone. I think Motorola missed an opportunity to keep it going with the Atrix line.

How about making entire display a finger print scanner?? So only the owner will be able to touch the phone . I say that would be so cool...
but not gonna happen any time soon...

We'll be missing half of the hate posts regarding the fingerprint scanner since it's not an Apple 5S article...LOL

I just read most of the comments you were referring to. There was hate coming from both sides on the fingerprint scanner. Both iOS fans and Android fans criticized it on the iPhone AND on the Motorola Atrix. So what's your point?

Point is, if its iPhone you android trolls hate on it. If its android you're normal.

Side point for you.....all of a sudden we're going to see other companies implement it too, since a certain phone is putting its attention on it.

Like I said, there are Android users saying that was unless on an Android device. So your attempt to label me a troll just failed big time.

Second point, if Motorola had it on the Atrix, HTC is putting it on the Max and Apple hasn't confirmed it will be on the iPhone c, d, e or whatever... It looks AGAIN like Apple is the one following suit here.

You and I both know very well the 50+ comments trolling every single article about apple-ignorance doesn't help you here.

The atrix has it yes but nobody cared. All of a sudden apple might implement and it will soon become a necessity on flagships.

I'm sure the many people who bought that phone did care, so again you failed. Not to mention the fact there were plenty of articles who credited Motorola for bringing it to the mobile world. Why the insults, aren't we just debating? Why you mad?

steal someones device with a built in fingerprint scanner.. then just clone their finger print from the device because it will be all over it..

That's actually a lot harder than you think. For someone to go through all of that trouble, it would have to be some VIP's phone. And even though it is still possible for someone to hack in to your device, it is still safer to use a fingerprint than a password or passcode.

Every finger print scanner has an option for a second or third finger choice.

Finger print is the worst security for portable devices!!!! Think about it, it don't take much if you're drunk, passed, and etc. for someone to just grab your phone and swipe your thumb on it.

On the other note....can say HTC and Apple are like brother and sisters now>

Then you would think ahead and disable the fingerprint reader and instead put on the passcode or password security for when you are going to get "so drunk that you pass out and someone grabs your phone and swipes your thumb on it."

I mean seriously? I believe you're really over analyzing this.

Also, even without the fingerprint reader, it is possible for someone to just take your phone and hack into it if they wanted to. So, I don't know what the hate is over fingerprint scanners.

Over analyzing? No it's the simple fact that it won't take much to get your unlock your phone with your phone. And the person doesn't have to grab your hand to do it either. Being drunk is just an example that I put out there.

How many people will remember to turn off their thumb scan every time?

Hacking the phone will take more time than it is to get your thumb on the phone. There are no devices that are 100% secure, but thumb scan is 1 of the weakest security.

Thumb print have been in use for years now, it's nothing new. It's been in laptops, which it has not been the key selling point at all. They don't use this for portable devices for this very reason.

BTW Dr. Phil I seen a few shows of Dr. Phil it seems like you think like the show....it doesn't take a degree to figure the basic!

How seriously it's common sense Dr. Phil, put that on your show and see you can figure that out!

Jeez. You really must get wasted for people to do that. I'm pretty reckless but don't think I would do a thief the curtsy of unlocking my phone before I handed it over to him. Life is going to be tough it that's the kind of drunk you are. I think your phone is least worries in comparison to your car and house keys. Really don't think HTC can be expected to build it based on that scenario.

The most impressive thing is the speculation over a function that, if the author managed to get a proper translation of its description on the screen, wouldn't exist. fingerprint scanners on phones are cool, they are the future of mobile payments, especially if they paired this with the already existing face recognition AND voice recognition (with added security, instead of repeating your name, the app would pop a word, and you'd have to say it, then your voice tone is analyzed, and the sample quality is also analyzed to ensure it's not a recording (just because the face recognition failed hard back then, you could use a photo to unlock!))

The worst part about this: History is written by the bitten apple. As no one else cares until Apple does, rename and patent it.
