HTC One (M8) appeals mostly to loyal HTC fans, report says

0. phoneArena 25 Apr 2014, 09:42 posted on

Exactly a month ago, the much-hyped HTC One (M8) got both officially announced and launched on the market. The flagship was off to a relatively slow start, and although the somewhat-troubled Taiwanese maker has not yet revealed official information about the sales of the One (M8), it stated that it is satisfied with the market performance of the device...

It scratches pretty easily and it's fairly apparent once it is scratched. Could always put it in a case, but then there you are, now looking at what's become a plastic chassis phone.

They may as well make cheaper than dirt chassis for the phones and then interchangeable "premium" aluminum cases if people want the premium look.

The hardware is premium, but based on what I see come in & out of every store that I've worked at, the software (from the Hero to the 2013 HTC One) is anything but.

Too bad it is plugged with many build issues. I was too close to getting one, it is gorgeous to look at and hold, but after reading about all the problems it is facing, I decided to not get it.

What are the build issues with the HTC One M8. I'm just wondering since I haven't read anything about them yet. D:

Don't get me wrong, I am not trolling at all, this was supposed to be my 1st HTC phone since the HD7, it felt great in the hand and looked brilliant when I tried it in the store, plus the camera is much better than the reviewers claimed. But couple of youtube videos and lots of complaints on xda and androidforums made me skip on it. Dead pixels out of the box, screen isn't flush with the speaker grills, loose volume buttons, not charging and dying battery, crackling speakers. Again, as a consumer I was thrilled when I saw this phone, I believed that for once Samsung should be scared, but HTC once again proved that they rather not spend big on quality control.

First, I didn't think you were trolling at all haha Sorry if it came out that way. I was really wondering what kind of issues the M8 has since my gf has one and I would like to see if those issues are on her phone as well. However, I have yet to experience those issues on her unit. However, the first M8 she got it has problem with the screen not be able to turn back on randomly and it had to be hard restart. We did exchange the unit at AT&T store and she hasn't experience any problem since.

I haven't read about any. And better yet I have an M8 and have had zero issues. Sounds like FUD to me.

The S5 is more premium in my opinion: it has a (way) better camera, a better screen, no space-wasting on-screen buttons, IP67 and a replaceable battery. But the M8 looks definately better. But that's not an important feature of a smartphone for me.

UltraGimmick taking utterly hopeless photos all day long
front facing speakers which doesn't make sense for a phone
huge ugly bezel
non-removable battery

yes, very premium, fanboy

Do you know what means "best built" ???
Sealed, nandicap, cheap aluminum, easy to dent, never to open, heavy, huge bezels........

And if know just a little about acoustic, you would know that FRONT SPEAKERS= POS for small size device like smartphones.

I'm getting this because of sense and the build quality but I hope the camera isn't a let down. I'm no professional photographer but I do like taking pictures of nature

I had last years model briefly. Went through three of them, first one stopped reading my sim card after the first day and my wife went through several of them for various reasons. Kinda turned me off from HTC but I might give this one a try.

I have a m8 and the only build quality issue is the speakers grill strip doesn't lay flush with the screen on one side.. Other than that I've been more than pleased with the phone. Of course it's not my daily driver (L1520) but it's a damn fine phone

Early batches of new phones from every single manufacturer have high defect rates. I had the same 'tilted' screen problem on my GS2, HOX& X6! I bet it has something to do with rushing products out to the market even before the damn glues get a chance to settle. But 2014 seems to be my lucky year - launch day m8 & z2 and no lemon yet.

I'm still more than fine with the issue.. just pointing it out.

I have the same issue on the bottom right side, but it is almost unnoticeable. Other than that small issue it is a fantastic phone that has been very reliable and fast through the past 3 weeks that I have owned it. The camera also seems to be much better than the reviews made it out to be.

It appears that most of the users, who opted to lay their hands on the UltraPixel beast, are loyal to HTC – 46.8% of them traded-in an older HTC device and claimed that they intend to purchase a One (M8).

I'm not sure how 46.8% constitutes as "most"??
