HTC M7 to be called HTC One

0. phoneArena posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:40

According to information from @evleaks, which has a very good track record in providing reliable leaks, is saying that the HTC M7 is going to hit the market as the HTC One; there is no word on what name the Taiwan based manufacturer plans on using with the two other handsets that it plans on launching around the same time...

Won't normal consumers think its older than the one x and one x + just by name? Not so sure that would be a good idea

9. jroc74 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:18 16 1

I agree with this. What is going on at HTC...?

10. jsdechavez posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:20 12 1

So the M7 (HTC One) successor will the HTC One 2? Then the HTC One 3? Oh great.

24. rusticguy posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:54 6 1

This one will be called the "New HTC One" next year will again be "New HTC One" and the story continues ... looks like they picked this after they slept with the enemy :)

25. cretinick posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:57 11 1

The M7 should be the "HTC Two"! Not "HTC One"...

If they will name it HTC One, they should at least call it "HTC One: Director's Cut"

60. HDShatter posted on 09 Feb 2013, 13:26

HTC M7 sounds nicer than HTC One -insert confusing stuff here-

29. RiseAgainst94 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 21:29 8

But...they... Cheered "HTC M7"...and I joined them.

50. Jonathan41 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 07:08 1

They also cheered HTC One lol

62. Coolest4ever7 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:22

I literally thought the same thing

2. bonsly16 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:47 15

Will this phone be the "one?"

34. Deaconclgi posted on 08 Feb 2013, 22:57 1

No, Neo is the one and not that Super Magnetic one either.

3. rickywinataa posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:50 1

i think they will still use the one branding, it's pretty popular after all like how samsung won't throw away the galaxy s branding & apple won't throw iXXXX name

27. cretinick posted on 08 Feb 2013, 20:11 1

They probably gonna use any letter (Like the X, S and V) or cool name after the "One". Like "HTC One M7" or "HTC One Dragonfly".

4. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:50 1 7

Htc "one hundred" might sound better............and litterally those words not 100

12. jsdechavez posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:20 1

so back to nokia's old naming scheme? haha

5. Feanor posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:51 4

I usually think that building traditions is a good marketing strategy. It makes products memorable. The One series may have not had the anticipated commercial success but it also didn't suffer from bad reputation, so why not?

6. darac posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:52 3

Better than M7, thats for sure

But if they want to create a legacy and brand, I don't understand why they don't go by alphabet here.
One B would be fine.

63. Coolest4ever7 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:23

One X squared lol

7. Birds posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:54 5 1

Ok it is simplistic....I love it.....HTC take my advice with this....Advertise the helll out of this phone....say you thought from the ground up with the device and come up with an interesting reason why you call the HTC M7 the HTC One....

8. papss posted on 08 Feb 2013, 17:58 4

Or it could be called One 2

11. jroc74 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:20 4 1

Or One X 2.

I agree with your earlier post. Just going by how other things are named....ppl might think this is older than the One X.

13. jsdechavez posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:20

Then the One 3.. geez..

18. nyamo posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:29 4

how is that any different than the gs2, gs3, and most likely the gs4?

19. EclipseGSX posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:51 3 1

Think about it.. One 3? Two numbers in a name, it's dumb and can be confusing like the new, new iPad. Or the old new iPad :D

26. jcpwn2004 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 20:11 2

or how about the Htc 2....

38. techtruth posted on 09 Feb 2013, 00:32 1

how about htc one xx

39. wendygarett (limited) 6 days ago posted on 09 Feb 2013, 00:49 1 1

One XXX :)

64. rusticguy posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:40

But then that phone would need 128GB storage if it is XXX for XXX

14. affandi posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:27 4 1

HTC One M7

15. wendygarett (limited) 6 days ago posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:27 3

17. leekielowe posted on 08 Feb 2013, 18:28 2 1

Battery?!?!?!?!?!?Let's see if HTC doesn't blow this one

20. OhSo3D posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:02

I really want this phone but I'm just not sure how the S4 Pro is going to stack up against Exynos 5 Octa. Such a shame that the s800 chips won't be released until Q2. That's the only factor that makes this a toss up with the SGSIV. :S

21. andro. posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:08

The Htc one series has been very good for the most part all except the one s which has been plagued with faults and problems

22. Taters posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:19

Andro. Not just the One s, the one x was riddled with problems too.

it should be called the One X2, with the number 2 being an exponent. The gs1 wasn't successful either so building on the One X is definitely the best strategy.

although HTC already screwed it up by making it bigger than One X while retaining the same screen size.

42. g2a5b0e posted on 09 Feb 2013, 01:23

The GS1 wasn't successful? Are you kidding? It may not have done the numbers of the S2 or S3, but it was one of the best selling Android phones of its time. I wouldn't be surprised if the only Android phone to do more up until that point was the original Motorola Droid.

23. imkyle posted on 08 Feb 2013, 19:49 2

htc one, htc one x, htc one x+

Big no no.

28. osanilevich posted on 08 Feb 2013, 21:04 3 2

I thought M7 was a pretty cool name. Pretty big reason as to why I personally was interested in the phone

30. MartyK posted on 08 Feb 2013, 21:42 1 1

HTC can use two brand HTC One and a HTC M (being a special phone).

Example:
M-Series
HTC EVO M7
HTC M7

One-Series
X
X-plus
S

31. Android4u posted on 08 Feb 2013, 21:55

Or they can get like Sammy and release a killer phone that's not altered for Any carrier. Even though I feel the HTC evo 4g lte craped on the one x.

32. MartyK posted on 08 Feb 2013, 22:29 2

That's where the M series plays its major role, similar to the Nexus brand cross carriers.

35. Android4u posted on 08 Feb 2013, 22:58

I see your point. But I don't know man, htc cant afford another year like last. Oh well, guess we'll wait and see

46. true1984 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 03:24

Epic 4G & the Epic 4G touch...

56. jroc74 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 08:24

This sounds alot better than confusing ppl and naming a new phone One...

33. BREvenson posted on 08 Feb 2013, 22:41

HTC has too many "One"s. One X, One S, One XL, One V...so will this just be THE One?

So much for "there can only be one"... :p

36. rishabh2795 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 23:12 2 1

Just give a User Removable Battery and Expandable memory and everyone will be ready to buy HTC phones. Thats the only thing which keeps most people buying HTC phones.
High price-removable battery-SDcard slot= HTC

37. thelegend6657 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 23:36 1

HTC One M !

40. Superpiff posted on 09 Feb 2013, 01:01 1

they should call it the htc hd one

41. amiroo posted on 09 Feb 2013, 01:12 1

m7 series is best idea..

43. darac posted on 09 Feb 2013, 02:06

You guys are so shallow and lack vision.
HTC One 2?
HTC M7?
HTC One xx?

First name is absolute idiocy because it basically tells you 1 2.
The second name means absolutely nothing and is generic as s**t. What is M for? What is 7 for? Also, there were tons of phones with the same designation already!
The third name is a peak of retardation. What would be the successor's name? One xxx?
Disgusting.

One is a perfect designation for something that should be a top product of the line.
It tells a message - this is The One of our line. Our prime. The alpha and omega.
Our first and leading phone. Our best.

And on second thought, I take back my alphabet suggestion.
Just One is enough. It is the very essence of the identity definition.

Ideally, each year people would just expect a new One without even a need for separate designation.
An icon product doesn't need it.

45. darac posted on 09 Feb 2013, 03:23

Also, if the successor needs to have a new designation, then the alphabet can be used. One B, One C, One D etc.
Like the starship Enterprise A, B, C, D, E ...:p

57. jroc74 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 08:28

All this would be great if they never named a phone One X, One V or One S already. They have a One series.....but the naming suggest this will be older.

Droid
Droid X
Droid X2

You can tell which one came first, and which one was the latest. Now that I think about it....Moto's new phone is rumored to be called the X. Motorola X so far. I have a feeling thats gonna change. If not....Moto and HTC need to hire ppl to help them name phones.

44. tiara6918 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 03:08

Htc one is a very good name for the companies next flagship phone. People will say that it is the one true phone!

47. Taters posted on 09 Feb 2013, 04:02 1

HTC One X 2(exponent) meaning HTC One X squared is the perfect name. One it keeps the One branding for some much needed continuous branding. Two, easy to name a sequel, you can call the next one One X to the power of 3 or cubed but just use the tiny 3 to keep the title short. Three, you can market One X squared easily by saying it is not just a One X sequel, it is the One X times the One X meaning it is a generational leap forward, in title at least.

On second thought, I have an even better and more truthful and accurate name. Ready..

Introducing the HTC rape me Apple and take my profits please!

48. Taters posted on 09 Feb 2013, 04:08 1

HTC One is retarded because the One X sounds like the higher end model judging by the title. It would confuse Americans too easily. I wouldn't put it past HTC though, they are dumb enough to give Apple money for something they never invented.

49. kinz1515 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 04:42

If you remember correctly, they shouted "M7, M7, M7" and then "One, One, One, One". So, in my opinion, we could have already predicted such a thing.

By the way, if they call the phone HTC One, and nex year HTC One 2 and so on, they would be doing something just like Samsung and Apple do, so I don't get how you people in here are saying they "somehow" joined the dark side...

51. lyndon420 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 07:19

I love my One X, but they should have called this something else IMO.

52. Jonathan41 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 07:27

This is good news. No need to introduce a new series into the mix. the HTC One X is no a bad device at all, although it didn't sale better then Samsung's GSIII the two devices stack up pretty well in the performance department. Plus all the other phones in the series did there job well too. The most common complaint about the One X was it's lack of a SD card slot. The One X is a powerful and beautiful phone and it deserves another generation. I don't know whats wrong with calling it the "HTC Two". I believe that's the most strait forward name for easily confused customers. Simply calling it the HTC One could understandably confuse some people but, I would hope people would take the time to know more about the phone they're buying then just the name.

53. preet27in posted on 09 Feb 2013, 07:32 1 1

well M7 name really suits htc's upcoming phone. then why to rethink a new name. like htc one. there is no point in this htc. rather m7 name sounds very attractive and A JAMES BOND TYPE. so its better to call it with its real name. nyways good luck for this device, its gna b rocking we all know that.

54. lubba posted on 09 Feb 2013, 07:39 1 1

HTC is rolling down hill slowly. They better not f**k up this "One" or they're done. The GS IV is coming soon so this "One" better have something extraordinary besides 1080p screen. As we can all see, HTC as an example, being the first to innovate doesn't necessarily mean becoming "the first." And besides, company can put 1080p on a screen.
