At anywhere near that price it will fail miserably

599 pounds in the UK or 669 Euros in Germany. So, most likely, off contract this thing will cost either $599 or $699 (if from Best Buy who seems to like jacking up the retail price of a off-contract cellular device, $699 seems plausible). That makes more sense than doing an exchange rate conversion.
Of course I could be wrong and HTC has gone crazy if they price the thing at $999 off contract.

There are Value Added Taxes that are pushing up the price in the U.K. The Flyer is not going to be priced at U.K. levels in the U.S. I would look at where he BB/RIM PlayBook is priced in the U.S. for guidance on where the Flyer is priced in the U.S.
No way no how is the Flyer going to be priced at $980 in the U.S. If they do price it at that level, it will have as much sales success as the Xoom. HTC doesn't strike me as being stupid.

exactly doug. VAT taxes and other things make things drastically more expensive in brittain than in america. Ours will be cheaper when adjusted. I would assume like the standard 600-700 off contract. The good news is Obama is again trying to push for a VAT tax here.. soooo.. who's for it!!?!? wooo hoo!!

Android tablets are getting ridiculous price wise, they need to start from the low end make a name and get Android OS better known to the average Joe, then maybe can compete against a huge brand called Apple, and yes I'm an Android fan, but average people don't care/know about dual cores, RAM, etc. All they're doing is making look Apple better and better every time a new tablet is launched, plus let's face it, crasftsmanship, and quality in materials used by Apple are unmatched and that plays a big role in the business.

apple uses glass and aluminum. how is that different than many android tablets? also, if android tablets were priced too low, people would think they were budget items. people want the ipad because its expencive. They think that means the best. Its a proven fact about retail. If it came out priced at 200 bux it wouldnt have the "aura" surrounding it.

Craftsmanship unmatched period, put the xoom next to the iPad and you'll see feel what I'm talkin about

Also ask Hyundai how long it took them to price their cars similar to Honda/Toyota
