HTC First with Facebook Home launches on AT&T today for $99

The vane and beautiful, or the truly social? That is the question that was in our mind when we first saw Facebook Home and the HTC First, the long anticipated Facebook phone. Today, the HTC First has finally arrived to AT&T and it carriers a low-price tag of $99 on a two-year contract, but not a whole lot of ambition.

Actually, the HTC First could easily be described as a mid-range device. A 4.3-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 1.4GHz dual-core chip with 1 gig of RAM and a 5-megapixel camera are hardly awe-inspiring nowadays.

It’s all about marketing with the HTC First and Facebook Home. Home puts Facebook all over your phone, and definitely tries to eclipse Android. It’s got your social updates, a Chat Heads messaging function and awesome full-screen looks. It will find its following - there are many people who spent a lot of time on Facebook and this might be a perfect fit. But will it be a mass market machine? We don’t think so.

The HTC First is now available in black, white, red and pale blue on AT&T.
