A Desire owner here, If the official facebook app gets deleted, can't I like download later from the Android market after the update? And what about the HTC apps which will get deleted, can't I download them also later?

According to HTC's Facebook page, Several HTC applications will be removed and placed online on the HTC Developer portal (developer.htc.com)

Besides that, the official Facebook application will be removed, but will be available for download from the Android Market. Any carrier-specific apps that you may have will be erased.

If you are willing to try the update out despite the glitches that may occur, make sure you backup your data first!

No SMS or MMS? What's next, no talking either? For that kind of walk, it would have been better to stay home. If at all.

It's a phone, for God's shake. A PHONE. Sometimes people and companies tend to forget that. Not affected personally but my lil' bro does have one. And he is pretty much likely to update, as he fancy new stuff like there's no tomorrow. Should I stop sending SMS to him?

FAIL!!!

Why is it so dang hard to make gingerbread updates. My ancient ipod touch went from ios2 to 4.2. My optimus will be lucky to go from 2.2 to 2.3. Android is still second to iphone

Probably because your lovely Apple products are made up of seemingly highly similar hardware and every iOS is almost identical to the other. Also note that your iPod Touch is NOT a phone. When you compare something, make sure they are under the same category. You don't compare a mammal to a reptile and say the reptile is better when they're not even similar, though they do both belong to Kingdom Animalia.
