:-/ Not for the USA. When you can get a 16GB Moto G for $199, a 16GB Nexus 5 for $349, a 16 GB Blu Life One X for $279, or a 16 GB BLU Life View with a 5.7" 720p for $247..... I love you HTC but $400 is a rip.

If you compare it with Nexus 5, it is better with slightly higher price.

No the Nexus 5 is not 350$ every where. In Europe you paid 360 euros or 499$ which is more the 212 euro of the 816.

It is not 400 dollar, we don't know how much it cost beside pre order. The range is 294 to 400. Beside the Nexus which is subsidized by Google, the other phone are not better. The moto X has a worst camera front and back, no LTE support and only have 16 gig of storage with no SD. The moto X also has less ram. But I will say the blu life One X is good, but will it get any support, it is on 4.2 right now.

"The moto X has a worst camera front and back, no LTE support and only have 16 gig of storage with no SD. The moto X also has less ram." You must mean the Moto G, because the X has LTE and is able to be ordered with 32 GB of storage. You're right the G has a lower megapixel camera front and back, and you're right it has no LTE; however I get 10 Mbps downloads on T-Mobile so that is fully sufficient for a $199 phone. The fact that it only has 16 GB matters nothing in this comparison because the Desire 816 has only 8 GB of internal storage. This is the storage that the OS is installed on, all Google updates are installed on, as well as all the apps you install. My 16 GB Moto G has two 2 GB games installed, with all of Google's massive updates; including the new language pack which is what 400 MB and still has 6 GB available because its not loaded down with pictures. The expandable storage is nice for pictures and the download directory but that's about all its good for these days. The Desire will need every bit of extra RAM; the Moto G runs well because its OS is lean. Motorola didn't add any skin to the phone, just a couple add on apps and it runs smooth. I'm affraid Sense on top of the Snapdragon 400 will be too slow or choppy. Even if it was $350 I'd say you'd be better off buying a $350 Nexus 5 or a $200 Moto G...

Oh also I should point out that the closest phone in specs to the Desire 816 is probably the Asus Zenfone 6. That's a phone that was announced at $199.... Both huge, one 5.5" and one 6", both 720p screens, both with 8 GB internal storage with expansion slots, both with 13 MP cameras. The Desire has dual front speakers, and it has LTE. The Zenfone has a half inch larger screen, 3230 mAh battery while the HTC has 2600 mAh, the ability to order a 16 GB, not to mention that its only priced at $199 US DOLLARS! Even if the Desire was $300 with the front facing speakers and LTE. I don't think I could justify paying $100 more which is 50% of the price of the Zenfone on top..... NUTS!

That's definitely reasonable for what you get.
