HTC DROID DNA to come with a locked bootloader, devs still working on a root

0. phoneArena 21 Nov 2012, 02:30 posted on

It seems like the DROID DNA won't be as hackable as some thought at first. The handset is going to come with a locked bootloader and, at least as of right now, there is no solution for this...

Well the HTC Droid DNA is exclusive to Verizon wireless so who cares for an international variant!

The HTCDev unlock was working as of YESTERDAY morning. It seems like Verizon is at it again. It's not HTC fault on this one, Verizon is meddling in things that they shouldn't.

Why do OEM's give carriers ESPECIALLY in the US so much power? Verizon would be nothing without phones. What good is a carrier with the BEST service without mobile devices to use? Why do companies like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, & everyone else that sells Android always give in to the carriers?

Look Verizon is the best mobile carrier in the US. I get that, but why can't they just be that & let us the people who buy the phones do whatever we want with them? If we choose to root then that is our prerogative. I have rooted every Android I have ever owned & I have never been disruptive to Sprint & Verizon. I have always been seamless. Sure I know rooting voids my warranty & I accept that, so what more can Verizon possibly want me to do? I pay my bill on time & I am loyal to them.

The HTC Droid DNA will be unlocked eventually by HTC, so what gets me is why even go there in the first place? To me this is just needless & plain STUPID. I am going to get my HTC Droid DNA & wait until the bootloader can be unlocked. I am kinda bummed that Verizon slowed my fun down, but from what I am reading there looks to be ways around it.

Verizon I really don't get this move by you. BUT I do respect your service & coverage. I couldn't go to anyone ELSE because I depend on your service, but this needs to stop. HTCDev website needs to start ASAP so we who can root, can get to what we do best, REMOVING ALL YOUR F*CKING BLOAT & BULLSH*T you put on our phones.

I want Verizon for their service NOT their BLOATWARE!

The only company that stands up to the carriers is Apple. I hate Apple as a company & their philosophy to me is crazy, BUT I do respect them when it comes to standing up to the carrier. It’s their WAY & only their way. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, & all the other Android OEM’s should emulate Apple in this regard & ONLY in this regard.

Here is a GREAT video on why to me ROOT is so important. I hope this helps anyone who really doesn't get what root is.

ENJOY, school is in session:

US isnt the centre of the world, everyone BUT US people have the DNA so I do think that international variant is much more important. And I dont get what you are trying to say, why are you talking about Verizon and its stupid locked stuff to me?
And ofc i know what root is -.- im a power android user

In the two days that I've used it I can say that there's nothing but the screen that's good on this phone. The battery dies after 4 hours of use. The galaxy note 2 has some cool features that I think will catch people's eye more than this phone for example the Picture in picture or the double screen or split screen. The camera is not as good in taking pictures as the iPhone 4S or the S3. With specs like this HTC really didn't do much. It's just a Rezound with an HD screen and faster processor. Nothing that stands out other then the screen.

i thought Rezound has the HD screen and this is the FullHD screen?

It's got a 5" LCD3 Full HD display, S4 Pro Quad, thinner body and more than that 4hr figure you gave.

HTC will probably make the bootloader unlockable in the near future like they have done for previous phones. It's also probably not encrypted like Motorola phones.

Wait... So you're telling us that you've been using a phone, that didn't release until today, for two days already?

Interesting... -_-

Sighs, a locked bootloader is what made it difficult to root my HTC Aria, and that phone was really short on storage space & didn't manage the battery that well.

After I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, problem solved. Freed a lot of much needed space & the battery lasted a lil' longer.

HTC doesn't like to play nice.

well that completely killed any possibility of me getting this phone which yeah, there was a slim, slim chance that i would've tried this thing out.

The HTC Droid DNA has lots of work being done already on xda. HTC ALWAYS unlocks the bootloader so it's merely just a matter of time.

I am getting it at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. The phone is EPIC. You have to admit that!

Don't let this bit of bad news sway you.

As far as I understand, devices are more secure with locked bootloaders. And since most users don't care about stuff like unlocking and rooting, it makes sense for device manufacturers and carriers to be locking things up.

But they should also unlock them for those that want it. And this phone probably will be unlockable through htcdev.com.

Yeah, some kind of an easy solution for those who're interested probably wouldn't hurt.

Yes, I know that it is more secured.. But even HTCDev unlock method still leaves it S-On, they should just fully unlock it for those who know the risk and willing to go for it..

I heard that the processor on this phone is ridiculously fast though. And the note2 can't even stay close with it. I'm not a camera guy so I don't care about that part. But I like a fast phone and from what I have read so far no phone can hang with it. Can anybody confirm that?
