Now this something Ill keep an eye out for. WebOS was definitely iPhone smooth. Would be nice if it could be placed into some great hardware from Samsung or Motorola.

Cool! Been waiting for this for a while. I hear WebOS was really great. Good luck to the developers who take up this project!
In other news, I saw an old WinMo smartphone today! It looked like a brick. XD

Loved WebOS. Was my favorite at the time of my pre plus. (As many others have stated before) If they can get that on some decent hardware, and get the development pumping, it will become my OS of choice.

To much to hope for? With all the options upcoming it is hard to see who gambles on WebOS. I so want to believe there is a chance. Give it a chance, developers, please.

Wait, a desktop environment? Forgive me this extremely ungeeky lapse: does that mean I could run a whole version of WebOS on my desktop as an operating system in place of Windows if I wanted?

yeah.. i think it will work that way... i've read in webosnation that it might be... so i think the new webOS will work for all devices... tablets, smartphones and PCs...since it uses linux latest kernel---linux 3.3 (android is still on linux 3.1)

That's actually really damn cool then. Perhaps HP is hedging its bets and coming up with a backup plan because of the steaming pile of fail Windows 8 is?

HP is on wrong track by not supporting webOS after it release some webOS device... it should be on progress and it has some promising looks that no one has..but since they dump the hardware and pretty much they dont support the webOS community, HP is being stupid...
and now, BlackBerry Palybook got the look of the webOS and its really nice... i wish webOS wont make same look like the old one on touchpad but make something fresh..something unique.. they should just let the design of the old webOS be with BB Playbook..
yeh... win8 will fail in PC but not on tablets... on PC, its not very friendly, people who use windows for years wont be familiar to win8 and they might just stick to win7 instead!! but on tablet, i dont think so..since win8 is really meant to be on tablet... steve ballmer's mistake is making it UNIFIED!! i mean being unified is a good thing, but their are people who will still prefer mouse navigation than their own fingers...
they will easily get lost in win8...so i just wish that webOS wont do that mistake of they will truly make it UNIFIED too... smartphone, tablets and PCs!

Actually this particular statement doesn't mean it will run on a desktop. The article says it has 2 build environments. A desktop and an OpenEmbedded. A desktop build environment is just that, being able to build WebOS from a Linux Desktop.
Does this mean there won't be a version that runs on a desktop? NO. I'm just letting you know that it is not what this is saying. There could very well be a desktop version of WebOS, but ARM and x86 are very different and the same builds won't work for the different architectures.

i wish they could really bring something fresh... different from the look before... BlackBerry now got the idea of its multitasking so now i hope they will bring something different!!!
i wish webOS will rise and be a great competitor to open source!!! (and defeat android :P)
but i think webOS should change their name..open webOS isnt as catchy as is should be!!

webOS is beautiful and I hope Gram comes up with a new , equally or more beautiful design

indeed... they should come up with new ideas since the Playbook already has its UI... they should make more revolutionary...

I agree as well . The Playbook made a ugly generic cheap mock up of the webOS UI . webOS needs to pioneer something else . It DEFINITLY pioneered multi asking because as you see , everyone else has copied the car metaphor , but even that , webOS still does it better (cards stay live and don't automatically close apps like the crappy ass Android version)

i actually like the UI on playbook but touchpad has a different kind of UI... they look the same but act different...
i dont see some mock up version on android.. all i know is that android's multitasking makes it the worst multitasker! so laggy and battery hog!!!

i think if HPs past CEO isnt stupid, i think webOS will be the top OS now... if it was in the hands of nokia (elop just come in 2010 and ruin nokia) it might be the top platform that dev will be crazy about and nokia dont need to ditched symbian and meego and go full force WP and they will still gonna be the top manufacturers...
oh its disgusting how bad desicsions ruin everything!!!
