HD Voice coming to the UK, thanks to Orange
Looking for better voice quality on your mobile phone while in the UK? If so, Orange is looking to accomplish just that. The UK-based wireless provider is promising to introduce a new voice compression codec with a wider bandwidth, compared to the current one being used. This new codec is specifically called adaptive multi-rate bandwidth, but it will simply be known as HD Voice by Orange. Testing is set to begin in limited UK cities early this year, then through the rest of the county later in 2010. But don't count on using it anytime soon, as there haven't been any consumer handsets announced yet to support the new codec.
