Google's CFO: No rift between us and Samsung
0. phoneArena posted on 03 Mar 2013, 19:59
Thanks to the success Samsung has had with its Android models like the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Samsung GALAXY Note II, and Samsung's plan to release a smartphone using the Tizen OS, there has been talk that Samsung does not need Google anymore and as a result, the two are quarreling; this has been disputed by Google's CTO who says that the relationship between the two is terrific...

Both companies have to screw up very badly for them to part ways. Samsung is good at ignoring partners competitive behaviors but to compete head on. Proven as apple main supplier till apple themselves give Samsung the boot.
Google with their open source mentality are less protective and support innovation in general never hear them sue another company because they out innovate google.

First thing u need to know is ''samsung is nothing without android'' move on to wp and nokia will do the same thing they did for 14 years, dont get me started on tizen. its ugly, even pa doesnt like it, tizen is a waste of r&d cash just dump it and focus fully on android, and hopefully nokia doesnt zip past you

Samsung want success on Tizen was a lot to work on, 1st they need to get a lot developer support and a lot apps appear in 1st launch.
Also from all the while, Samsung not really good on OS and apps, I don't see bright future if Samsung really get off Android so soon.
It take times for jump to another fresh OS.
8. joey_sfb posted on 03 Mar 2013, 20:56 0 1
And they won't. Tizen is a bargaining chip with Google.

it's html5 based. How much more devs do you need for it?

Uh, no big surprise here. The WSJ is anti-google and had nothing to back up their assertions.

In my opinion, Samsung should've just turned this into the next touchwiz, could've brought great potential and brought another reason to buy Samsung phones, (since let's be honest, touchwiz 5 is boring) and Android could've evolved another step forward as a whole using some of these features. Not to mention Samsung's dedicated app store will be limited and many will not jump on these phones because of lack of support that you could already find elsewhere.

You can see samsung's future without android, just take an honest look at touchwiz, that's tizen, launcher in disguise

Ditching android at this point would be a horrible business move for Samsung. Even if they do put out some tizen powered devices. There's no guarantee that they will be successful. At this point for all we know tizen could end up just how bada was. If Sammy ditches Google now and tizen ends up d.o.a they would have screwed the pooch so to say.
Its going to play out like this: Sammy is going to stay with android and keep working on fine tuning tizen. I would venture to say they are also keeping an eye on Ubuntu as well. Just wait, in five years or so the mobile world will be one big open source play ground.

Tizen is open source, so it likely won't end up like Bada. On top of that, Tizen is more of a back up for Samsung. It's not good to rely on Android solely, just like how it's bad for Nokia to rely on WP only.
19. parkwaydr posted on 03 Mar 2013, 23:00 0 0
I know tizen is open. I was just pointing out that there is no guarantee that it will be successful. When I said end up like bada. I meant that there's a possibility that it won't be that successful/widespread. Like bada was.
35. hiBreed posted on 04 Mar 2013, 15:53 0 0
Whats the benefit of being open source if it doesnt have a robust api? Devs also have the right to love a platform you know, they wont just jump on cause its open source
18. shuaibhere posted on 03 Mar 2013, 22:59 0 0
Stop all this s**t please....
tizen is replacement for bada not android....
Tizen is only for low end phones...

Smart stay and smart rotation are just gimmics. Multiwindow is a good feature, not an "innovation". Samsung is not innovative by any stretch of imagination. In fact, no one in android camp seems to be innovating. HTC made a fine effort but that's yet to pay off.
I'll agree, however, that samsung provides the best android products just because they have the ability to find the right balance between hw and sw. Most of their success has to be because of marketing, just like Apple.
21. spideyhead256 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 23:16 0 1
smart stay and smart rotation certainly are a gimmics :P the non-geeky audience fancy such things
36. hiBreed posted on 04 Mar 2013, 15:55 0 0
Gimmicks do sell phones, alright, you can ask apple
26. GALAXY-STORM posted on 04 Mar 2013, 00:48 2 0
Smart stay and rotation are not gimmick. I have the custom rom running on my s3 in 4.2.1 v. They work like a charm and even the s-voice have improved.
I still got a few more new features like the daydream mode, multi notification bar, magnification gesture. Even the ui is more fluidic now.

"Samsung is not innovative by any stretch of imagination."
Wow.
I suggest you really research their smartphones, tablets, the features, their mobile device screens.
While you're at it.....research their HDTV's, their appliances, their dvd, blu ray players, their monitors, their hard drives, their ram....did I miss anything?
Oh I did miss something....there is a reason Apple partnered with Samsung for the chips inside iDevices.... Samsung is one of the few companies that can make their own SoC. Ever heard of the Hummingbird and the Exynos?
"In fact, no one in android camp seems to be innovating."
Where have you been the past 3 years? I will help you a lil bit:
3D phones, dual screen phones, Samsung and LG had tilt to scroll, zoom, pan in their UI's. How many other companies are doing that? Article today about the GS4 might have scrolling based on eye movement.
Yes....thats the same Samsung you claimed...isnt innovative by any stretch of the imagination....
lol.

This is pure speculation. How come Samsung leave Google and vice versa. Now both are chicken and egg...
Samsung's all flagship and innovative devices are running android and Googles android market share is mostly from Samsung...
I think this is a ploy to break down android and Samsung. I agree with Pichette...Google and Samsung have a terrific relation ship...
oh...onemore thing Samsung already discontinued Bada...
37. hiBreed posted on 04 Mar 2013, 15:59 1 0
Google can survive without samsung, alright(that will leave enough space for lg, sony, htc and the like), sadly, i cant say the same thing about samsung. Wp is nokia's territory, firefox is unproven, tizen is $hit... Welll, maybe ubuntu, or sailfish
28. RobotMan posted on 04 Mar 2013, 07:04 0 0
Sumsung is not stupid like Nokia, they make all OS that they can sell. Why leave Android, they even build WP that does't sell much compare to Bada. If ios is open, Samsung will also sell it. All this talk is nonsanse.
