Google to layoff even more people at Motorola

0. phoneArena 04 Oct 2012, 06:44 posted on

After the initial announcement that about 4,000 employees of Motorola were going to be shown the door, it now appears that Google might be looking to part ways with even more people. The company has informed the media that, by the looks of it, even more employees will have to seek other occupation than previously thought, but at least the company's also bumping up the size of the severance charges it's going to pay...

Most of the jobs being lost are in India and other non profitable Asian markets, where Moto fails to be a key player and as such Corporate HQ status is not warranted.
So almost none of the job cuts announced target the core production or development side and were infrastructure related.
Yes any job losses are sad, but I would rather see these type of job losses compared to those that occurred at Nokia, where they lost some brilliant R&D minds {Jolla}.
Moto needs to become a leaner, meaner company, by removing unnecessary layers of infrastructure they should become a stronger player in the Wireless world once more.

Sorry to hear all these people losing their job.

It could had been worst for these guys (if Google never brought out MM), these people would had been release with nothing more than a unemployment check.

Hopefully, they all will get pick up by another tech's companies. :(

I bet that google will re-hire a bunch of contractors to fill the empty seats. Companies are very heavy into temping to avoid overhead costs. They will promise the opportunity of going perm and then when the job is done "see ya". Its not about innovation anymore, its about market share and profit margin. So long as customers eat up all the marketing garbage and buy.

Its so funny how people are hating on google. Its a fact that motorola is a struggling company. If they keep everyone who made the company struggle in the first place then them buying motorola would have been a waste of time and money
