The pie in the face is to everyone who thinks buying an idea holds value. An idea is worthless unless out put to practical use or theory implemented. We all have the million dollar ideas pop in our heads. Without pursuing them, they are just novel ideas that disappear.

The pie is on Michael's face, the author of this article, for not knowing the difference between NOVELL and NORTEL.

Well, let's see... why would Google reportedly refuse such an offer.. maybe because they knew that the others were breaking antitrust laws?

Bitter? No. Annoyed at the lack of regard for the free market and their competitors' willingness to use the government to attack them? Oh yes.

Only one using the gov't here is Google in their cry of bitterness after they lost the patents bid.

No...they aren't using the government. The DoJ is investigating this one all by itself, because "trust busting" is a proud, hypocritical tradition for the government dating back a hundred years. Apple has been trying to use government muscle all year against Android, and now you accuse Google of "crying to the government?"

Commenters on PA bring a new meaning to the word "blind".

What is really important that this letter does not reveal is why MS wants Google to join in bidding on the patents and why Google refused.

Sounds like Google is still bitter from losing the patents.

I can see the offer being made... buying these patents is wasted money essentially. Its like insurance against lawsuits because most of the suits aren't coming from each other but the Trolls. It would make sense for these companies to pool and protect themselves from the mutual greater enemy.
If its true that Google declined... then cried foul afterwards... Pretty lame. Or maybe they were planning on bringing up the anti-trust laws and take them all down a notch... Pretty lame as well.
Yet would you be buddy/buddy with someone (Apple) that is literally beating on your "family" aka vendors Samsung, HTC etc It would take a lot to convince me to turn my back on my supporters like that...
Who knows maybe if this deal is true, google could have negotiated a solution for its OS and help out Samsung/HTC. I am willing to bet there was not time for such a negotiation and Apple may not have been open to it.
Patents for software technology is just bogus. Found out yesterday that %30 of software/technology patents have already been patented, if not once but multiple times.
The patent office keeps giving them away, quality control is out the door.
Patent Trolls are rampant, there is even a company that owns 35k patents (Largest holder of patents in the world, all they do really is buy them) and charges other companies for "protection" from patent suits. Like a freak'in mob extortion. Most of the defendants are start-ups that cannot afford a court battle and choose to settle, in a lot of cases going under anyways.

i dont know that its "pie in the face".
so, google declined to get into a big monopolistic group and buy up all the patents. That actually sounds like they are sticking to their "do no evil" mantra. I dont understand how its "pie in the face" because they cried foul that the organization that they refused to join is using all its might against them. They took a stand against creating a monopoly venture with apple, MS, and RIM. Congrats to Google. Its harder to stand up and do the right thing than it is to join in with the bullies.
Maybe they were taking in good faith that the group wouldnt turn around and use all those patents to sue the crap out of google to slow down the onslaught of Android?
Sorry Miz, but the only people that sound "bitter" are the ones creating a monopoly to try to take down google because they cant compete in the marketplace of ideas and OS's. Yea, that would be Apple included.

There is nothing better than to smash a pie on someone’s face. Well yes sex is WAY better but as for pure zaniness nothing beats this. I have had the opportunity & I have to say it's glorious! lol If anyone is ever presented with that opportunity please try it, it's just an extreme sensation, I don't know how to explain it! lol I promise you this, you will laugh until your belly hurts! Yes in college we set up a 60 person pie fight, it was co-ed & it’s still by far the most fun I have ever had! I need to stop the story just gets to wild after that……… lol
