Google remembers its News & Weather app exists, releases massive update
As we've mentioned a few times since the death of Google Reader and the rise of Google Play Newsstand, Google News is one of the best/most promising products that Google has continued to ignore. Google is still basically ignoring the core Google News product, but it has released a massive update to the News & Weather app for Android.

The News & Weather app had been delinquent for a long time, and has been consistently disappearing from devices, but Google is bringing it back in a big way. The update to version 2.0 brings two of the most requested features - tablet support and personalization when you sign in with your Google account. Additionally, you can add multiple places to get localized news and weather; and, the navigation throughout the app has been made more intuitive. And, especially nice for tablet users, the News & Weather widget is now fully resizable.

The new update has also been broken out of the Android system and dropped into the Google Play Store, which makes it seem like Google will be continuing to update the app in the future. We would certainly support that. The News & Weather app is compatible with Android 4.0+ and the update is rolling out now. As of this writing, we were able to get it through the Play Store on a Nexus 10 tablet, but not a Moto X.
