Google partnering with LG for the next Nexus phone
0. phoneArena 03 May 2013, 07:14 posted on
LG received a big boost for its mobile business by becoming the manufacturer of the fourth Nexus phone last year, the Nexus 4. Of course, that shouldn't be attributed to pure luck or something like that. There was a certain period last year when LG managed to outperform its competitors in the Android industry by introducing some pretty amazing tech...

Awesome LG and Google! Bring it on! :)
14. TheBitterTruth (unregistered)
LOL, why are you getting dislikes?
Probably because no nexus from Samsung.
25. xperiaDROID (Posts: 5203; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
I guess they want Google to partner with Sony, HTC, Huawei etc. to make a Nexus.
31. LukeTT (Posts: 13; Member since: 03 May 2013)
Probably because they don't own a Nexus 4. Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind Samsung, HTC, or Sony making the next Nexus. But LG making it is not a bad choice by Google. The Nexus 4 was, and still is, a great piece of hardware.

I do agree. Nexus from Sony.. um, not now but I think HTC is now mature enough to gear up the nexus line up. HTC one is the best example of their maturity. Its the best monster out there!

Because people give red thumbs if you've ever said something negative about what they love, or something positive about something they hate. Red thumbs rarely have much to do with the actual comment you just made, it's about how people hold childish, insecure grudges based on comments you made weeks/months previously.
Red thumbs on this comment in 3..2..1

If there is a next LG nexus they must focus on camera and music features! Get a good lens and a better audio chip!

It should'ev been ™SONY™, not LG this time®

I keep wondering why PA is not blocking you even you are trolling Nokia and LG but whenever I comment against Apple and Samsung they block me.
P.S Phonearena is biased.
Now they are going to block me

If Google would have released a Nexus 4 LTE for Verizon I would have bought it, but now the only phone for me will be the EPIC Samsung Galaxy Note III.
I can't even imagine what a 6" 1080p full HD screen will look like. All I can say is that it will indeed be super sexy.
32. xperiaDROID (Posts: 5203; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
There are two maybes for the EPIC Samsung Galaxy Note III,
1. Same design again
2. New beautiful design with BEASTY specs and features
And for me, I will choose number 2, I believe in Samsung this time, they need to make the Galaxy Note III EPIC!
45. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3849; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
It's always going to be BEASTLY. The Note series typically has killed the Galaxy S series historically. I really see no difference this time around.
Samsung can hit it out of the park if they ever put a metal casing on the Note III. Let's see what comes of it. Either way it will be Samsung's best mobile device EVER.

Those are not LG haters, those peoples want Google to partner with other manufacturers, not LG again. :)
44. androiddownsouth (Posts: 598; Member since: 02 May 2012)
Why? What phone has LG produced that has truly wow'ed anyone? None of the LG devices have impressed me. I love their TVs but just haven't been impressed with their phones.
30. Diazene (Posts: 123; Member since: 01 May 2013)
LG isn't that good, the camera, touchscreen and overall durability of the nexus 4 were horrible
37. xperiaDROID (Posts: 5203; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Are you sure? I've tried the Nexus 4 before and it is nice, the only bad thing is the Nexus 4's back is slippery.
40. Jcdz100 (Posts: 16; Member since: 14 Apr 2013)
May be it's time for HTC... Impress with one....
46. thelegend6657 (unregistered)
I want it to be oppo :(
62. xperiaDROID (Posts: 5203; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Hmm......it will be possible if Oppo wants to make Nexus, but Oppo didn't think about that yet.

Camera - not the best, downloaded LG's camera app and now it performs amazingly.
Touchscreen - Oustanding!
Durability - Mine is still in perfect condition, and I'll trade durability for premium look/feel any day.

Best phone I've ever owned, and I've had 3 HTC's and 3 Samsung's previously. Build quality is outstanding.
Thanks for the LG camera app tip, I'll search Play for it.

What was it again that LG failed at with the Nexus besides its launch, which Google actually took blame for?
42. jackhammer91 (Posts: 21; Member since: 23 Apr 2013)
bad camera, sub-par screen, GPU throttling, brand name..........
52. ash29 (Posts: 55; Member since: 28 Oct 2011)
So you want a 13MP purview,Super Amoled 2 screen combined with an outstanding hardware, all for 350$?
59. Hello-dirt (Posts: 102; Member since: 02 May 2010)
Yes. Am I asking for a lot of phone for the money? Yes, and I would love it even more than my good-enough Nexus 4
4. tiara6918 (Posts: 1352; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
Why LG again?Google, why not try partnering with Sony or give a chance to other smartphone manufacturers?
9. Suo.Eno (Posts: 151; Member since: 17 Feb 2013)
+10. I'd rather see that Sony gets the Nexus gig as well if not phone then a tab (though it's already rumored that Samsung again got the nex11 deal). Maybe LG went lower than low cost that it's hard for El Goog to resist.
On topic as per quote "What's interesting is where Motorola and the so-called X Phone fit in all this.". It's not rocket science. The X phone shouldn't fit in as far as branding + positioning is concerned and deserve its own game because at this stage for the Nexus program I don't think Google would want to risk the ire of its Android OEM partners w/ a head on collision. They know already that Google owns Moto and probably some better idea than the rest of us about the X phone so Nexus are their safe zone to still get that AOSP dev device out at turns.

Why not? The LG Optimus G would be better than any phone released this year so far if it had a Qualcomm 600 and a 1080p screen. In fact, the LG Optimus G screen holds up quite well still. Don't look at the Nexus 4 screen, Google screwed up the firmware on that like they did for the Nexus 7, they LG Optimus G screen was gorgeous(despite being the same screen as the Nexus 4).
They got critical acclaim for the Nexus 4.
And LG can make ipad, iphone, and their own screens so they have the factories. If you thought the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 delays were bad, just try giving it to HTC or Sony and see how bad the delays are.
They also have the matter of keeping the only companies with a 7.9 inch 1900 x 1200 screen(LG) and a 10.1 2560 x 1600 screen(Samsung) ready for production happy.
You Fan boys and haters never fail to forget that Google has as much say, if not more, in the design of these products. So it is always the best for them to choose a manufacturer strictly based on specs and factories and LG has both.
LG is a great choice. This isn't the same LG that makes the worse dumb phones in the world now. They make great TV's and smart phones now.

What is supposed to be wrong with the N4 screen? I own one and my screen is beautiful. It's not 1080p, but it still looks great. I was concerned about the screen before I bought it because I was coming from SAMOLED+ Samsung phones but after a few minutes of using the N4, those concerns went out the window. It doesn't have the deep blacks but the colors are outstanding for the rest of the ranges.

Borrow a friends LG Optimus G, open the Youtube app and watch some Pixar trailers and the 4k time lapse videos and compare the same videos on your Nexus 4. Or play with the Optimus G wallpapers and you will see.
Google really messed up the calibration on the Nexus 4 and LG really babied the calibration on the LG Optimus G. Huge difference.

Gotcha. Never seen this because I don't use Youtube on my phone, mostly on my tablet. Thanks for the reply.
33. lallolu (Posts: 229; Member since: 18 Sep 2012)
May because nexus 4 is a good phone even though there was supply issues.
65. boosook (Posts: 932; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
Oh come on, why don't you understand that sony has an ecosystem of its own (for music, books, games and movies) and would never accept to make a nexus phone because it would go against their own interests?
5. samsungisthebest (Posts: 4; Member since: 07 Feb 2013)
After half a year nexus 4 released and it's specs near galaxy s3's
24. StalkinUrMom (Posts: 110; Member since: 16 Apr 2012)
Not really. With the Nexus you get the quad core of the international version and the 2GB of RAM of the U.S. version, and yet, it still costs half as much as an S3. Nexus phones have never really been about ball busting specs anyway.
6. sintruder (Posts: 58; Member since: 30 Aug 2012)
I wish htc partners with google for nexus 5 because this will bring similar design elements from the htc one which is really awesome!!
8. ksenia (Posts: 25; Member since: 29 Apr 2013)
I wish HTC partners with google for nexus 5 because htc fixed all issues from past phones they had before and there battery is amazing now
10. CanYouSeeTheLight (Posts: 764; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
This, or Sony but they need to fix their screens.
11. mydi.maus (unregistered)
if its still LG for the next nexus hope that they use a high mah battery like razr maxx, waterproofing like the MOTOROLA DEFY.not to mention snapdragon 800 16mp xenon flash camera.CRAMP ALL in a 7.1mm thick titanium back.then you get NEXUS 5.
36. LukeTT (Posts: 13; Member since: 03 May 2013)
I don't understand why you got so many dislikes. Those are great specs actually.
13. TheBitterTruth (unregistered)
For God's Sake Improve your camera!
And google please try to improve the battery life in nexus phone!!!
Optimus G with the same 2100Mah had pretty amazing battery while the nexus with the same battery was crap.
18. QWIKSTRIKE (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Mar 2010)
Being that the Nexus 4 was only available for 2 carriers in the states it was a fail in my opinion.
Verizon and Sprint had to opportunity to sell that line because of limited radios.....wtf
19. LukeTT (Posts: 13; Member since: 03 May 2013)
As an owner of a Nexus 4 myself, i can honestly say that LG surprised me (in a good way).
I actually didn't have high hopes for the build quality given LG's reputation. But boy, was i wrong. It feels so solid, and so good to hold in the hands. Yes, the glass back is fragile, but i don't mind that at all because it looks sooo damnnn sexy.
Camera is not that bad. It could be better, but i'm generally pleased with it. Daylight shots look great, low light is terrible though. That's the only downside.
Speed and performance? Second to none. I don't even have to explain how fast the S4 pro is on this beast. A joy to play games on this.
And given that i live outside the U.S., i don't give a damn about LTE. The 42Mbps HSPA+ is fast enough for me.
So what do i think about LG making the next Nexus? HELL YEAH.
