Google not planning to "build out Windows apps" because the users aren't there
0. phoneArena posted on 12 Dec 2012, 15:56
Google has not been quick to support Windows Phone so far, only putting out one official Google Search app, which obviously didn't have much time or energy put behind it. And, it looks like Google isn't planning to work any harder to support Windows 8 or Windows RT either. According to Google Apps product management director Clay Bavor, Google is not planning to "build out Windows apps" because the users just aren't there...

Very sad to hear that...i use galaxy s2 and lumia 800 love both devices .come on google ...let the mobile ecosystems be vast and vas ..different people have different taste...any way metrotube is far way better than official youtube than on my s2 but still wait for urs one ......
3. ogy_dogy posted on 12 Dec 2012, 16:09 5 2
Have to agree on metrotube, cant wait for the desktop app.
20. lovefist posted on 12 Dec 2012, 17:40 0 0
Wow weird we both have the same phone. S2 and the 800. But I think google is just waiting for the users of wp8 to expand before they offer their other apps.
2. ogy_dogy posted on 12 Dec 2012, 16:08 11 11
I could understand wp, but windows 8 is going to become the most popular platform to date, mark my words, and google will be sorry.
On the other hand i hate microsoft for making apps for android while google hasnt got a single proper app for wp...
5. MichaelHeller posted on 12 Dec 2012, 16:16 13 0
Windows 8 is likely why Google left it open to change the strategy. It's hard to imagine that Google could ignore Windows 8 forever. WP will likely have a much slower growth curve.
29. ogy_dogy posted on 12 Dec 2012, 18:07 3 3
Have to agree there, but we learned to live without google on wp, so it doesnt matter. Only thing is, how hard can it be for a multio billion dollar company to make a few lousy apps and save its face...

You can lyao all you want, bu there are still more pcs in the world than androids, and 90% of them are running-windows. Its just a matter of time until they upgrade, be it to 8, or 9, or whatever, but metro is here to stay - and rule.
31. TROLL posted on 12 Dec 2012, 18:27 4 8
Give it another 3 to 5 years and "Linux and Android will take over and rule.
Dream on, WP8, 9, 10 will be an epic fail, o isn't it failing allready....!
Millions of people, and millions of compaies around the world use Linux, very large governments requiring the use of Linux open source to ensure security and stability of there networks and infrastructures. Also so for techies and powe users, not for the illiterates, dumb basic users, like Wp8, and W8™®©
36. ogy_dogy posted on 12 Dec 2012, 18:34 4 2
Dude, i never said wp is going to rule, but i did say windows proper will, as it has till now. Linux is used by what, 2,3% pc users? Cmon, they had plenty of time to beat msoft and never have. Windows rules the pc market, always has, always will.
45. BattleBrat posted on 12 Dec 2012, 23:04 3 3
I don't think that Linux will take over, I think that Android itself will evolve and become more advanced, and then take over the PC
47. haseebzahid posted on 13 Dec 2012, 00:45 2 2
android is cool but LInux man break me a break its the worst OS ever built although its open and secure on the same time its worst in user experence highly un-productive harder to learn no huge software support or very limited support. its more like developer friendly then user so i will laugh at you all day because u said Linux is gonna rule with its service. large companies use linux cuz its free they dont spend millions on licence fees and and they mostly forced it on workers . on other hand windows is far more rich and versitle for end users that matter not the large firms tell me one good developer studio that can even come close to Visual Studio or .NET or just keep it down to your self and this is one example
55. Pings posted on 13 Dec 2012, 12:56 0 1
There are only more for now. It's just a matter of time. Android is selling like crazy world wide. Can't say the same for Windows/WP. LOL Google it :], or Bing it...SMH... Sorry Windows 8 sucks, it just does. The business world wants nothing to do with Windows 8 because of productivity. You can get more done faster on older Windows version, it's just the way it is. Rule? Lets trying being relevant 1st.
I could have gotten Windows 8 for Christmas, and said no when offered.

lol dude i cant imagine how im gonna live with my laptop without windows 7, i dont want any stinky os other than Windows,
a bunch of people commenting in tech sites is not what really goes on around the world.. But actually i havent used linux, mac os or whatever for a long time, ive seen and used for a while.. I hated both of them, I love the gestures and stuff on windows 7 to minimize and maximize windows, and a whole lot of other stuff..
Anyway im not upgrading my laptop to windows 8 because im not sure if it would be so great without a touchscreen, So im gonna wait a while and buy a new awesome laptop with the awesome os windows 8 or buy the Surface pro :D

Okay, so since there is iOS support, this is not a "we hate competition" decision. There are quite a few app developers waiting to see how Windows does.
The horrid catch 22: Some users won't give a new OS a chance without certain apps, and some app developers won't give a new OS a chance without users.
I hope a strong Christmas and New Year sales for WP8 and W8 will spur on development. A few more functions and a few more top level apps and we will have 3 good, different options for years to come.

Google should just develop apps for their own platform. If you like Google's service's then switch to Google hardware. Very simple. Besides...I don't buy Google's hardware hoping for apps from apple or ms.

Its called scared for what Microsoft has planned. They don't want to give m$ an inch due to knowing the potential... Android at 70 % won't and can't get much higher..
56. erdpov posted on 13 Dec 2012, 14:01 0 0
Google is not like your beloved windows phone. Keep dreaming about some plans, it's not plans. Now it looks like Microsoft is in despair about attracting attention to their system.

If Google was a smart company, and every company should know, you never leave any option untouched. Windows Phone is really starting to take off, largely thanks in part to the Lumia phones. Just because somebody chooses not to use the Android ecosystem, that doesn't mean that they don't use Google apps.

its okay... WP and windows dont need you!!
and bing needs to be use anyway... and im pretty sure microsoft will hault the approval!
and good luck on populating your google+
40. papss posted on 12 Dec 2012, 19:30 1 1
Ha... Just shows what google is thinking about M$ and windows at this moment. There a large amount of % that M$ can go up in market share and google has a larger % to go down for theirs
43. taz89 posted on 12 Dec 2012, 21:05 3 0
am sure if/when wp8 market share rises google will port its google apps...if it was purely based on competition then they would not make any ios apps would they...its the same as microsoft not making any apps for android but only recently they decided to start making apps because they simply cant ignore the market share google owns.
41. jroc74 posted on 12 Dec 2012, 20:59 1 0
To me its a chicken or the egg scenario. Maybe if you make your apps available to WP, that would get some more sales for WP.
44. Edmund posted on 12 Dec 2012, 22:11 1 1
lol... who gives a sh!t that google doesn't want to incorporate it's data-mining services into Windows Phone. With the exception of youtube and this gmail account, I've managed to eliminate them completely from my PC and I have never been happier.

Wouldn't be because they are concerned about Windows Phone bringing some much needed competition..? Nah that couldn't be it.
