3 minutes after this deal closes Google lawyers will walk into a courtroom and file a massive lawsuit against those Fruit People. Get the popcorn ready!

I think there's another part of this that people haven't talked about. Google has their @home program cooking in the background. It will supposedly allow you to dim the lights, turn the washing machine on and off ect.. There would be no way they could get that going and make money off from it without manufacturing.

I was thinking that too, maybe Google was looking for the atrix capabilities, the webtop application turned into a native feature + "open accessory" + "android at home" gives this purchase a lot of sense its the missing piece of the puzzle to turning smartphone and tablets into more innovative computer systems

I read a few articles that mention Google's @home. Moto Mobility also makes cable boxes and some home automation stuff too...

this deal may have a much deeper meaning..... Google could have acquired more than just a bunch of patents to defend itself

This should make it more difficult for Apple to sue. How does Apple sue Motorola who made the 1st ever mobile cellular phone? But Apple were already trying- for the Xoom. I'm sure Moto is working on a counter-suit.
Well, after this transaction, it will no longer Motorola who made the first cellphone- it will be Google lol.
But then Apple has never explicitly gone after Google but the OEMs. How the OEMs use the recent turn of events to their favor, will be very important.

What this does I think is link the hardware of Moto to the software of Google. It also gives Google the patents that Moto holds in the constant lawsuit world of Apple lawyers.
I don't think that this means Sammy has to push bada, if anythng it means Sammy has a much stronger friend in the Android platform, to make their hardware fly off the shelves.
Android (Rocky Balboa) is training for their fight against Apple ( Apollo Creed) and they just got a call from Roger Clemens and got in contact with his HGH dealer. Now we know what happened in those movies, lets watch it happen again. LOL

I agree, however I think its more like Rocky vs. Ivan Drago, and Rocky just found a secret lab underneath the meat-packing plant that makes robot Ivan drogos that are programmed to kick russian ass across the soviet tundra. Just my thought on that anyways.

This is epic and I am ready for the show because if this goes through Steve Jobs is going to have a major cow! I think now is time to start investing in some stock! Google, RIM, and Nokia. I have my reasons for the other two...

If you knew the legal battles ahead for RIM, I would take them off your list.

This is a very smart move by google but they say it will increase competion. It won't because moto isn't going to make any windows phones any more. Also, though I doubt it will happen, google might be like apple and use only google hardware and google software which would mean goodbye htc, lg, Sony e, and the other phone makers and their android overlays

Um... okay, first of all, Motorola hasn't made a new Windows Mobile handset since, like, 2008. They were out of that game since before they embraced Android.

Also, Google has stated its primary reason for doing this is to protect ALL of its manufacturers from competitors' patent Doom Fleet.

Yes, fanboys abound here. Its a good thing though, brand loyalty is nearly dead in every other market. If you like a company like Google for its open source ideals, or Apple because they figured out how to put an "i" in front of a product name, go ahead and like it.
