Google blocking Windows Phone from maps.google.com

0. phoneArena 04 Jan 2013, 17:15 posted on

Google refuses to build some of its apps for Windows Phone models, like YouTube for instance, but now the Mountain View based tech titan has taken things a step farther by blocking Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 users from accessing its maps.google.com web site; even if your phone's browser is set to desktop, trying to load the site will result in you being re-directed to Google's mobile search page...

if you are fine w/o Google that's your business. And remember to tell that to MS so they stop demanding Google's services.

Well i am not actually talking about gmaps, i couldnt care less. I am talking about youtube, which google did not make they bought it, and then restricted acess to wp users, this my friend is illegal in most countries.
How would android users feel if msoft blocked skype usage on android phones? instead msoft is pushing updates to android tablets which make the service even better at no charge.

Google does not restrict WP access to Youtube, you can use it on browsers I guess.

I don't use Skype but I think MS makes money off Skype. I think MS has the right to withdraw Skype from Android, that will make many people unhappy but that's MS right.

MS makes Skype and read-only Office available on Android only to serve MS business and not b-c of some kind of goodwill to Android users.

I think if Skype leaves Android its replacements will appear in no time and will surpass Skype very quickly.

MS is a predator and now it plays the role of victim. where is Netscape now? and many other big ideas that were stolen or strangled by MS dirty tricks.

WP is a near death platform and survives only on MS life support.

Too bad MS cannot rely on their monopolistic power here.

There's something deeper here. How do we know Google is the culprit? What is their motivation if they are?

I'm sorry but when people ask that microsoft put limitation on what we the consumer can do with the OS they are clearly not trying make a logical argument and just trolling. It's google's product and they can support who they wish but I'm betting that when windows has more than 2% of the market they will consider it.

Nice Update....

But (read on Gizmodo - and in your comments section below...)

The reason is Google maps is designed for Webkit-based browsers. IE mobile is not such a browser.

Too many anti Google people in here, I wonder why Google doesn't support MS OS...perhaps it's because Google maps for mobile never supported IE. Perhaps MS should use WebKit to build IE and not their proprietary software. MS does not support open source which WebKit is part of the community of open source, of course MS defense force will say Google is blocking MS...Google likes money and advertising means dollars so blocking there stuff on Windows OS is dumb.
I don't even use IE, haven't in ages because it's spyware heaven, so I tend to use different browsers Firefox, Chrome and others.

You're joking about IE, right? It's current and recent (8+) iterations are among the most secure and stable browsers available. Safari and Firefox are like Swiss cheese in comparison.

Google provides a much more comprehensive, easy to use, and state of the art OS for users to manage than WP ever will. Microsoft is competition, yes, but it isn't Google's biggest concern. Google is sticking it to Microsoft for constantly and never missing a chance to talk s**t about Google. Not even ios talks as much crap about Google or anybody for that matter like Microsoft. Google-Android is an open OS, but Microsoft got it f**ked up when they thought that after all the trouble that they've caused with accusations of antitrust, they Google would just roll over and be begging to offer their apps to WP. Yeah... That's what kind of mentality you have when your head is shoved far up your ass.lol

I don't understand whats the big deal?!
Google is going to benefit if more people use their services..
And they are fighting with the "fruit company" over many issues...still they support their platform...

People are suffering because of this "so-called" rivalry..
I have always viewed Google as a company that cared more about users than some bulls**t rivalry..
and considering Google technical capabilities, supporting another browser engine should be a piece of cake for them...anyways the desktop version supports the Trident engine..

only aim of google is to destroy competetion no matter what is costs and others have done it in past too. but google looks to go beyond just destroying others they are looking for total control of market with no other competetor left which is extemlely bad for moblie future

this is all because they cant provide good enough services like others do crapy thing from them so make it open so other fanboys and pros can fix them outside the company while apple and MS are busy making a full service from their own company google cant run very far with this style , first make crap then say its free to use and to debug and u can fix it your self

If google refuses to support windows phone Microsoft should block access To google on windows, if that's not possible than they should block it on ie

Not just Nokia Apps, the native WP maps program is good too.. Actually to be honest, other than the downloading for off network use. I find the MS version better.
