Google has reported its earnings for Q4 of 2012, and the numbers keep going up. During the quarterly earnings call today, Google announced a total of $14.4 billion in revenue, and $1.51 billion for Motorola in Q4 2012. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to figure out where Android fits into the numbers...

Advertising revenue. I doubt they make anything off their devices.

You are unhappy about Android fans in Apple articles, but as Apple fan you still like articles about Google. :D

Google doesn't try to eat the pie right now, they are trying to make it bigger (Schmidt said that not me)
So GG is investing in sound business structures and not aiming for quick profits. Amazon has the same strategy while Apple has the opposite.

Why just because apple sells it at criminally high margins?

Why are you hating on his comment? I understand he's one of the biggest apple fans here but he's right. Google doesn't aim for device profit, they make all their money from ads. I don't really see anything wrong with that, means more affordable tech for us!

They provide excellence map, email, search and media for free and yet manage such a profitable business while not even taken a single cent from the consumer.
To me that really amazing.

"...while not even taken a single cent from the consumer."
Isn't person or company who orders advertisement facilities form Google called a consumer?

come on guys, we all know what joey means and he is right.

This is true, but as an advertiser, I can say they bring me an amazing value for the price paid and no one else can come close to what they bring to the table.

But in someways they operate unfairly with how they favor search results. They did not want twitter and Facebook to be in the top ranks in searches. It's why they are facing antitrust regulations in Europe. Surprisingly they got off clean in the us.

I thought search engines rank web site depending on how much is spent by the company for that top spot. Pay more money get ranked first. Isn't that still how it is?
21. MeoCao (unregistered)
who define what that fairness is?
Do you think Apple walled garden is fair? Or Instagramm dropping Twitter? Or MS strangling Netscape?
Google ranks search results on relevance order and I think those who pay to appear on top of the list are certainly more relevant than those who don't.
If MS or Apple or Yahoo think the order should be by the cheapest first they can built their own search for it.
Users will decide which 1 is better.

So you are surprise that google is clean. That's something we don't get from an apple fan any day.

who cares - if you want to overpay for a smartphone, then, by all means, continue to purchase an Iphone.

Androidphone has ads in some apps, games. With all the Android users out there...I think they make some ad revenue from the devices.
The browser on Android phones? Most ppl might use the stock one. Big chance for ad revenue.

No doubt, nexus only give small profit so all goes to the manufacture. Google only need it to reach more customer for their service through android.

"We can't say for sure, because nowhere in the earnings report does Google ever mention Android, the Nexus hardware, or the Play Store."
I wonder why Google didn't include that? Maybe they don't have to? I wonder what the IRS and/or the SEC has to say about that?

Android is freely given and that why Apple pick hardware manufacturer as a target to sue.
Sueing Google Android is like goverment trying to tax on your donation.

Another point i want to bring up is both windows and apple users want to use their google services. For apple case, its proven they are lost without google map.
To all google hater, stop bitching about them. Just stop using their services. That's only way you could hurt them. I stop buying apple and microsoft product for some time.
It feels bloody Good!

Google does not make a single android device. They do however have a partner making devices for them which maybe sold through their site. Not necessary for them to mention android.

I think this only limits the revenue announcement to Google, Inc. (so that should include Android, Nexus and Play Store) and Motorola Mobility. Otherwise they wouldn't list them separately. So they're probably missing the revenue from Youtube, AdMob, DoubleClick and etc. Just my guess.

Numbers are up for Motorola, because they basically fired all the workers...only a shell of the company is left now

I'm about done with Google. They are becoming just like Apple. As far as values go. Do no evil my ass. Their movies & tv app benefits no1 (especially the consumer) But the entertainment industry. Rooted phones not supported. Launching phones & tabs (lg nexus & nexus 10) with apathetic amount of storage for ddevices with no sd card. Now I have 2 have a Google + account to even rate a app. Among many other things that go against everything Google claims to stand for. At least Jobs never pretended 2 not be a dueshe. I have been loyal to them for over 3 years. While waiting for a decent os. & invested a large amount of money in their convoluted eco system. I don't plan on buying another product from them ever. Also tired of so many people in the tech community making excuses for everything Google does.

Please allow me to give you and the rest of you Google haters, a quick and frighten history lesson; prior to Google and Android we had a choice between-
High price/margin Apple
Subpar/ freeze up/battery pulling Window 6.xxx
Boring- no color screen-professional BB
Please choose your phone from the above list!.
Android usher in multi-cores/large screens, so before you and your buddies go all out blasting Google, maybe you need to think about life prior to Google getting into the mobile phone business.

Not saying they haven't advanced the industry in the past. But going forward, they seem to be morphing into a company that does more harm than good. & they no longer give a damn about the users who got them where they are today
24. jroc74 (Posts: 5980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
They had a decent OS when the Droid 1 launched. It got better over the years.
Yea some things have changed. Its to benefit Google and their services. At the end of the day...they are a company trying to continue to grow and prosper..
I already had Google+...but I dont rate apps anymore. Compared to what other companies do to try to get over on their users....thats a small thing. They must have did that to try to help Google+ grow.
Rooted phones not being supported for movies from the Store? Its gotta be pressure from the entertainment industry. Who would I cater to more.....the root and ROM community....or the folks that provide me with the media to sell in the Play Store?

Nexus hardware profit all goes to Asus, LG or Samsung. Google only use nexus to deliver their service to more consumer. So android profit include in site
