Google and LG officially announce the LG Nexus 4

0. phoneArena 29 Oct 2012, 11:27 posted on

The weather may have cancelled Google's event, but that doesn't mean that the announcement of the new Nexus device would be stopped. We're less than an hour away from Microsoft's own event, and Google and LG have officially announced the LG Nexus 4...

I wouldn't jump so quickly. If the report is correct on no LTE, this phone is worthless on VZW and Sprint. It is viable on TMO and ATT. However, many consumers want LTE if available.

Well its a GSM phone so it already doesn't run on sprint. Secondly it will likely come with come in another version but with LTE and 32 GB this release is no different than last year, the galaxy nexus was released with 16 GB and HSPA+ only on the play store Verizon came out with a 32 gb LTE version. I would expect the same thing to happen here but i wouldn't expect a release for at least a month after, and expect a heavier price tag like 550 or 600. Which I would pay without blinking for a Nexus phone. This is just a guess on what we will see.

Most people have no idea of the differences between LTE and HSPA+. They just blindly follow adversiting.
In reality as proven by multiple national tests, the speeds are about the same.

There may/will most likely be a CDMA variant at some point. Rumor has it that google is pissed at VZW for their slow updates of the G-Nex, so maybe not though.

Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor with 1.5GHz Quad-Core Krait CPUs - Good! :)

Operating System: Android 4.2, Jelly Bean - Good! :)

Display: 4.7-inch WXGA True HD IPS Plus (1280 x 768 pixels) - Good! :)

Memory: 8GB / 16GB - Too small capacity! :(

RAM: 2GB - Good! :)

Camera: 8.0MP rear / 1.3MP HD front - 8MP is enough but for some reasons I feel that quality will be not very well! :\

Battery: 2,100mAh Li-Polymer - Capacity isn't very big but this battery should have good lifespan! :)

Other: Wireless charging - Useless! :(

Other: NFC - Good! :)

What you will do with your cloud if there is no internet access?

What you will do with your cloud if internet access is restricted at the place you are?

What you will do with your cloud if signal is weak?

What you will do with your cloud if internet traffic cost too much?

What you will do with your cloud if internet is too slow?

Also remember that when you are using internet battery drains faster!

Cloud may be a good thing but at the moment it can't replace main storage...

buddy I live in the Middle East where all the factors you mentioned above do not really apply here so I am good to go:)
And if you haven't noticed then start that the evolution of tech is such that in future specs will not decide a better device but it'll be the cloud integration and compatibility of the device that'll make or break it!

Bingo.

Cloud storage is a nice idea and all, but we're in an age where flash storage just gets cheaper and cheaper, while mobile data gets more and more expensive.

At the very least, Google should have offered a 32GB model.

the Pro isn't crap but it's no 5250 either. even Matias Duarte said the only thing capable of powering the Nexus 10 was the 5250 but does it matter if you're getting a Pro for $350 off contract? even Galaxy Nexuses with OMAP4's were selling at the $350 off contract price point.

lol, I've been wondering where you've been Darac.

I've said this whole time that the Krait Quad Pro with Adreno 320 GPU is a very solid chip... which is the exact opposite of how I very vocally feel about the rest of the Krait/crapdragon line up.

Besides, at $350, how the hell do you say no?? I was ready to drop 650 on the note2 to get the hardware I wanted. Its the same class of hardware for half the price. Lets not forget to mention that my least favorite part of the Note2 was the size.. the N4 fixes that issue.

Its no Exynos 5 dual, but I might end up with a nexus10 shortly down the road as well, so I'll have an E5 anyways. :)

With the money I'm saving by not buying the Note2, I can literally buy both the N4 and N10. I'll sell my LG Gslate for close to 300 bux to some fool and get most of my money back. :)

We all know I'm a chip/tech snob from hell. There is just too much bang for buck for even me to turn my nose at. It may be missing an SD card and removable battery, but other than that, its a near perfect set up for a power user.. at half the cost of the ONLY competition in town at the ultra high end, the Note2.

Gonna miss the Note2's battery life potential though. That 3200mah battery sure got my attention.

to keep the pricing down.
They would flip the industry on its head and piss off a lot of partners if they offered a 64gb version for like $400. All that "50-100" per memory upgrade BS would start to fade away.. we cant have that now can we.

No LTE?!? That is heartbreaking if true. I have been getting my hopes up for this device for a month but this makes it worthless on VZW and thus to me. Maybe LTE was a deal-breaker on offering it so cheap off contract.

It means things will just work, if they don't, they get updated, means smooth operations, reliabiy and peace of mind. I have owned about 30 Android phones and I have to say the GNexus phone is the first time I've ever had an almost completely satisfying Android phone that kept my interest for more than 3-6 months, except for the camera which did the job, but kept me wanting more. With other skinned Androids it's always been maybe the Bluetooth doesn't work correctly, Wi-Fi isn't that great or certain apps don't work on the phone, just little tiny things like on HTC 1X, if you set the phone to tell you not to notify you about Wi-Fi locations, it still does. The Bluetooth distance is also horrible, don't even get started on S3 TouchWiz. Just little things like that that are annoying with skinned phones, there's always something, even if it's tiny. With the Nexus it just seems like things just work and get addressed quickly. Also is very nice to not have to have carrier apps forced on you.
