Google Sync for BlackBerry and mobile web app for Google Talk going the way of the buffalo
Google announced in a blog post this week that it is doing a bit of spring-cleaning. Two of the items that are scheduled to make a departure are Google Sync for BlackBerry and the mobile web app for Google Talk.

Support for Google Sync for BlackBerry will end on June 1, 2012. The app will continue to work, but will not be available for download anymore. Google recommends Google Sync for BlackBerry users to switch to BlackBerry Internet Service or the Google Apps Connector for Blackberry Enterprise Server.

The mobile web app for Google Talk is being shut down completely. For current users of this service, Google recommends downloading the native Google Talk app on Android or any XMPP-compliant apps on other mobile platforms.

Shouldn't the headline refer to dodos or another extinct animal, rather than the buffalo, which, while severely reduced in number, aren't extinct?

This has not been a necessary function on a BlackBerry in almost a year now. You can sync your calendar through BIS...
