Purchase of a $25 Google Play card let to a successful redemption

Last week, evidence was discovered that Google Play gift cards were going to be made available to certain stores for use in purchasing games, music, video or premium apps. It looks like distribution of the cards has started as a Target shopper was able to reach into a bin near the cash registers and pull out a $25 Google Play gift card before they were supposed to go on sale. The card was successfully redeemed by Android Police, so it shouldn't be too long before the cards are officially on the rack and ready to go.

Besides Target, it looks like Radio Shack will also be offering the Google Play gift cards according to an anonymous Shack employee and a leaked promotional flyer. Based on a screenshot of Radio Shack inventory, it would appear that the cards will be available in $10, $25 and $50 denominations. Just the thing to get for your mobile video game playing friend's birthday.

I wouldn't have done that if I were you Google. Apple's gonna come after you for infringing on their iTunes gift card patents. lol SMH

I am so sick of every coment section somebody saying apple is going to sue this for that not because it's becoming a cliche but because it's retardidly ( think I just made that word up) true.

Nah fast card did but apple bought em..... Really get serious even radioshack sales there own branded gift cards if Apple sue for somthing like this I will never look into another apple product.... I doubt that will happen though but who knows apple seems to be bother by everything that was previously invented by others and than patented by them, whether it was in the public domain or no patented because the company felt it to generic..

its amazing that these will be available. less amazing is how info like this still continues to leak out after three years worth of new measures were put in place to protect confidential info like this from leaking out. No wonder RS is in the sh*tter with their last two quarters.

They'll be alright I'm sure. Either they get acquired by best buy or successfully managed to transform themselves into the biggest wireless distributor they want to be. Either way it seems like one of those 2 things are going to happen..... If not a better one.

Dude, just once in your lifetime, atleast legally download the apps the developer made available on your platform.

Guys why is my Play Store not updating to the latest version? Mine is v 3.7.15

10. Savage posted on 19 Aug 2012, 05:21 1

You can try downloading the 3.8.15 version apk but it probably won't do any good. I tried and it wouldn't download any apps.

I'm guessing the update is mainly due to Google Play Store's gift's cards and unless they are made available in your region, the update won't come.
