Google Play celebrates its own 1st birthday

0. phoneArena posted on 05 Mar 2013, 20:12

One year ago, Google flipped the switch and rebranded the Android Market to the Google Play Store. We all had a bit of fun with the name, but the service has turned out to be pretty amazing. And now, Google is having a bit of a party to celebrate the Play Store's 1st birthday with some deals...

This is first of all a weak sale at best. Secondly getting rid of the Android Market was a huge hit for the Android Brand as a whole. Plus the name "Play Store" is stupid considering it has things other than for Play. Not an iOS fan at all but at least Apple does it right with the App Store. Classy name and sales that mean something.

Yeah right, YOU are definitely not an iOS fan.....you sound more like a rabid isheep to me... classy? lmao

I have a Nexus 4 and a Transformer Prime. My last 2 phones before this one were Android. I will always prefer the ability to do what I want with Android. I just prefer the branding of the app store to the Play Store.

I agree. Play Store seems too corny. They should have left it as the Android Market. At least the name makes sense.

Im not a huge Android fan but I for one enjoyed the change. The Play Store seems far easier on the eyes. The name "Android Market" was bland at best. Changing it was a very good idea.

I still get a laugh when someone buys an older Android model (usually on prepaid) that still has the Android Market on it due to no updates yet ^_^

How surprising. Mxyzptik thinks Google did something wrong.

Mxyzptlk way of thinking - "Only Apple do right and Whole Universe do wrong."

One more thing

Why Apple use Appstore name, they can use iStore name. it make more sense, isn't it.

7. Mightymack posted on 05 Mar 2013, 22:29 3

The only things that you dont "play" are books and magazines...so the name is still pretty much valid....plus, who the hell cares??

The name is fine.

It seems like people find new things to complain about everyday.

Android fan and completely agree with causti. It's a stupid name and I said it from day 1. It sounds like the Android store is affiliated with playstation. Plus the sale does suck compared the 10 cent and 25 cent sales of not so long ago. I used to buy every single app they offered during those sales just cause of how cheap it was. Now it seems like a sponsored sale.

Blindly calling someone an isheep merely cause they have an opinion makes you worse than isheep because you are also a hypocrite.
