Google Nexus S introduced, curved screen and all

0. phoneArena 06 Dec 2010, 11:07 posted on

Seems like Andy Rubin, Google VP of Engineering, head of Android, couldn't keep the secret anymore, as he single-handedly announced the Google Nexus S (and Gingerbread) on the company's official blog...

Looking good !!! Now we need a 4G CDMA version

A 4G CDMA version would mean that Sprint would be the only service provider, if the bands allow it. A 4G LTE compatible with a CDMA chip would make it compatible with Verizon, if the bands allow it, and HSPA+ would make it capable of even greater speeds.

LTE will be faster than HSPA+ in virtually all real world situations. TMo's speed claims come from their own tests, which we could easily say are done under the least network strain possible to amp up their numbers.

HSPA+ is faster as of now... even LTE is there because they dont push LTE to the limits... they are careful of bringing it fully blown because the cost is fully blown also. but LTE has higher bandwidth but slower speed... HSPA+ has faster speed but lower bandwidth

Android 2.3, and the Nexus S, is being announced just as Samsung is starting to roll out their Android 2.2 update to their Galaxy devices.

Also support for HSPA+ should've been put into the device as well. As of right now, the Nexus S is only a Galaxy S device that runs pure Android 2.3.

This looks like a Palm/HP phone. It's even got the ergonomic design. About time somebody took a page from their book.

Thats like saying ferrari should take a page out of Kia's book. Every phone Palm has made since the last Treo has been a financial failure, hence why HP owns them now.

big disappointment, my wait for a phone with a dual core chip continues, was hoping for 1080p recording, but looking more like february hopefully.
then again they need to make games on the devices which need such power to play them, maybe one day we can play gran tourismo in 1080p from the palm of my hands, but until then phones like these seem very similar and not really an improvement. :(

i think they just wanted to make a phone that looks good, that has hardware that has already gone through trial and error, so you know it'll work, and a device that has ideal specs for developing. if anything, those specs would make me feel more comfortable about buying it.

I would definitely get this phone. But sadly I am not because it is going to be on T-Mobile's network :-(

Us Kurt's think alike. I was so pumped for today to come and had been researching all the apps I would be putting on my first android device. Can't believe there is no expandable memory and really wish there was a dual core. Could live with the camera.

well i was expecting a bit more, the Nexus One had one of the fist 1Ghz possessors, it was a hardware feature everyone was looking for, so i was expecting the Nexus S to come with something a bit over the edge of technology.

same processor speed, same camera performace as the nexus 1. i really dont see the android 2.3 as any kind of revisioning of the platform- just some minor tweaks. i'll be waiting for an 8+ MP camera with 1080p, dual chip processor, on a verizon 4g phone (and i dont think the wait will be any longer than 6 months or so

I'm calling mid to late Febuary on VZW 4G. They should have enough nationwide coverage by then to release the devices.

Its time to upgrade my nexus one.

But is there really no SD Card slot (under the cover)? They dont have to include/bundle a SD Card -- but a slot should be there for expansion and easy side loading!

Also, I hope it has dual-mics for noise cancellation.

Lets not take a step backward -- please include things from nexus one and add to it!

I am so disappointed with this phone! I was ready to sell my Nexus 1 and add a few bucks to get the Nexus S. Basically its an all touch epic.... minus the 4 g!!! ..... Come on!!! what happen to dual core?? 2.3 is gonna come out on my phone anyday now. and no HSPA+!!! No HDMI out, and please tell me that there is expandable memory! 16 gigs does not compare to the 32 I can get on the nexus one... WTF Google! DO Better! u just made a Android I Phone!!!

Whats up with the wining!! The main reason for this phone is as they said at the beginning of the video....a PURE ANDROID EXPERIENCE as well as being able to get the latest "STOCK" OS for the phone! For that reason...it'S enough for me! There are not many Manufactures releasing any Android model with STOCK Android OS anymore cause they dont want you to root it! Again, for that reason alone it'S enough! Did you NOT hear that the Nexus One is still getting Android 2.3?? One more thing DO you actually think that they will release an Android Phone without a SD card slot??? C'mon get a clue! I think for what they wanted to do, as far as show the speed of the OS and show any new features, I think they did an excellent job! If you want all that Dual-Core processor, 1080P recording, etc....then wait for the other companies to bring out Their own versions! I don't think its fair to shit on a Software based Company because the didnt release what you wanted. Google is Software not Hardware! If anything get on Samsung! Way to go Google...done it again!

So do you think its a great idea to put a lamborghini engine inm the body of a honda civic??

Of course its not. The functionality of a good operating system is only as good as its hardware. People would like pure android on a phone that has enough memory to hold all their music, pictures, and app. They want speed for web browsing, and a great camera.

Negatives:

Made by Samsung = You gotta be fekking kidding me NOOOOooooo!!!
Curved screen = Dont leave it in your back pocket & fekking sit on it!!
Glossy case = Scratches galore & fingerprint magnet
512Mb Ram = Why not 768Mb????
1Ghz Single Core CPU = Thats Just Dumb.. Anyone in their right mind will wait for Dual Core..

Positives:

Gingerbread = yum...

ITs not a Desktop its a Phone!! If you owned any kind of 1GHz phone you wouldnt put any retarded statment like its dumb to have a single core processor! 768MB....really dude!

what's wrong with the screen? If you sit on your phone your just stupid. try a chair or a couch or something.. don't sit on your phone! 512ram hmm ok htc has a 768 phone, but just one. the 1Ghz from samsung is the one fastest in the business. ok the Omap on 1.2 is faster but hey samsung don't make them. The rest is partually true

Dude did you watch the video? Google collaborated closely with samsung, so how can you blame samsung alone?

It has expendable memory up to 32 GB its similar to a Galaxy S except for the curved screen, front facing camera, flash and new OS. You guys lack reading comprehension to not understand something so simple. 1 Ghz processors are fast enough though I'm also gonna wait for dual core but great phone
