Took me about 5x of downloading and 3x of restarting my phone inorder for this to download and fully install. I cannot do the 3d maps and it still loads blocks like it used to. Not too happy with it, but it is a little bit faster. Sprint HTC Hero 2.1

Gotta step it up to a new gen. android. it downloaded in less than 2 mins. and no phone restart. for the 3D portion it does say within the program that 3D rendering is only available while in select cities (which sucks) but still. works fine for me.

outside the US? not in 4 top carriers? custom rom? you may want to try using market enabler i used it outside the US and found it no problem.
also clean market cache and uninstall the latest updates you had from the maps app and will download in one shot and run flawlessly
