As we become evermore reliant on our smartphones for productivity, entertainment and communication, endurance is a primary consideration to most. Having a multitude of features at a swipe's notice is only useful if the lights are on and as such, many OEMs have placed battery retention atop the feature list. Gionee's upcoming M2017 looks set to provide the usual assortment of internal clout, and for those seeking a superior juice pack, the purported 7000 mAh battery could give the handset a real edge on competitors. With an unveiling apparently in sight, a teaser of the M2017 has been  spotted in the wild.

7000 mAh isn't just a slight jump on conventional smartphone batteries -- it's a massive increase. In actual fact, it's more fuel than a number of the market's foremost tablets, including the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. But while the M2017 will surely be able to run for a full day and then some, it seemingly won't compromise other features as a number of battery-focused devices tend to.

According the handset's TENAA certfification, the M2017 will be blessed with a 5.7-inch quad-HD display, 1.95 GHz MediaTek Helio P10 SoC and an agreeable 6 gigs of RAM. There will also be 128 GB of on-board real estate, a 12 and 13-megapixel rear duo camera setup with an 8-megapixel selfie snapper, and Google's Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

One might expect such an on-paper monster to be considerably heavier than its peers, but not so with the Gionee M2017. Sure, at just over 10 mm thick and weighing in at 230 grams, it's definitely bulkier than the likes of the iPhone 7 Plus (7.3 mm, 188 grams) and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (7.7 mm, 157 grams). Nevertheless, for those happy to forgo a svelte finish in favor of longevity, the Gionee M2017 could be a real prospect.

There's no word on when the handset will become official, but the emergence of the teaser suggests it'll be sooner rather than later. The model number also backs this up, though don't be surprised if Gionee comes up with a more marketable moniker for the device once it does take its bow.
