Well shit! After all the talk of each Android phone only getting one update ever, I'm taking this as a more than pleasant surprise. I'm debating whether or not to go ahead and try the unofficial release, though I'm sure the official one can't be too far behind.

Already rooted! I'm still running the unrooted version until I get home tonight to SBF to .340. BUT, I will go as far as to say I will not be replacing the launcher any time soon. Blur is actually really, really useable with the new update.
Good work on this update Moto. Now about that bootloader....

the new interface is looking pretty good and functional too, i'll be torn choosing between it and GO Launcher EX that i've grown so attached to.
i'll have to re-root my Droid 2 before i receive the OTA update won't i?

Yes. You'll probably have to flash to recovery so they'll push you the update. Otherwise they wont see you're on the right software to push it.
Or you guys could just do yourself a favor and get an incredible and have Gingerbread with Sense UI 2.0....
cant be beaten.

The magic word is Gingerbread, not Froyo. Froyo is 2.2, which is the current release for the X and D2. GB, Gingerbread is not yet released, but is leaked.
That said, just for the benefit of performance improvement alone, the leak is awesome.
It sounds like you are very new to the smartphone and Android arena. If you want to do the updates, they are great. But I'd advise you to read up and learn. You have to be comfortable with possibly killing your phone, and NOT having it covered under warranty.

it's nobody's fault but your own. you take that risk when you dive into the hacking/modding community.

I just received my refurb droid x today and it came loaded with 2.3. I was very surprised and excited! It must be close to launch, like any day, so clearly vz didn't reject software as read in another forum...
