Gingerbread ported to the HTC Droid Incredible

Over at XDA-Developers they have a working version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, running on Verizon's HTC Droid Incredible. The performance seems extremely smooth, but there is still some work to be done to enable the camcorder, and the GPS functionalities.

If a single developer can achieve this for a day or two, we can't help but wonder shouldn't the testing procedures at the big US carriers loosen up a bit to allow faster rollout of these important Android updates? Or, maybe, it is precisely because they know that the folks at XDA-Devs will quickly throw together a working solution for everyone who doesn't mind tinkering with their phones, and they are taking their sweet time testing an official update over and over.
