The first patent for a system that recognized handwritten characters by analyzing the handwriting motion was granted in 1915.[2] The first publicly-demonstrated system using a tablet and handwriting text recognition instead of a keyboard for working with a modern digital computer dates to 1956.[3]

In addition to many academic and research systems, there were several companies with commercial products in the 1980s: Pencept, Communications Intelligence Corporation, and Linus were among the best known of a crowded field. Later, GO Corp. brought out the PenPoint OS operating system for a tablet computer product: one of the patents from GO corporation was the subject of recent infringement lawsuit concerning the Tablet PC operating system.[4]

Let Apple sit on that and spin

Hey darthball. Read the title of the article again. Apple won (for now). Instead of wasting your time insisting on your denial and copying and pasting stuff on here. Why don't you offer your legal expertise and services to Samsung and go to Germany and appeal this decision yourself, lol.

as you say apple won for now and know one can say they have not but this is not a conclusive decision like taco etc are going on in the comment section,as the article says that samsung will have an opportunity to overturn the decision so the case is not over...i think what annoys me especially is when people like taco think everything they say is right and just wont accept anything else regardless of if there is any truth...you just have to go back and read some comment from the articles about the law suit the Dutch court and you would see how they will say one thing when its in apple favour and when its not they say another thing..every blog site was saying that even though appke won one patent but it was still a loss for them...people like taco will be like hey wins a win regardless of looking at the big pic...

How come the HP Touchpad isnt involved in any lawsuits with Apple?

Thats right, cuz they dont see HP or the Touchpad as a threat.

Apple is full of...compost. lol (dont sue me ilia1986...that was funny.)

Its obvious they are suing samsung cause they are scared...if it was about patent infringement. Then why did they not Sue when the first galaxy a device was announced and not when they actually started selling in millions?

Hahahaha, now android fanboys' weekend is ruined, hahahaha.

What were you android fanboys saying a few days ago? That Apple didn't win anything. That Apple is this and that. And that we Apple users don't know how to read and understand the articles. What was that again android fanboys? I bet you guys already forgot what you've posted, lol. Oh well, a lot of times you guys don't. You guys just blurt out any hateful words against Apple and its users, and when you guys are proven wrong, you guys just act like you didn't say anything, and start coming up again with silly assumptions that the court is this and that, hahahahaha.

God do you have a brain at all? You know in the Dutch court case Apple lost all of there design case right? You know that they lost 9 out of 10 patient right? You know that both are part of the EU right? That mean that you can't have two different ruling on the same law sue right. So let see what happen because the Dutch court said that apple design are too basic to have protection, you clown. Unlike you I read more then one source of new and can think for myself, and I don't even like Samsung.

@ngo2. Yes, I do have a working brain. And it tells me that when Apple loses, then Apple loses. And when Apple wins, Apple wins. Your android fanboy brain however, only sees Apple lost, even when Apple won, lol

The court made a decision to permanently ban the galaxy tab, yet you're still saying that is not the case, lol. It can be overturned, but AS OF NOW, Apple won, yet you still insist that Apple lost, lol. You've lost it, hahahahaha.

Apple won in Germany you are right. But what did they win? Will Samsung fold, no, will they leave the tablet market, no will they continue to manufacture chipsets and other components of Apple products, who knows.

wow is like saying you are an idiot.. we all you are but is has not been medical proven.... remember is an example..... anything that resembles real life is pure coincidence..... Apple so far is winning so at least they are not that crazy for suing...right?...

if you win this argument?.. what did you really win?... there is you homework for the weekend... 8ball

@darthball. What did Apple win? The case silly? And the galaxy tab has been permanently banned as a result of that victory, until the decision is overturned, IF Samsung presents strong evidence in their appeal, which is doubtful. It's hard to overturn a PERMANENT decision by the court. They lose their credibility if they do that.

That was a beautiful sequence of responses. ;)

To all three of you, I really have nothing to say. You all patting each other on the back won't make any of you any more right, or liked, or respected, or more intelligent.

All three of you are petty pieces of crap, and I feel degraded each time I feel the necessity of responding to any of you. It's a tiresome and fruitless venture, way beneath the kind of discussions any normal person should have.

i dont mind most days.. its kind of like playing "Dunk the clown". The clown sits there and says mindless dribble to get a rise out of you.. they you throw your ball (of knowledge) at them and watch them flop in the water. The idiot clown gets right back up and starts the process all over again like nothing happened.

I'm really disappointed with Apple as a company, and will probably stop buying their products. All this never ending court battles are just emphasizing how insecure they are about their market share, and not really concerned on what matters the most: continuous innovation and improvement of their products. Bunch of hypocrites, they're not even the first tablet maker!

As far as I'm concerned the first tablet that I ever owned was the HP Compaq TC1000 followed by the HP Compaq TC1100 way back in 2003-04. Which from the design, is pretty similar to the Apple iPad (Whose name was "GASP!" probably copied from the HP iPAQ!).

Look at the TC1100 and tell me that Apple was the first to make that design (especially when in it's slate mode), for that matter the grid like icon design of Apple iPhone and iPad, was first made, not by Apple but by Nokia.

The funny thing about you apple fanboys is that you guys can be so full of yourselves sometimes. All you isheep say that apple is better than android. But is it even able to beat symbian which nokia is abandoning ?

let's see:
1. Multitasking. No matter what you say, Until IOS5 comes out, apple won't have true multitasking in its bag.
2. Hardware that will last after dropping it a few times. I know for a fact that when you drop the iphone 4 it cracks. I don't think you'd want that.
3. Homescreens. Even nokia has customisable widgets now. Are the guys working on the software for the iphone mentally challenged?
4. Suing the bejesus out of every company. I guess apple gets a point here for being an asshole.
5. Expandable memory. lol......no comment.
6. Calling. Your dropped calls are a bit annoying isn't it? now you'll say that it can be rectified with a bumper case. Why would you want to cover your brand new sexy phone with fat rubber?
7. Fanboys. At least the nokia ones know that they don't have the best OS. They like nokia because of its functionality. But look at the miz, gemini and taco. They have lost it. Their OS sucks but the refuse to agree. I'd choose functionality over looks anyday. After all, when you buy a phone for so much, you expect to be able to use it to call. But i guess you isheep are too rich to bother.

@530gemini

Huh? What part of my post did it say that I was rooting for any of the phone operating systems? Just to be clear, I'm no fan boy; I buy what I like and that's it. I just decided to end my support for Apple because I don't like their bullying and heavy handed tactics. It's my right as a consumer to not buy products that I think will be detrimental to my future as a buyer, if Apple keeps on pursuing this campaign of intimidation, what other companies and products will be next?

I'd rather stand for the consumers right to choose, than keep on paying for overpriced products to a company that is trying to be only one in the market place.

Don't be such a fan boy, that you would be the willing lackey to only one company's products. Steve Jobs is not God, and iOS is not Manna from heaven.

I find it very surprising that you don't even own a phone, and only have a want to own (an iPad2) on your profile. I think it's very SAD that your slavish fanboyism is not even supported by reality. I mean how can you be a fan boy of a product you don't even own?! Now that's a LOL!
