German court ruling could force Google to make significant changes to Android

Now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google, Motorola Mobility has been found to have infringed on a Microsoft patent allowing for "multi-part messages between cellular devices using a standardized interface" and could force Google to make extreme modifications to Android...

If their operating system is just SO terrible, then why even bother using a computer? I personally don't mind Windows or Windows Phone, although I prefer an iPhone/HTC One X... Besides, no one can argue the fact that Windows Phone offers a great price for a high quality phone.

I can. They offer a decent price for a mediocre phone. & There are many Android phones that are the same price or cheaper than windows (especially if you consider the price of apps on windows) because they have been out for awile. I would take the Rezound, for instance over any POS restricted Windows model !

Chill out. I don't see why you're taking such offense to this. It's people like you who give fans of Android a bad name. Ignorant and constantly throwing out childish vulgarity. Geez.

Seems like both Apple and Microsoft are desparately trying to suppress Google (Android). From a business perspective it makes a lot of sense for both of them. But from the consumer perspective, it sucks.

In the past decade, Apple has enjoyed incredible growth. And they often times have done so at the expense and demise of competing companies. Simply put, they do not wish to COMPETE. They have deep pockets and resort to litigation to financially destroy their competition. After all, it is easy to dominate a market segment without any competition. And in this not all fault lies with Apple exclusively. The Patent Office seems to be freely granting patents on just about anything and everything these days. It is a miracle that any company can design and build anything without infringing on another's patent(s).

As for Microsoft, they have long enjoyed looking down on the commoners from afar without worry or concern. Alas, the I.T. infrastructure is evolving rapidly as demand continues to increase exponentially. Companies have always relied on Microsoft for their workstation platforms. And home users embrace the simple point and click wonders of Windows too. Microsoft even pentrated deep into the enterprise servers with their Server OS's. But then a funny thing came along and became a fad. It is a thing called virtualization. And VM-Ware is king is this realm. This essentially allows an administrator to take a physical system and configure it to run virtual machines. In lay terms, a single physical machine is configured and running as several servers. It is a huge cost cutting measures for companies. And it streamlines the administrative side too. Now is where it gets interesting. Microsoft makes a LOT of money off of licensing. And this whole virtualization thing throws a curve ball into the mix. And VM-Ware is competition after all. So now they come back and hit companies running VM-Ware with licensing fees per Windows workstation that connects to a VM server. Now, most corporate users have PC's as a tool to do their jobs. And the most common tasks include MS Office apps, internet browsers and interfaces, and some custom apps. Since the same OS that runs on smart phones can easily be adapted and used for tablets, why could it not also be adpated and used for workstations? You see, Android is open-source and FREE! Just think of the potential damage that could cause if this Android was adapted and deployed in the corporate setting. Do you not see the bottom line cost savings businesses might forsee with such a venture?

Only time will tell how it all plays out. But my guess would be that we have not yet seen the slumbering giant named Google fully awaken.

That's just rude. Google is a very well made company, who is already succeeding Microsoft in the mobile business. Instead of suing Google over the tiniest thing, why don't Apple and Microsoft just get some new, better products and good marketing, so people would be more persuaded to go to them? Apple makes good products, Microsoft makes good products, and Google makes good products. On the subject of patent infringement, everyone has stole something from someone at one point in time. Microsoft, Google, and Apple have all done it. And to sue for the same thing that you committed as well, is very much hypocritical. Though, in the business world, not being hypocritical is a VERY rare occurrence. My point, don't judge Google for something Apple and Microsoft have both done themselves.

Guess Phonearena is not a verry concise site. One time they put Florian's word as doubtfull (http://www.phonearena.com/news/Evidence-of-paid-anti-Google-bias-in-patent-news-coverage-is-troubling_id29278 ), and now they use him as a source?

to end lets quote a phrase of PA: "The problem isn't so much with one person's opinion, it's when that opinion is widely (and uncritically) reported as the unvarnished truth".

and of course M$ pays the courts to RULE OUT ANDROID in Germany. But Germany isn't M$ home court. At least Motorola gets a taste of victory against M$ for the Xbox 360. Google might as well leave any country that anyone tries to BAN ANDROID yes I'm talking to u APPLE & M$

That guy mueller is an idiot. All that has to be done is simply split up the messages instead of combining them. Easy. Germany bans stuff for the lamest of crap.

I hate things like this.. I love Microsoft Windows as a PC OS and I love Google's Android as a Mobile OS and also their services like mail, maps, search and many more.. never mind Apple.. I was never a fan of Apple anyway.. Hope this will be resolved soon and I hope things like this will be avoided in the future..
