Galaxy S5's stellar battery life might be due to Lucid Logic's battery saving tech
0. phoneArena 28 Feb 2014, 07:20 posted on
Remember Lucid Logic's battery-saving optimizations that we wrote about not long ago? At the time we mentioned that Samsung has inked a deal for implementing the PowerXtend battery saving algorithms in a yet-unknown device. Well, that mystery handset turns out to be none other than the Galaxy S5 flagship...

PHONEARENA! How do you know the battery life on S5 is as good as you state in the headline? Where are all the tests? It's one thing standing on a stage saying that, another to actually prove it.

Samsung is always great in bettery life so I have nothing to doubt about this report...

I know, I just react to statements that are just thrown out BEFORE actual facts are shown.

"So we can't wait to put the Galaxy S5 through our battery test, and see if these claims hold water."
36. UglyFrank (Posts: 333; Member since: 23 Jan 2014)
My S4 regularly gets 2 days of battery life.
24. jan25 (Posts: 383; Member since: 26 Feb 2012)
they did not say it is as good as stated. they specifically said "we can't wait to put the Galaxy S5 through our battery test, and see if these claims hold water." butt hurt fanboys everywhere.
32. Ashoaib (Posts: 1215; Member since: 15 Nov 2013)
They are reporting on what Samsung is claiming regardless of they put it through the test or not and I am accepting this report which is about samsung's claim... butthurt hater of Samsung...

Its a new technology adopted in S5 and acknowledged by Phonearena. They are only covering what is this new technology is and how it improves battery life, as claimed in S5... No need to get paranoid..
2. drunkenjay (Posts: 58; Member since: 11 Feb 2013)
now im confused on what to buy.. gs5 or xperia z2 12 hours of hd video playback vs 7 hours of hd video playback
11. livyatan (Posts: 657; Member since: 19 Jun 2013)
Wait for the reviews.
Plenty of time to decide..If S5 gets the upper hand in the battery endurance, if it gets a lower price tag, no one should blame you for picking it over the Z2

to sony fanbois:
don't judge a product before you even used it.
15. tech2 (Posts: 1782; Member since: 26 Oct 2012)
+1. Add to that the UltraPower Saving Mode which offers 24 hours on standby at 10% will blow the competition out of the water (even the waterproofs one) :P
18. phonebuzz (Posts: 1; Member since: 28 Feb 2014)
And to u ... Don't judge the s5's battery life before u have used it.
21. tech2 (Posts: 1782; Member since: 26 Oct 2012)
Its not rocket science to estimate the battery life is it ?!
Let me break it down to you:
GS4 had 69 hours of battery life.http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-i9505-galaxy-s4-battery-tests-update-battery-life-improved/
Now add to that
1. 200mah more
2. Ultra Power Saving Mode
3. and this new tech
25. limporgyuk (Posts: 135; Member since: 06 Nov 2013)
I think most of the judging has been done on the facts as we know them (little has been said about the battery).
and by the way I am a HTC One fanbois. But yeah the Samsung will probably have a great battery, well done - its something to show off about!
26. tech2 (Posts: 1782; Member since: 26 Oct 2012)
Z2>Ram. But is it needed?
Z2>camera. Not really. Higher resolution doesn't mean better camera. Note 3 with 13mp was better than 20mp on z1. Even some initial comparisons by PA showed gs5 had better images.
Z2>looks. That's subjective.
Z2> waterproof. Its only slightly better if you look at the IP codes. Ip5x protects against mild water jets and IP6x protects against big. That would hardly affect anyone in real life scenario. Also you forgot to mention gs5 has better dust protection.

Regardless of the battery, I wouldn't want a phone that displays everything like a cartoon. I can't stand the displays on the Samsung phones... Their phone displays have this cartoonish look to them.

Unlike, iPhone, Android screens are completely customizable. Every Galaxy user i know has a completely different looking pages on his/her phone.
I hated the way my Galaxy s3 pages looked straight out of the box either, so i changed it completely before day 1 with the phone is over :-)
8. milos (Posts: 38; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
battery life/replaceable battery is one of the 3 top features why i take Samsung. I never leave the house without a spare battery either in my wallet, or my backpack !
On the end of rhe day iPhone and HTC users end up tied up to a wall outlet with a charger cable, while i walk away with 100% full phone in my pocket :-)
beat that HTC/iPhone, and I might consider you!

Protection and longer battery life in one devices.
16. milos (Posts: 38; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
Thanks, but that type battery extension does not fit my pocket. Maybe iPhone. I like larger screen phones, so putting one of those battery cases would turn my Galaxy into a monster! Besides, it completely changes the shape and feel of the design.
Replaceable battery is like $14 also. way easier to carry as backup.
43. noteseries (Posts: 76; Member since: 29 Oct 2013)
thats made ur phone looks ugly, i love the phone as its original looks n feel
dont need that kind protection, its useless for me buy those expensive accesories, beside am gonna buy a flagship once every year
38. jexxx (Posts: 48; Member since: 23 Feb 2014)
That's what i mean by sony fanbois blinded in hate.
12. boblight (Posts: 77; Member since: 28 Jul 2012)
Hmm... Sounds interesting. Really hoping for a real test soon to test the claim !
19. jraza (Posts: 3; Member since: 27 Feb 2014)
Well article said battery extended due to "algorithms" it also said that they are waiting for a battery test that how these "algorithms" make effect to the claims.
Now a days battery becomes one of the key factors to having a good sale.

"2800 mAh battery, in a day and age when some phones get equipped with 3000+ mAh units, it is capable of 12 hours of video playback on a charge, and 10 hours of web browsing. "
So why not include a 3000+ mAh battery and have even better battery life.......they are going the way Apple. As long as it sells, no innovation on change is needed. Might as well call the S5 the S4s.
23. milos (Posts: 38; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
maybe because they traded the internal space availability for water proofing isolation/components. Cant have it both.
Besides, what is 200mA more going to give you. Maybe 1-2 hours more. I would give that up anytime to have phone dust/water resistant.
I say good move !
27. McLTE (Posts: 637; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
So the S5 potentially gets 50% better battery life and you're complaining?
Even if Samsung can show 25% increase in batt life, that's a huge success. This is WITHOUT new battery technology. How is that not something to be very excited about?
Some people will just never be happy.
28. TechFreak123 (Posts: 82; Member since: 25 Feb 2014)
Because you want your phone to be able to charge faster, not slower.
29. kaikuheadhunterz (Posts: 686; Member since: 18 Jul 2013)
Anyone planning to extract this for other users?
31. Android4Ever (Posts: 86; Member since: 12 Aug 2013)
Battery life is the main thing people have been complaining about ever since smartphones hit the scene. Now that Sammy is coming out with a high end smartphone, that will supposedly solve that problem, people are still hating. I just don't get it.
35. UglyFrank (Posts: 333; Member since: 23 Jan 2014)
+1 for you, besides the Note 3 everyone acts like everything Samsung do is bad. If/When they announce the F/P series, i'm sure all of the complaints will be put to rest as we can be sure that it will use that sleek patented design we have all seen before.
40. Taters (Posts: 2592; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
This is why Samsung devices sell. They just work really well. Not because everyone is brainwashed......
The amount of double standards and hating is hilarious actually...now the GS4 and GS5 had a few deal breakers that prevented me from buying them, HTC and Sony devices had way more serious deal breakers that the fanboys like to ignore.
Bottom line is, I would love to see how crappy this industry gets when Samsung stops pumping in 10 billion a year in R & D. Then maybe the haters will start shutting up..
41. elitewolverine (Posts: 1166; Member since: 28 Oct 2013)
Not about hate at all, it is called choice. competition has forced samsung to do more as samsung has forced others. Do you think the s5 would have been water resistant if it wasnt for sony? probably not. Camera? thanks Nokia...
In other words while i love samsung, i deal with their devices allllllll day, over 70% of problem calls and replacement devices are samsungs. While they sell more they are no where near free of problems and just working.
42. elitewolverine (Posts: 1166; Member since: 28 Oct 2013)
cant edit for some reason. Also talk to me about just working, go look up 4.3 android update galaxy s3, and how it has pretty much ruined calling on the phone. No fix yet and this problem is now 3 months in....love telling people, call samsung talk to android its not a carrier problem good day.

Samsung fans are chanting over this article! haha. All hail the lord, Galaxy S5, with its superior 2800mAh battery!
