Galaxy S4 and Note 3 to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update late January, announces SFR

0. phoneArena 19 Dec 2013, 02:08 posted on

French carrier SFR braved the unwritten rule not to talk about Android update schedules, and came out with a statement that Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4 and Note 3 will be receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update at the end of January (for the S4), and the beginning of February (for the Note 3)....

The most popular and profitable Android smartphone and phablet should really be getting these updates much much faster than what we're used to seeing by now. This is poor prioritizing by Samsung; probably done intentionally with future sales in mind. If stuff like Sony, HTC, and Motorola phones can pull these firmware updates within a month or 2, so should Samsung.

good point, I got the moto X and it already has kitkat. Sammy could also use the Google-licious features

Samsung - not different from random Chinese brands in term of updates.

Other than moto with the moto X no one's got 4.4. Sony is like one of the slowest too so to put them on a list that's apparently faster than Samsung. Sony have not even got 4.3 out. All that said I agree 3 months is a long wait for updates but it has vastly improved compared to before where you could be waiting for like 6 months. Imo compared to other oems Samsung have been quite quick and support longer too. S2 ended on 4.1,s3 on 4.3 and getting 4.4. Now if you look at the competition of those phones for example the HTC sensation and one X, the support for those phones ended much earlier than Samsung flagships of the same time.

And I thought the international unlocked version of HTC One has already got KitKat update for a couple of weeks now. No, not the GPE version, the one with Sense. Yeah, you read it right, the one with Sense.

You can only blame VZW for that they are the worst carrier for software updates.

AT&T is the worst at updates, usually a year after the official release of any new OS will we finally see it on any of the previous devices. That mentioned, I wont see KK on my Note 3 until 2015 and I'll probably have the note 4 by then since I'm on Next.

Your wrong there bud you won't get KK in Jan but you'll have it by May and you'll get b4 Verizon Note 3 but after T-mo Note 3 and I won't mention Sprint.

I hope i am wrong but After being with this company from when they were Cingular, I only say this in comparison from past experiences with them on their Samsung flagship devices.

That's a long time! I was with Cingular/AT&T for 8yrs,
Verizon for 3, and T-Mobile since 4/29/13, and with snappy, blazing fast unlimited LTE, and sometime this
year T-Mobile will be deoloying 20x20 LTE, I am a very happy T-Mobile customer.

AT&T & Verizon are evil!!!
