Galaxy S4 Zoom 16 MP cameraphone tipped as Samsung's answer to Nokia EOS and Sony Honami
0. phoneArena 07 May 2013, 04:39 posted on
As the name implies, Samsung might be stuffing optical zoom capabilities in there, but the rest of the rumored specs are mid-range - a 4.3” qHD SAMOLED display, 8 GB of storage plus supported microSD card up to 64 GB, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and A-GPS. Android Jelly Bean will be running the show plus the inevitable TouchWiz Nature UX. Processor and RAM aren't disclosed yet...

This type of phones tend to be bulky for the camera lens right.

Samsung Galaxy Zoom huh... Let me predict what's coming next. One will be released every 2 weeks.
- Samsung Galaxy Zoom Active (waterproof/dustproof/rugged)
- Samsung Galaxy Zoom Mini
- Samsung Galaxy Aperture
- Samsung Galaxy Aperture Active
- Samsung Galaxy Aperture Mini
- Samsung Galaxy Macro
- Samsung Galaxy Macro Active
- Samsung Galaxy Macro Mini
- Samsung Galaxy ISO
- Samsung Galaxy ISO Active
- Samsung Galaxy ISO Mini
- Samsung Galaxy EV
- Samsung Galaxy EV Active
- Samsung Galaxy EV Mini
- Samsung Galaxy CMOS
- Samsung Galaxy CMOS Active
- Samsung Galaxy CMOS Mini
- Samsung Galaxy Boss Mode
- Samsung Galaxy God Mode
Guess what, probably none of the above could beat Nokia's 808/EOS and Sony Honami.

Awesome dude, that was Really funny xD
64. WHoyton1 (Posts: 1635; Member since: 21 Feb 2013)
And if this would be the case how is this bad? Samsung are giving more and more choice which is only good for consumers...
66. GJanee (Posts: 214; Member since: 29 Jun 2011)
if certain companies start to spam your e-mail address with almost the same offerings every week, do you still consider it as good for you as consumer, and would you still feel like having more choice?
69. WHoyton1 (Posts: 1635; Member since: 21 Feb 2013)
Since when did Samsung start spamming your email with new phones... Electronic products are a different thing from say your average supermarket... More choice means better range of phones... Better android... Stop dissing sammy
102. GJanee (Posts: 214; Member since: 29 Jun 2011)
great to see that you got the point of my example. nevermind. :)
79. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
hey dude.. do you ever think those phone will available in every country in this world??? NO!! samsung releasing different product for different country/market.. just like they always release the dual sim card galaxy family mostly in asia but not in europe or US.. you don't have to care what phone samsung will offer.. because it may not come to your country..
77. SleepingOz (unregistered)
What's funny is, like some users pointed out, the GSIII had almost no problem beating up the Lumia 920 in most cases.
78. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
we get it, your a samsung bumboy and if your not getting paid then your truly wasting your time
s3 beating up the 920 is how you put it well if suddenly these phones can beat each other up then the 920 will snap the s3 in half
as for which is best its all down to preference, what the person needs or wants etc so hush fanboy
80. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
hey dude.. so do you thing "real photographer" will prefer the unrealistic and oversaturated picture from your lumia 920?? sorry i have to say as an "amateur" photographer i still prefer the much realistic colour reproduction picture taken by the s3.. even though the lumia has sharper image than the s3 but the stupidy unrealistic , oversaturated and overly warm image doesn't suite me..
83. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
lmao you just proven you know nothing and even i who take pics for a hobby can set you straight
fiirst off this
''i still prefer the much realistic colour reproduction picture taken by the s3''
you do know the s3 has never been known for its natural colours, thats where nokia have always been better. the s3 adds loads of post processing saturatin the pictures sharpening them to make them look attractive to the eye to fool those who just see shiny colourful pics....i.e. you
you should take some classes in photography if your going to sit there and say the s3 produces natural colours...........unvelievable how blind your fanboys are cant admit the truth
i will set you straight-the s3 produces saturated pics with post processing like the iphones do to make them more visually appealing. nokia and even sony to an extend produce the more natural colours that some see as dull
didnt you once say you were leaving this site for good? why come back you werent missed
93. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
c'mon boy if you really want to know what natural colour means just take your decent dslr then take a picture.. after that take an s3 and lumia 920 capture the same picture.. you will see wich one has the closer colour reproduction to your dslr.. enough said dude cause i've done it before using my old canon 550d and my s3 and my friend's lm920.. yeah i know most of people still will be WOW by lumia's "exaggerating everything" camera.. but it far from what you called "natural".. lol shame on you.. :D
85. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Oh, here's the butthurt nokia fanboy.
LMAO! Every camera comparison between those two came to the same conclusion. Truth is a bitter pill to swallow. Deal with it! =]
86. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
really has it now samsung paid troll
even though thats bs lets entertain your crap
your saying the s3 beats the 920 in the camera department, even though its more then on par in daylight with it and better at low light......when its comes to video the s3 cant compete
let me guess the s3 also beats the 808 right?
87. SleepingOz (unregistered)
The only good thing about the L920 is OIS.
"your saying the s3 beats the 920 in the camera department, even though its more then on par in daylight with it"
Yeah, keep lying to yourself.
Otherwise the camera comparisons from GSMArena and PA are here, just in case you wanna wake up from your denial. =]
No one is talking about the 808 here. It's GSIII's 8mp camera against L920's 8mp. Fleeing by deviating from the main topic when not being able to cope, as usual! LMAO!
88. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
considering the main topic is possible samsung answers to upcoming nokia and sony devices and you praising your beloved s3...you went way off from the start bumboy
its so funny you get paid well ? you shouldnt for your crap im sure samsung can do better in there trolls.
and your not wanting to talk about the 808 as you would have to admit your s3 wouldnt stand a chance.
you must be one of those arrogant little pricks that talk crap and think they can talk down to people. i will wait for you to get your fanboy help i remember you need a good 3-4 others to help you and make you feel good
ohh and dont spend all your sammy money at once
89. SleepingOz (unregistered)
The topic I started with my comment, which was directed to EXkurogane, was about the only fair camera comparison between Nokia and Samsung; the GSIII and the Lumia 920 since both are 8MP 2012 flagships. And that's the main reason why the 808 is excluded from most SMARTphone comparison.
Haha AD HOMINEM, as usual! Spewing BS to deviate from the topic doesn't actually count as valid arguments. You must be really frustrated for not being able to bring a single valid argument, aren't you?
Try again! =]
Suits you well.. haha
76. akki20892 (Posts: 3901; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
i think sammy only answer in their dream........still can't beat nokia......there so many years ahead......!!!
96. deburocks (Posts: 126; Member since: 20 Apr 2013)
hahaha....first of all in camera department no m@@@f@@@r cheap chinese samd@@g stuff can beat nokia . If i have to buy a cam i would rather buy a canon or nikon. Why buy smthng stupid datsnot even a quality product. Lmfao. An idiot will buy such a dud.....even their next generation cant match nokia,s camera. Yup sony has that extra stuff to compete against nokia, but since last few years sony is going down vid camera. Hope to see a cybershot ......grow up samd@@g and stop fooling everyone with this cheap publicity , u cant beat nokia in phonecamra dept and nikon, canon in caera department
97. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
blah... blah.. blah.. makes me wanna puke kid... -_-!
2. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
4.3? qHD? Like a galaxy camera? Bulky?
Then im not excited
3. eisenbricher (Posts: 973; Member since: 09 Aug 2012)
Nokia is years ahead in camera tech. I'm sure that SS won't manage to pack sensor like pureview even in 400gm body.
12. tusshharish (Posts: 342; Member since: 23 Oct 2012)
samsung is nothing in imaging against nokia/..........
61. mafiaprinc3 (Posts: 528; Member since: 07 May 2012)
damn right about that, when it comes to imaging nokia is the KING!!!
4. GJanee (Posts: 214; Member since: 29 Jun 2011)
adding phone function to the galaxy camera and rebranding it as an S4 sibling. how original and innovative sammy...
srsly, the train with the 808 went away a long time ago, why would they still force such ridiculous ideas? both the eos and the 928 will still be smartphones that fit in the hand, not a canon 550d sized monster... definitely uncalled for.
8. Jason2k13 (Posts: 1214; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
you should become a new editor, you already know what the specs and the looks of the new galaxy S4 zoom.
25. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 3759; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
You ought to recieve a medal for blindness.
98% of the spec profile is listed up there...
And of course, you don't expect a phone to be 8mm slim with an optical zoom lens.
Galaxy S4 zoom...another addition to the ever expanding Galaxy series!
That's 5 S4 variants including this one...boy!
5. Reverence (Posts: 224; Member since: 16 Jul 2012)
808 blew galaxy camera! Im expecting EOS to do the same....galaxy cameras are big and hefty and when the price is the same as EOS i see no reason to get galaxy!
14. Jason2k13 (Posts: 1214; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
dont make it sound like 808 blew everything away from the galaxy camera that's just fanboy talk. The galaxy is better in some areas such as:
- stronger xenon flash
- bigger field of view
- better zooming
- better night/low light shots
- ability to record videos at 60fps and 120 fps slow motion vids.
- more camera features
- more apps
808 is good for a phone, but i wouldn't say its better in everything.
27. Jason2k13 (Posts: 1214; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
a joke because...? I made those up? or you just got nothing to say?
44. SIGPRO (Posts: 1435; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)
let me start which Galaxy phone has a Xenonm flash....yes none so please!
Oh wait you talk about the galaxy camera..........the 808 is a cameraphone and the galaxy is just a camera so what are you talking about?
Get you facts right.....NOOB!
45. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
your a joke because this is about camera quality and you list more apps as a point
plus the bigger field of view is grasping at straws. the only thing the galaxy camera had was the optical zoom but face it its a bad camera.
its a dedicated camera and was beaten by a phone. no one said the 808 is the best at everything but seeing as this is and agina i say it about camera's you cant try and talk down the leap ahead the 808 is.
the galaxy camera was a joke, samsung thought they could just shove android on it brag make it sub par quality and it would sell
58. SIGPRO (Posts: 1435; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)
Totally agree with you, but some fanboys just don't get the picture, they keep hiding in their cave!
6. Tsepz_GP (Posts: 987; Member since: 12 Apr 2012)
Exciting times ahead it seems, feels like we are back in 2009-end of 2010 with Nokia N8, SE Satio and Samsung Pixon 12.
7. FlushGordon (unregistered)
Their latest Galaxy camera is a huuuuuuge disappointment. I hope they get it right this time
11. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
A well balanced comment :)
It is better for us to wait than bash a company like shadez10 do lol
9. shadez10 (Posts: 427; Member since: 15 Jan 2012)
no room for you samsung...
with nokia and sony, samsung cant match them anyways...
81. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
oh really.. don't you know if the galaxy s family always have one of the best mobile phone camera out there even better than any sony xperia phone?? where you've been.. welcome to the world..
94. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
We cant stop d trend whch is hating samsung

32. xperiaDROID (banned) (Posts: 5629; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
How about a poop with a Samsung logo on it? Will you buy it? I know you will! -__-'
34. windroid (unregistered)
It'll be great to see you with your three hands dealing with so much crap.
54. eisenbricher (Posts: 973; Member since: 09 Aug 2012)
I wonder, how will you be able to distinguish between phones? All SS phones look exactly same to me :/
13. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
If this is a pure camera centerd phone, Samoled is not prfrble unless the samoled is already perfect.. Well gs4's Samoled has accurate color in movie mode if im not mistaken
24. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
even in movie mode IPS LCD still have more accurate colour than samoled
you can check displaymate comparison table if don't believe me.
38. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
i know that,, i will not argue abt color accuracy bet Samoled and LCD, LCD will win
15. MariaGabriela (Posts: 12; Member since: 30 Apr 2013)
samsung sucks at low light pictures so they will not do well in this area. Nokia and sony and HTC will always be the king in this area
17. Trex95 (Posts: 900; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
Still can't beat them. I bet that 808 PV still better than 16 MP Camera.
29. boosook (Posts: 1436; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
Samsung has become a little like Apple: too conservative. The S4 is just an S3 with updated specs and nothing new. Just like Apple is doing with the iPhone.
They're starting to understand now that the S4 is the least innovative of the new Android phones and is starting to feel the pressure from competitors like htc one or xperia Z, which at least tried to propose something original.
It remains to be seen if it's too late, because now they can't change their flagship for an year, so they'll be forced to make new models that will draw potential customers away from the htc one and xperia z (will we also see a water resistant model?), but those models will have to be necessarily mid-range (otherwise S4 users would be p****d off), so it is not guaranteed that they will succeed in contrasting competitors' flagships.
40. Jason2k13 (Posts: 1214; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
name me a phone with air view, hand gestures, eye scrolling, multi-view all packed in 1 phone?
is waterproof a new tech on the XZ?
is htc 4mp camera innovative even though its worst than gs4 or iphone 5 camera in terms of detail and quality?
and why would you call the S4 a bad phone, when it has better battery than the XZ and HTC? Battery life is probably the most important feature in a phone right now.
47. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
that myt be true for d design
but d design has magnfcnt achievements=packing larger screen and battery into a very compact and s3-like-size body
camera-s3 and s2 cameras are 2 of d best out der, and s4 took another level as some/most reviews said that s4 is d best android smartphone camera,,(808 is d best); weakness in lowlight but not much as far as u wont capture in an area w/ very very low light (flash is der), , .. to remove noise, downscale d photo using photoshop
features> many additional features but yahh some are half-baked, gimmicks but for me most of the features are useful, but we shudnt forget what features s4 has from s3 and note2
SuperAmoled> the new Samoled got different praises/good reviews for the large improvement, maybe it took a lot of work for samsung,, (well some/most units have problems)
d Octo-core myt not be perfect for now, but it is very capable
note: im a fan of samsung, but i cancld my gs4 preorder bcoz im afraid of d issues
65. WHoyton1 (Posts: 1635; Member since: 21 Feb 2013)
In terms of software Sammy is the best innovative company out there! Just because you have this blind hatred don't stray from the facts. Sammy just needs better design then they have everything and will destroy any iPhone out there just like they already do...
30. pyradark (Posts: 855; Member since: 10 Jun 2012)
Too bad, optical zoom is not gonna help to produced great quality like 808. Honami is the first step with bigger sensor, hopefully they dont mess with software. Hmmm to nokia, i dont know where to believe about the 920 image quality!!!
48. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
thats right with some accessory you can have optical zoom just like this one.
and until this day i think only Sony can compete with Nokia when it comes to camera,
because Sony make one of the best camera sensor in the world, sony have G Lens high quality lens just like Carl Zeiss, and they also have one of the best image processor.
so the only question is are Sony really serious with Honami or not??? and i just hope Sony will fix the camera software on Xperia Z soon!!! so we can see the real power of Exmor RS sensor
53. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 765; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
Sony should b serious w/ d honami coz dat myt replace my 808.. or even my future main smartphone ;)
60. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
don't worry if sony not serious again we still have many other option.
