Froyo updates for the DROID line out and about
We are surely waiting with bated breath to check the practical performance of Android 2.2 on some of the best Android handsets out there that is the Verizon DROID line. Apparently things are shaping up quickly, since a tipster has already sent over a picture of his DROID X running Froyo received as OTA update. The HTC Droid Incredible, and the first Motorola DROID have also been caught in the act with 2.2 ROMs.

The newest rumor is that the official updates from HTC and Motorola will start hitting this retail trinity next week to complete the Froyo rollout by mid-August. Those users, who have already installed custom 2.2 ROMs, based on the stock OTA update, are reporting normal behavior.

Here's to speed and Adobe Flash 10.1, DROID gang!

That's what it looks like... I kinda doubt they will release 2.2 for the Droid before the Droid 2 comes out but that's just my opinion.

Look a little closer at the article and you'll see that it says that "The HTC Droid Incredible, and the first Motorola DROID have also been caught in the act with 2.2 ROMs". The rumor is that they'll all start receiving updates starting the 6th.

I would too, but i've heard a bunch of people BRICKED their phones doing a custom rom.. I was half tempted to do it to my DROID before i sold it and got the X, but with the X i dont even dare.

It was a little hard to do it for the Incredible, but Unrevoked made it really easy to do... I rooted last night, It took about 20 minutes to do just because I was watching tutorials and making sure I didnt screw it up, and I got stuck because HTC Sync cant be installed on Windows if you want to ROOT successfully. Other than the total amount time invested, the "actual" ROOT time only took like 60 seconds. Now I have WiFi tether CPU overclock, and FINALLY a Flash Light for the Droid incredible! If anyone has any quesions about how to ROOT Droid Incredible, Id be happy to help, just let me know and Ill give you my email! Droid FTW

Where did you hear about people bricking their phone? I've done extensive research on rooting the phones and my Moto Droid was rooted from the time I got it until I got my X and i've heard of people bricking their phones maybe once or twice...

My buddy has a job in tech support and gets one or two calls a day about people not getting past the droid eye when they did it... and no warrenty cause its not a official update. so imagin if 2 out of 30 calls per tech rep( on average ) a day are people that bricked their phone.. Then you got to think how many people are actually not calling in cause theyre smart enough not to say they did it by rooting it.

forgive spelling " *warranty, *imagine, *they're.."

it wasn't the rooting that caused the droid eye (bricking), it was the idiots who removed unecessary bloatware, even though it's required for the droid x to start up properly. i had my original droid rooted, i put many many roms and never once had it bricked. i owned it from november 9th to july 15th. you should root. it's not hard...mines rooted now. :-)
