Froyo officially a NoNo for Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro
0. phoneArena posted on 06 Jan 2011, 08:18
Sony Ericsson has just confirmed that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro will be receiving no further Android updates after the 2.1 Eclair build; this means that owners of those phones that want Adobe Flash on the browser will need to look elsewhere...

I own a HTC Magic with Android 2.1 and I can tell you that the feature I miss in Froyo is nothing regarding Flash, but the app2sd.

This is all well and good expect that Sony Ericsson or AT&T have dropped the ball with updates in the United States. It has been over two months since Sony Ericsson released the 2.1 update for the X10 line and the only country still waiting to receive the update is the USA. I find it completely pointless that Sony Ericsson can not release 2.1 in the USA because AT&T fears it will mess with iPhone sales. The X10 could be a great phone state side if AT&T would stop being big brother and let American's make up there own minds. I own an X10a which is branded with AT&T and I can not update and honestly I like the Sony Ericsson Arc but if it comes out AT&T branded I will not buy it cause it will receive and support from Sony Ericsson.

And that's why I like the Apple model for handing updates over Google's. It becomes the manufacturer or even worse, the carrier's responsibility to update the phone. And while the designer of the OS would be focused on experience of the end user throughout the next two years, the manufacturer only care about selling as many phones as possible.
My only disagreement is you blaming AT&T. Of course the carrier has the right to refuse any update of software, but I think it's Sony Ericsson you should be blaming. I don't see any good reason AT&T would shoot down an update especially since they'd have nothing to do with the redesign.
But I think people should be weary of Android phones for the reason alone. You just might not get that update you're looking forward to depending on who does the updating. If anything, I'd get a Google branded phone if I could. At least Apple supports updates on their phones for two years (if not more).

I'm with you questlove!!!! but thumbs down because you don't know about the business to know that why would you keep updating phones when the point is for someone to come back and upgrade and buy out another phone. Thats the real world, carriers that have more than half of the people on this site as their puppets. so questlove DANCE PUPPET!!!! DANCE!!!!

I would like to think that its not AT&T and it would be Sony Ericsson not sending the update through, but it is AT&T. I myself own a Dell Streak. The rest of the world has received the Froyo on their Dell Streak's. In a message from Dell it stated that they have to follow what their carriers want to do with updates. And the carriers can decide when and if an update is released. They pushed back Froyo for the Streak till January 12th. And that's not even a set date.

This is disgusting. Practically every other high end phone that was released around the time the X10 was has received Froyo already. I like the look of the Arc, but will not be buying it simple because I can't trust Sony Ericsson to release updates for it.
Next handset for sure will be a google device, timely updates, no tinkering (mediascape and timescape POS!), replaced these apps with default apps (hacked phone).
Shame on your Sony Ericsson. Key to market share is don't screw over your customers!

I do agree with you.
Sony Ericsson ! Better drop idea of making Arc. Looking to your history, it is going to be a super flop.

Sony Ericsson does have a creativity to make a fool of its customers. First of all after so many delays and longer time No official support for 2.2 Froyo for Xperia X10...
Ok we get it Sony .. its because of Hardware limitations.. Fine !!!
But what about Xperia Arc ???
It is Multi-Touch screen but still your
web specification says Pan & Zoom instead of Pinch & Zoom.
Enough I'm Going for HTC because in India Desire HD & Desire Z, HTC 7 HD & Mozart have officially launched.
Good Bye Sony.

So is there any word if the X10 will be getting the 2.1 stateside? Seriously leaning twords returning this damn thing. Thank god I'm still within my 30 days.

Return it. Get Samsung Captivate. it is very doubtful that AT&T will ever allow the X10 to get update in the USA and you can't root the AT&T X10 with losing 3G and Internet abilities.

How is it AT&T's fault that Sony Ericsson doesn't want to update the phone?
14. ribbonsalmark posted on 06 Jan 2011, 16:39 1 0
SE wants to release the update. It has been released globally and accepted by all carriers other than AT&T. USA only country in which X10 running on AT&T can not get upgrade.

Why did this phone even bother to come out? When it was first leaked it was one of the most advanced phone you could find. Then it looked like it would never see the light of day and other phone makers came out with phones whose specs blew this one away and when this one came out it was already behind the curve and it's like after it came out Sony Ericsson say screw it and when on to make the PSPhone.
I feel bad for anyone that pays for this phone as it's such a nice phone and really it is, but it just gets no love from it's makers.

This could have been a great phone, but after waiting for updates, and now finding out there will never be a 2.2 update this is the worst phone i have ever owned. I have put a custom rom on the phone to hold myself over, but all the custom roms have there own problems, and the lame camara app that has no auto flash is still not fixed even with official updates from other countries. No pinch to zoom and no help from sony/at&t, I wish I could get rid of this phone and grab a captivate but it is beyond my 30 days. I will never purchase another sony ericson phone again. ughh

This proves that Sony Ericsson isn't treating their flagship model like one. Really dissapointing to see this happening to their X10, even thougth their users are still so confident and believe their precious X10s will get it soon.

This is a rip off! I bought my x10 cuz i thought i will be able to constanl upgrade the OS just like other (even cheaper)Android phones. Not being able to upgrade is a serious defect that robs users of one of the ultimate functions of an Android phone. Fix it, or this will be my last SE phone. And im sure the same goes for everyone else.
Did anyone alert SE about this?
