Motorola believes that you wood would be more apt to purchase the Motorola Moto X if you were given a free wood back. So, from now until August 21st, those customizing a Moto X using the Moto Maker website will be able to order the wood back, without having to pay extra for it. Once the deal expires, you will have to shell out $25 to turn your Moto X into Pinocchio's relative...

Too little too late Motorola. They should've had this available from the start or close to it.
Why bother now when the next one is on its way?

Oh look, Mxyzptlk is once again back in a Motorola article with nothing by trash to say... no shocker here...

Motorola took forever to get the wood backs out and charged a premium for them. by the time they released the wood backs people either already had the X or moved on to other devices.

How long is it taking Apple to give its users Widgets, multitasking, NFC, notification lights, or screens larger than the current 4" display? Wood back panels have been out for a very long time my friend. They are simply using a promotion like this to drive sales to clear out inventory to ready for new products. All companies do the same thing.

Widgets are overrated since they can become resource hogs, I don't care about multitasking, and NFC is a gimmick.
You may have a point with the last two but not everyone wants a mega sized phone. Don't be ignorant.
A promotion for a year old phone with wooden backs and midrange specs when there's a newer one coming out very soon

the reason why they bother is to deplete inventory. the moto x is still a great phone. i have a new being delivered today.

I agree, its still a great phone. And given the awesome 4.7 :D, I wish they release a better version of 4.7 moto x with new internals :D

Uhh well they aren't going for 4.7" this time. It seems like 5 to 5.2" but I would love it if they make a 4.7" G+1...

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

"Because it's the same animal as the groundhog, would it not be better to ask 'How much ground could a groundhog hog is a groundhog could hog ground'."

As someone who has a Moto X with a wood back, I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about buying one to get one. I love my Moto x and I love the wood back. I think it is the best designed phone on the market and I prefer it over phones with glass or metal, which I have also had in the past. Wood just looks and feels like the best material for a phone.

I would wait for another deal where you can get the 16GB for $300 and the 32GB for $325...
