Fox News reporter: A7 processor for the Apple iPhone 5S is 31% faster than the A6 chip

0. phoneArena 25 Aug 2013, 21:50 posted on

A Fox News reporter named Clayton Morris claims that inside sources told him that the Apple iPhone 5S will be powered by an Apple designed A7 SoC that is 31% faster than the current A6 chip used on the Apple iPhone 5; the actual benchmarking test used was unknown and also not revealed was whether the 31% increase relates to the CPU or GPU since both are included on the SoC...

Fox News is a political talking point arm for the Conservative branch; not a technological expert or a reliable source of insider news when it comes to technology.

MSNBC would say that the chip is only 31% faster because of George W. Bush.

Only 31%? The S4 has over double the gpu and gpu power of the S3. Same for HTC One vs HTC One X.

As someone who owns an S3 (I9300) and whoose GF owns an S4 (I9500) - I disagree. It's more like 30% faster.

Of course the comparison is a bit hard since I'm running LS 2.9 4.2.2 while she is running stock TW 4.2.2

In benchmarks its got over double the cpu/gpu power. In real life perfomance its not much of a difference.

Your comparing a 1.5ghz dual core with adreno 225 to a 1.9ghz quad core snapdragon 600 with adreno 320. The difference in power hungry applications and games is night and day.

Man I am not sure why people believe this benchmark crap, if it runs everything you need, and does not stutter then its fine, numbers mean crap when the software doesnt help, and yes I am blaming samsung because their software became like the old HTC, bloated. Touchwiz became one of the most convoluted for the average user, having menus within menus and not organized did not help the cause. Ok enough ranting, is just looking at someone post benchmark numbers when it does not add to the user experience when smooth is already smooth. I am not saying that I prefer one OS over another, I have used every platform, and all of them are pretty good, and yes I have used the flagship of every platform, and Android, IOS and WP8 are in the right direction and by android I mean the Moto X which proved that hardware does not mean much when giving you the best experience.

Moto x is crippled by its CPU, everything else is fine. It will be more noticeable as android further developes and games start actually using the power of say a snapdragon 800. Or if you want to encode videos or cpu heavy task like that have fun on a moto x, I wish you luck on a moto x.

A dual core amd/Intel is enough to run windows smoothly but there are hundreds of thousands of 100% valid reasons to get something better than the minimum to run the OS smooth.

Hardware is king, no matter how optimized your operating system is there is always room for improvement somewhere. Always.

Can you show all of us where the Moto X ran poorly due to its CPU? All the tests I have seen show it out performing the HTC ONE and the GS4. Please feel free to back up your statement with facts.

And as I said - on a daily basis - the difference is minimal.

haha, don't lie dawg. But it is possible that Samsung made a special limited edition lag-free version just for you!

" I'm still frustrated with the slight lag that the Galaxy S 4 exhibits from time to time. I shouldn't be seeing that on a device with a quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU"

"I was really surprised to notice some now-and-again performance hiccups while using the S4. The settings menu consistently has issues loading, hitting the home button sometimes generates visible UI choppiness, and the lockscreen gesture takes far too long to actually unlock the phone"
- Android police

Maybe the Galaxy S5 will benefit from a 310% speed increase. Maybe....

Its funny how hard you try not to care! Its a fact iPhone is better than anything else in the market. The S4 is S-hit. HTC One, Xperia Z, if u want android, they are quality products. Nokia if you want windows. Samsung is just good at marketing and pushing out more and more products. The only good phone samsung made in recent history is the Wave I. I'd never buy samsung coz i dont want run of the mill products that look the same and are available at every price point from $50 to $800.

Oh so it's a FACT? Please explain in what measurable way the iPhone is better than, say, the HTC One? Build quality, materials, battery life, specs, camera, price, display? And I'd never buy an iPhone because I'm not a girl, don't have small hands, don't wear tight jeans...

I was serious man, when I had the original iPhone and the 3G, it would sit horizontally in my pocket taking more space than the EVO3D with a Casemate Tough case. And now every iPhone i hold fells like, you know, when an iphone user holds a feature phone with 1" screen and he remember fondly and wonders how he managed.
The only valid reason to own an iPhone is if you are heavily invested in the whole Apple ecosystem. If I missed something please remind me.

First of all, answers to your questions- On par, Yes, On par, dont matter as they run different OS, Yes, On par, Yes. This is as compared to last years model BTW. Besides iOS is much more mature and secure with better quality apps, gets update support longer.
Secondly, if you need a big phone to feel like a man, you've got some serious masculinity issues and insecurities. Besides, I still have a Nokia E90 lying around so that makes me a bigger man than you, right?

It has nothing to do with me feeling as a man, my second phone is a Nokia 101. It has to do with screen size. Ffs ios was the biggest (not sure if still is) gaming platform, and it had a freakishly small 3.5" display. And when I compare the gaming experience on an iPhone 5 with a 4.7"+ android device it's just sad. And it's not just gaming, how about browsing, reading, watching videos... and please don't mention the one handed operation as I can use my Gnexus with no problems.

As for the comparison, the build and materials are on par, but the talk time is 13h on the One vs. 8h on the 5(browsing ang gaming times being the same). The camera on the 5 is better in daylight, but the One has more features and is more capable in the dark, so on par. In the EU the 5 is ~150$ more expensive than the One. The Ones display has more ppi, resolution(can watch 720/1080), and these are the facts and not biased opinions. There are the dual speakers to mention, along with overall sound quality and equalizer settings. The design and the OS are user preferences, I like android better. As for the longer support, I had bad bad experience with both Apple and HTC. I had to jailbreak my 3G just to put folders on it. Apple gives faster updates but the older devices get butchered version with missing features.

Can you take your "I'm an Apple fan boy, and I own an iPhone" hat off long enough to post said "facts" that the iPhone is better than anything else?

Is it the fact that other devices sport better cameras, higher resolution HD screens, expandable memory, longer battery life, the ability to use voice and data on all networks instead of just a select few, true multitasking, and the ability to customize the device's aesthetics that make the iPhone a better device? If so, sign me up for 100 of them!

Sorry to break your bubble but I use a Nokia N9 as my primary phone, and Xperia S as secondary which recently replaced my iPhone 4. I also have a cheap android tablet i got as a gift and i use blackberry for bbm too. If im a fanboy, im a fanboy of Meego, the best mobile OS iv used so far. As far as better cameras are concerned, i think only Nokia makes a better camera solution than iPhone. HTC and Sony are also stepping up. It might be just me but I still dont know why on earth wud i need a FHD resolution android phone when not enough apps are compatible with it ATM. Not to say im against it, I like to have that option, but it has to make sense. I dont use my phone to watch FHD movies. As far as better battery life is concerned, wen iP5 came out, it was among the best if not the best. That was last year. "True" multitasking might be missing (which meego does the best IMO) as does bluetooth file transfer, but the overall trouble-free and streamlined experience you get with the iPhone, you dont get with any other device (of the ones iv used so far, I buy atleast one phone in 2 months, havent used the ONE yet though, the best android phone IMO). But for all the shortcomings, you have jailbreak. So IMHO, and this coming from a Nokia and Sony fan, iPhone is the best device iv used so far.

Everyone is entitled to have a opinion, my only gripe with your comment was calling the iphone the best smartphone around without providing evidence. That and calling Samsung "s**t" seemed a bit fanboyish. My experience with the iPhone was terrible, and I know that by the time I got the phones they were two generations behind. Smooth operation, no, crushing and freezing, check, apps compatibility with older hardware, non existent. Having a Gnex(a two year old phone, almost) it has some problems too, mainly the launcher crashing, but it doesn't lag and it doesn't freeze. The whole experience is a positive one. Different people have different requirements and preferences, if the iPhone fits those for you I agree with the statement that it's a fact the iPhone is the best smartphone around.

Don't even try to talk about Shamesung speed tests. It is known that they are shamelesly cheating n those tests. Engineers has found a code inside S3 and S4 where they clock speed for higher results if they notice any tester program.
