Apple board refuses to pay dividents to shareholders even when they don't know what to do with the cash. They want to hang on to the cash because who controls it will have great power and you can be sure that they will not exercise that power in a good way but in a way that enrich themselves.

The power struggle at Apple is getting fierce and it's time to sell Apple's shares.

How stupid and arrogant can a company get? Forstall was like Steve Jobs and responsible for the success of iOS! How could they let Ive take over just like that because of some stupid posh looking hardware designs he made?

It actually shows the trend of a company! Apple is a superficial company with superficial people giving importance to superficial crap! It was iOS that was responsible for the succes of the iPhone not the hardware. Hardware design accounted later for the looks only. You can build a phone out of platinum with a crap os and it'' never sell!

what a dumb move by Apple and Cook? Way to mess up! I mean who lets a guy who designs shapes of a phone take over the software and operating system aspects?

Don't underestimate Jony. Apple's recent problems have been with software design, which was Forestall's area. They still consistently churn out fantastic pieces of hardware. From what it sounds like, Forestall was part of the problem. Mayben now Apple can finally produce an at least half-interesting piece of software because, let's face it, it really hasn't changed over the years.

(Also, to address your bit about letting the guy who designs the shapes of the phones take over:having consistent design throughout the platform is key to Apple's success. Ive and Forestall were often at loggerheads about design, which caused several rifts between hardware and software design. Now that Ive is in control maybe software and hardware design will finally sync.)

No actually Apple is on the way up this will free up a more creative mind to design their software and not someone who's really tied into Steve Jobs ideas. Johnny Ive is the person who starting to push the envelope with Apple bees the person who engineered a larger screen for Apple Scott Forstall isn't that person so now that he's out and Johnny's in you'll start to see more design changes in Apple software

He stole all his great designs from Braun and he's stuck in a major rut with fear of leaving the comfort zone in design. I don't expect to see anything revolutionary coming out of Apple until all the top dogs are replaced.

Ive = slow incremental changes, nothing exciting, just more of the same.

Now that he is in control of both software and hardware he can make drastic changes. Before that his department had to consider what the other departments are coming up with and they had to agree on something (vice versa).

This is purely speculation in my end but I think the next iteration of the iPhone (under Ives) will bring major changes.

Don't be so sure that a complete redesign is a good thing. iOS works extremely well. It just needs to be a bit more... lively. And I don't think it would hurt to take a few cues from Google and do software buttons.

I'll kind of miss it if certain apps begin to take too dramatice a shift towards modernistic design. The real life feel of iOS is actually sort of comforting. I like that game center looks like a pool table and the note program looks like a note pad.

I'm worried that giving Ive so much to do will hurt more than it helps. He has a fantastic sense for hardware design, but I'd be worried if dividing his attention makes both portions of his job suffer. I'd also be worried if the man understand little about software :/.

Steve Jobs was a perfectionist, he'd have never allowed the public any sort of access to apple maps before it was flawless, he'd have used that 1 year they had left with google maps instead of releasing apple maps this early. Heck, He wouldn't have even released Siri in the iPhone 4S (Siri reached a certain level of perfection in the iPhone 5 with the extra mic for cancellation and an even wider feature range). Seeing this news I'm excited cause iPhone software has been stale lately, I'd love to see an overhaul in the design. I really hope Jony Ive is as good designing software as he does hardware.

I'm sorry, but when the iPhone 4 was released, there was nothing to compete with it really. It's screen got the same reaction 1080p screens are getting right now. It had a pretty decent camera and great performance. That was at a time when Gingerbread was the best way to experience android, hooray, and where pixel densities only reached the mid 200s at most. The iPhone 4S was when Apple hardware fell behind.
