Forstall ousted for refusing to sign Apple Maps apology, Jony Ive takes over all Apple design: what does this mean for Apple?

Apple might just have stolen the spotlight from Google’s humongous Nexus unveiling, and the Windows Phone 8 launch by announcing... iOS head Scott Forstall…

Apple board refuses to pay dividents to shareholders even when they don't know what to do with the cash. They want to hang on to the cash because who controls it will have great power and you can be sure that they will not exercise that power in a good way but in a way that enrich themselves.
The power struggle at Apple is getting fierce and it's time to sell Apple's shares.

Steadily dropping, which is probably why they hold onto the money. Apple hasn't forgotten what it's like to be on the brink of bankruptcy, gotta hold that nest egg tightly.

Apple is done!
How stupid and arrogant can a company get? Forstall was like Steve Jobs and responsible for the success of iOS! How could they let Ive take over just like that because of some stupid posh looking hardware designs he made?
It actually shows the trend of a company! Apple is a superficial company with superficial people giving importance to superficial crap! It was iOS that was responsible for the succes of the iPhone not the hardware. Hardware design accounted later for the looks only. You can build a phone out of platinum with a crap os and it'' never sell!
what a dumb move by Apple and Cook? Way to mess up! I mean who lets a guy who designs shapes of a phone take over the software and operating system aspects?
Apple is Done! Proud arrogant narcissistic bunch of morons have shown their true colors!

Don't underestimate Jony. Apple's recent problems have been with software design, which was Forestall's area. They still consistently churn out fantastic pieces of hardware. From what it sounds like, Forestall was part of the problem. Mayben now Apple can finally produce an at least half-interesting piece of software because, let's face it, it really hasn't changed over the years.
(Also, to address your bit about letting the guy who designs the shapes of the phones take over:having consistent design throughout the platform is key to Apple's success. Ive and Forestall were often at loggerheads about design, which caused several rifts between hardware and software design. Now that Ive is in control maybe software and hardware design will finally sync.)

Google is a capitalistic for profit company just like apple. U just like google, and dislike apple so u turn a blind eye to google.
41. MeoCao (unregistered)
This is not about capitalistic nature of the companies but about the character of people who run them.
Google is great b-c the founders believe there a chance for generosity in business vs strict money grabing mentality of Apple, MS and others.
Don't be evil is the company's motto and they live up to it.
52. ardent1 (Posts: 2000; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
Didn't Google get fined by the FTC for "violating" privacy concerns? Isn't Google getting investigated for use FRAND patents as a weapon in patent disputes?
"Don't be evil" is simply bullspit!!!
53. darkkjedii (Posts: 14382; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Exactly. Well said, all these companies do the same crap. Google pays Microsoft as we speak for infringement
73. remixfa (Posts: 14253; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
being investigated and being found guilty are not the same thing. you think mr " ithink iknow everything" would know that. I guess you dont.
71. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6961; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
CAPTIALISTIC U SAY? May i remind u that it was APPLE WHO STARTED this whole patent war. they BAN HTC earlier this year for a few weeks and their stock plummented. THEY PAY a greedy ijudge and the jurors to FIND Samsung guilty without even giving them a chance to defend themselves. and APPLE IS CONTROLLING THE ITC/Patent offices and tries to SUE OR BAN anyone who thinks they copied Apple. it's suppose to be bout COMPETITION NOT CAPITALISTIC
48. PhenomFaz (Posts: 1128; Member since: 26 Sep 2012)
by the way darkjedi is nothin but a troll so best to ignore him. he usually ends up gettin himself banned anyway :)
Moreover he has nothing of value to add just personal biased opinion or simply hating on other people's comments...he never posts anything of his own opinion probably cause he doesn't have a mind of his own :)
Anyways best to ignore him

The company needs that cash to pay their expensive lawyers.
15. dickwyn (Posts: 602; Member since: 07 May 2012)
sack a person just for these small problems
22. darkkjedii (Posts: 14382; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
No actually Apple is on the way up this will free up a more creative mind to design their software and not someone who's really tied into Steve Jobs ideas. Johnny Ive is the person who starting to push the envelope with Apple bees the person who engineered a larger screen for Apple Scott Forstall isn't that person so now that he's out and Johnny's in you'll start to see more design changes in Apple software
27. cepcamba (Posts: 717; Member since: 27 Feb 2012)
Actually, I'm thinking Apple might get better under Ive. The guy is good at design and simplicity (which majority of apple users prefer). His minimalistic design approach is a potent weapon.
30. pongkie (Posts: 508; Member since: 20 Aug 2011)
I dunno about Ive becuase the "antennagate" was under his watch which apple never appoligized for. He didn't got sacked because of it.
32. darkkjedii (Posts: 14382; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Yeah but he did fix it though. The 4S and 5 don't have those issues at all.
31. Aeires (unregistered)
He stole all his great designs from Braun and he's stuck in a major rut with fear of leaving the comfort zone in design. I don't expect to see anything revolutionary coming out of Apple until all the top dogs are replaced.
Ive = slow incremental changes, nothing exciting, just more of the same.
72. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6961; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
u forgot to mention they stolen sony's concept too
74. cepcamba (Posts: 717; Member since: 27 Feb 2012)
No you don't get it.
Now that he is in control of both software and hardware he can make drastic changes. Before that his department had to consider what the other departments are coming up with and they had to agree on something (vice versa).
This is purely speculation in my end but I think the next iteration of the iPhone (under Ives) will bring major changes.
82. Aeires (unregistered)
And suddenly Ive is a software expert, who knew?
83. cepcamba (Posts: 717; Member since: 27 Feb 2012)
Not a software expert but what I'm saying is overall progress can now go in one direction.
68. downphoenix (Posts: 2621; Member since: 19 Jun 2010)
I dunno. I think this removal of Forstall is a necessity to keep on track.
But if Im wrong, shouldnt you android fanboys be happy about this news?
77. rf1975 (Posts: 251; Member since: 01 Aug 2011)
Losing Forstall is not a goog sign for Apple, but in my opinion he should have sign the apology.
2. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
will we see an overhaul design of iOS for its next iteration? Hope so.
3. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
if it does, ill consider iOS by 50%. iTunes syncing still sucks.
11. Luuthian (Posts: 222; Member since: 09 Sep 2011)
Don't be so sure that a complete redesign is a good thing. iOS works extremely well. It just needs to be a bit more... lively. And I don't think it would hurt to take a few cues from Google and do software buttons.
I'll kind of miss it if certain apps begin to take too dramatice a shift towards modernistic design. The real life feel of iOS is actually sort of comforting. I like that game center looks like a pool table and the note program looks like a note pad.
I'm worried that giving Ive so much to do will hurt more than it helps. He has a fantastic sense for hardware design, but I'd be worried if dividing his attention makes both portions of his job suffer. I'd also be worried if the man understand little about software :/.

Samsung is going to be looking to hirer this guy.
5. tedkord (Posts: 6417; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Forstall sounds like an arrogant prick. No wonder he got along so well with Jobs. Jobs would never have apologized for the mess that is Apple Maps, either. He would have blamed the user, and claimed that all other phones have the same problems.
14. OHaZZaR (Posts: 131; Member since: 19 Aug 2011)
Steve Jobs was a perfectionist, he'd have never allowed the public any sort of access to apple maps before it was flawless, he'd have used that 1 year they had left with google maps instead of releasing apple maps this early. Heck, He wouldn't have even released Siri in the iPhone 4S (Siri reached a certain level of perfection in the iPhone 5 with the extra mic for cancellation and an even wider feature range). Seeing this news I'm excited cause iPhone software has been stale lately, I'd love to see an overhaul in the design. I really hope Jony Ive is as good designing software as he does hardware.
25. someones4 (Posts: 622; Member since: 16 Sep 2012)
steve did release the iphone 4 despite its imperfection.
44. OHaZZaR (Posts: 131; Member since: 19 Aug 2011)
I'm sorry, but when the iPhone 4 was released, there was nothing to compete with it really. It's screen got the same reaction 1080p screens are getting right now. It had a pretty decent camera and great performance. That was at a time when Gingerbread was the best way to experience android, hooray, and where pixel densities only reached the mid 200s at most. The iPhone 4S was when Apple hardware fell behind.
81. someones4 (Posts: 622; Member since: 16 Sep 2012)
All valid points. But did everyone just forget about antennagate? all the features don't matter if it can execute its basic function.
16. dickwyn (Posts: 602; Member since: 07 May 2012)
yeah if jobs was here he would have made it a bit more perfect before releasing it to the general public
19. TheRetroReplay (Posts: 250; Member since: 20 Mar 2012)
This is exactly what I was going to say
6. Izzy_V (Posts: 216; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
From the looks of that pic, cook doesn't need a costume for Halloween. His nepotism surely has taken over and we're seeing its effects in play.
8. Stoli89 (Posts: 333; Member since: 28 Jun 2010)
With Jonny Ivy's new powers, let's hope he had nothing to do with the late Steve Job's recently christened yacht's design!

The Galactic Empire of the tech world just Force Gripped Admiral Tarkin.
Now, only Darth "Ive" Vader and Darth "Tim" Sidious (the Emperor) remain.
55. darkkjedii (Posts: 14382; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
That was a good one. So I'm guessing google is the rebellion?
